What's Good Come out of USA Tariff

Is that wishful thinking? I'm thinking/ hoping that with Trump's threatening new Tariff System, we can expect drop in prices of certain goods from home?

Examples are Lobster, Wagyu Beef, Angus Beef, Lamb on the Rack, Ugg Boots, whisky? These have been out of reach for me but maybe I can look forward to a good feasting shopping? >_<

Your thoughts please.

So Trump Brough in 104% on all goods from China.

America is about to pay double for almost everything.

$100 dollar item will now cost $204

Washing machines can cost anywhere from about $500 to $1,400 or more.. ADD 104% tariff on top and they will get it

All US made, keep trying to defend huge Multinational companies

        • And you don't think they'll up their prices if there is no more competition from overseas? They wouldn't have the capacity the service the market.

          • @Make it so: Let the market Decide then.

Meanwhile we cannot even make Glass in this country and we have 30 day Fuel reserves.

        • that must have took you a while to come up with a shortlist, and you think they are 100% manufactured in US?

@V2L: Chat GPT, you should try it. What does it matter? People cannot buy a house to put it in?

        • And Vietnam, Thailand and Turkey are other major centres of appliance manufacturing.

        • All US made? Really?

      • They won't be able to afford their precious red hats anymore.

        • or anything else Trump/ mega.

      • soon. They are still cheering but not for long.

now he is promising them removal of income tax.

    • Will it be 208% tomorrow?
China Hits Back at Trump’s 104% Tariff Threat

Interesting to see how many companies go bankruptcy because of one man. Scary.

  • Just heard on the radio that Australian Almonds are in demand as the US produces 80% of the worlds Almonds and Australia around 10%. Great for Almond growers but i'd imagine the local prices will go up if overseas demand increases : (

Good for local jobs and economy though. Glass half full maybe.

Time to plant almond trees and raise chickens under them.

      • Takes 3 to 5 years before you get almonds.

    • Waste of billions of litres of water, just so hipsters can have shit bastardized faux latte

  • So, I need to buy airconditioners… do I wait, or scramble for a bargain now before the knock on effects hit?

Subjects such as Economics or Chemistry were taught so poorly and not contextualised/seemed irrelevant when I was in school. I'm happy to have a healthy general interest in new topics as I get older.

  • My first thought was that if China would sell less goods to the US then wouldn't this drive the prices down everywhere else? Wouldn't this be even more the case in Australia due to geography and our existing relations?

    • +1

Logically that's what should happen, surplus goods on the market… supply and demand. Less demand and more supply leads to lower prices.

Dunno if that's what will really happen, but in a "free market" it would.

  • Yes there will be benefits. The tariffs are only an opening salvo anyway things will calm down once everyone comes to the table to negotiate.

    • Nice parrot you got going there, DJTling

The only good is that American's will finally get a taste of what the rest of world has had to put up with in terms of pricing like forever. Of course the endgame will be companies offsetting part of the tariffs in the form of higher prices worldwide to subsidise the US impact. Lose Lose.

China stuff becomes cheaper to sell in Australia to recoup costs

    • Would that include Sharks fin, birdnest, ginseng and BYD?

  • Overall bad for Australian economy -> bad for everyone living in Australia.
US took the position take can take and the global economic dynamics are changing accordingly. That is all.

    • Thats a Lose-Lose situation.

What's Good Come out of USA Tariff

Trump & his cronies just got richer.
    You just got poorer.

    • No sorry, that's not good for me…

  • Bitcoin to moon. Gold to moon.

  • Wow, you guys are remarkable! Not just a prettyface!

Perhaps Oz should sue Trump for breaching the Free Trade Agreement? That'd be good. :-))

The best thing about the tariffs is finally more Aussies are waking up to the fact America has been bleeding us dry for decades and is ramping it up, so hopefully more well earned disrespect hate pouring back there way where it belongs.Trump has been the cold bucket of water we needed to finally realise the billions we have wasted donating to the Israel / US war machine and weapons industry. The current Gaza genocide will justify them both updating to extreme no holds barred extermination devices.Hence them wanting to flog us last centuries redundant fully manned nuclear coffins.Win win. We get the flogged out wrecks, get to bury the forever waste, and attract missiles and other weaponry in our direction via the AUKUS target on out foreheads. A non-returnable $ 800M gifted to the USA so they can continue to humiliate us on the world stage. Our leaders are not even allowed to utter the words Gaza any more. There goes our credibility and humanity, right there.

    • Where and how has Australia been bled dry by America ?

      • Mining, gas, resources, military bases,weapons/arms/fighter jets/invisible glow in the dark rusty submarines, country sized cattle stations, and all the water all those industries require .Oh and cafes>

        Sook

        • -2

So half the points you listed are 'military' issues…..who's fault would that be that Australia is getting ripped off?

Mining, gas, resources. Ok…want to be specific or just throw words around ?

And great that a cafe that isn't being inclusive is shut down. Isn't that the mantra of the left?
