    No I don't believe it's below cost.
    RRP was $1,299 so this is not even half priced.
    and it is still too expensive for a 1080p projector….
    Review seems poor as well…

    Whenever a salesperson says they're selling it below cost price, they're not

    • +1

      What would they say when it's truly below cost price?

      • +4

        "Its below cost price"

      • +6

        Often salespeople aren't shown the true cost price on a PoS system. It might give them a generic 25% off RRP as cost, or they might have a system in place where they can discount items to a certain extent but any further would require manager permission and a reason.

        Point of sale systems are more complex than the average consumer thinks.

        I found out when working for one of Woolworths' failed ventures many years ago that you could find out true cost price by writing something off.. but then it's written off lol

        • +3

          That explains the failed venture

            @U30004: *writes off $5 million worth of goods to make a cost price spreadsheet

    Slightly cheaper at the Samsung gov store $714.45 if you have access.
    5% less if its your first purchase via the Samsung spp.

    “Below the cost we need to still make a profit in line with our business goals”

  • The cost is $400 max. 1080 for $800 bucks is pretty expansive. 85” tv is only around $1k6 nowadays

    • You’re confusing manufacturing costs with retailer costs.

      • +3

        That’s the retailer cost. Manufacturing costs are around $200

        • Your logic makes zero sense.

          So you’re saying it costs $200 for the manufacturer to make, then they charge the retailer $400. Then the retailer sells it for RRP of $1,299.

          So the manufacturer is cool with making $200 profit while the retailer makes $899 profit.

          Glad I don’t have to work in retail dealing with people like you trying to negotiate better deals.

            @PainToad: Yes that seems correct.

            • -1

              @onlinepred: Yeah, nah.

              • @PainToad: Seems standard. Many small businesses make videos explaining this. These items are very low sales numbers, so hence the higher margin.

          • +3

            @PainToad: This is not uncommon.

            Retailer has to add cost such as store front, sales staff, marketing/ads and risk of the product not getting sold/sitting on the shelf for a long time.

          • @PainToad: Your numbers is actually the reality.
            Retail cost is much higher than manufacturing cost.
            Take the example of a pizza.
            Food cost is probably less than $1 but the price is $20.
            Think about Rent, wages, insurance for employees and premises and stock, energy, computer system, accountants, taxes and licences, commision, marketing, legal costs, delivery, refund for returns, risks including shop lifting etc.

        • I have no reason to doubt drhip. I used to buy this projector from his fsctory few years ago and he told me his manufacturing cost was $200 per projector

  • Lol

  • +1

    What’s the goto budget projector people are buying these days?

  • -2

    Will get this if $250 not more.

      Thanks for letting us know

  • I have this, bought back in 2022 I think, I love it but I think I wouldn't pay more than $500

  • I agree this is still too expensive. Notice that there is the 2022 and the 2023/24 minor upgrade.

    I have the original from launch and apart from the fact that I blew up the battery pack (optional extra) by mounting that to a hot wall through summer (my bad) with almost constant charging and that I recently knocked it off the shelf breaking a plastic screw and the auto keystone is broken (sensor needs cleaning or broke in the fall) the smart apps all work and I don’t need to worry about attaching anything over the HDMI which is good because it’s one of the awkward mini sizes and it’s awkward to connect to a non Samsung soundbar as a result I remain happy with it and have got a good few years out of it precisely because it is so portable which helps when I move between houses. My 75 inch TV is stuck unused in the wrong house because it’s too hard to transport.
