can someone with knowledge shed some light, if i buy the same 0w-40 but penrite or nulon full synthetic is there actually even difference? thanks.

    • Not much difference just different additives. If you are driving a euro car then get the Castrol, if you are driving japanese car then get the Nulon which is going for $50 for 5L https://www.amazon.com.au/Nulon-APEX-ECO-GF6-Engine-Litre/dp…

      • That Nulon oil in your link meet 'Latest API SP & ILSAC GF-6A'. @ SCA, Autobarn & Repco: many brand in 5W-30 don't have this spec., except Valvoline Engine-Amour & LOW-end…weird?

    • 0W-40 is an interesting-viscosity & more expensive than 5W-30. For the average-joe, stick to PREMIUM-brand…others include Valvoline, Castrol etc.

To be quite frank, anything more than $12 a litre is not a deal.

    • Just checking - this isn't 5W-30?

    • For this oil it is (unfortunately). Stuff isn't cheap, and I have a fussy car.

        fussy car

Other than manufacturer's recommendation, what features of your fussy-car that warranty 0W-40 instead of say 5W-30?

Feel free to be detailed…advise make, model & year?

        • It is the manufacturer's recommendation (2010 XR5 Turbo) and one of the country's most well renowned specialist mechanics for these cars has seen a pattern of significant issues when correct spec oil is not used. Not worth the gamble to save a few dollars IMO.

  • Too expensive

For 0W-40? You're not thinking of 5W-30, or do you mean in comparison to other brands?

      • -1

Just bought 5w 40 from Bunnings for $39

  • Same price at repco for those who are going to a store https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/engine-oils-fluids/engi…

  • Castrol claim HYSPEC-standard in some of their Edge range, eg 5W-30 A3/B4, https://www.castrol.com/en_au/australia/home/products/our-br…

Some expert here love to read. Can you fact-check Castrol's claim…including 'Engine-intermittency' ?
