Im curious what makes this thing AI. Everything is tagged AI now, its annoying.

    • +3

Intel AI Boost Neural Processing Unit (NPU), faster AI processing.

In reality it's likely not utilised because most people use AI via online sites that process things themselves (ChatGPT/Gemini/etc)

It's more just a sales gimmick at this point, it's a few years from being relevant to endusers.

They're slapping the tag on laptops without an NPU too, so idk anymore. This one does have an NPU though.

      • i have this laptop, though the 125h one.

How do we use the NPU?

It's probably already in use. Ever do a Teams/Zoom/whatever chat that's blurs the background? That might be utilising the NPU rather than hammering the CPU/GPU with the task to reduce power consumption. It's good for audio analysis as well.

It's like having Tensor cores in a Nvidia graphics card, only without the huge amount of memory bandwidth to do LLM stuff. It's AI in the sense that it is very efficient at large matrix calculations.

They just quietly leave out the bit that it's really not very sexy AI.

          • @[Deactivated]: ah yes. Acer keeps touting on about their AI software (bloatware) on this laptop, must be using the NPU.

It has a dedicated Copilot button. It's like a shortcut to open up the COpilot app where you can ask it anything

I has a built in, seperate AI cpu.

  • Came back in stock, someone sniped it lol
    Out of stock again

  • I have the 125h version.

    This is a good laptop!

My screen (glossy) reflects back a warped image though, like a magic mirror, which his weird and funny but I've been told that this can be normal for oled screens.

  • That iris igpu is that the same iris from the old intel 12th gen igpu???
