Damn it, recent leaks suggested they would have hall effect analogue sticks, just checked it out based on your comment, you are correct. No hall effect analogue sticks in joycons or pro controllers!
Drift is a significant issue, I'm disappointed they didn't sort it out properly especially considering the price. Although I will say, I sent my joycons to Nintendo for free repair, which was good and should be the minimum they do considering the prevalence of the issue.
just buy an 8bitdo controller with hall effect sticks. it should still work

I think I'll sit this one out for a while. If they had a new 3D Mario or Zelda on release I'd have been tempted, but a new Mario Kart I can wait for.
It's be great if they released a little non-handheld, traditional console version and shipped it with a pro controller, but I won't be holding my breath on that one.

Nintendo have done really well with this form factor, can't see them doing a non-handheld anytime soon. I play mine docked 95% of the time, but I also find the screen handy the other 5% of time, so it even works well for me as is.
