This seems like a cracker… battery is decent at 84Wh + free M.2 2280 slot as well

  • +9

if i got this and on paper it looks amazing, i'd just leave it unused because it's too high end and im just using google chrome to waste time which is not a good use case for this device. right now i'm enjoying getting refurbs i can just use in anger and not care much about it if they sit unused.

    • Similarly… Any refurb recommends under $400 atm (AOE II HD DE capacity)? Would you usually go ebay?

    • +1

My 2021 MacBook finally crossed into the realm of "it's ok to eat near it" territory this week. There's some 10th gen Intel Thinkpads for around $300, which are much better buys, but the mini led screen and OLED TV have spoiled me. I see deals like this cheaper each time with an OLED and I'm happy.

      • +2

couple weeks back picked up an MBP 16 M1 Max 32c GPU 64GB/2TB for $1400.

today I opened it up and installed a new battery.

I don't think I will need another laptop for a few years to come..

yeah I eat next to it. even if I screw it up I can still trade it in for about the same money

        • Very nice find.

          • +1

@padricko: I couldn't believe it. traded in my base (16/512) M1 Pro MBP 16 for just couple hundred bucks less. solid upgrade..

yeah M4 Max is like 50% faster, but is it really $5k worth of "faster"? I don't think so

  • +1

$95 cheaper than the Lenovo AU site.
    I'm waiting for > 10% cashback deal.

    • +10

I have 2.7TB on my desktop in use, and 1TB on my laptop in use with 500GB free.
Your use case doesn't represent everyone else's.

      • +1

I know, that's why I'm curious what you guys do

        • +3

Some people like storing all their photos, videos, and other data in the local storage rather than in the cloud. It saves more money in the longer run than having cloud storage.

          • +1

@Promistaker: This is my case exactly. Loved working with a Lenovo laptop, now as a SAHM just looking for something with enough storage to store 10+ years of family photos.

          • +1

@Promistaker: Only 1Tb? Have everything loaded onto multiple 5Tb portable hard drives 🤣

          • +1

@Promistaker: what happen if you loose your laptop? or drop it in the river?

            • @jmel: What happens when someone loses the Email and password for a cloud login or the third party deactivates the account? Risk is everywhere; how you manage it makes the difference. The best practice is to create a few copies of the data on different drives and save them in various physical locations.

        • Need a ton of storage for software and files for work + storing old photos and videos + downloading games

        • @PeeDee - you do you, we do we! (rhymes?)

    • I have 1TB on my laptop for Travel. A couple hundred gig of stuff to watch on the plane, followed with photos. Over a few week holiday, 1TB can fill up very quickly with Raws from a couple of cameras (Mine and My Partner's).

    • I hate you desktop supremacists

  • Does this have a graphics card?

    • +2

      Graphic Card: Integrated Graphics

It is not a dedicated graphics card.

    • +2

Integrated gfx is - AMD Radeon 860M

  • If you want a 2-in-1 it seems like the Lunar Lake ones have finally arrived as well, IdeaPad 5i 2-in-1 in currently $1250

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/edu/education/en/p/laptops/ideapad…

These Lunar Lake chips are highly efficient and perform quite well, I believe should be able to do light gaming as well given that they are using one of the higher powered variants of these chips in the new MSI Claw (which reviewed well but Price sucks)

    • +1

The only issue is that the Intel Lunar Lake laptops lack Hyper Threading so perform worse than these AMD CPUs. You really notice the performance difference when running them side by side. Passmark states that the AMD CPU in this laptop is up to 21% faster than the Intel 258V.

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/6397vs6281vs6393/AMD-Ry…

    • Is that lunar lake though? The link is for a 225H.

Tempted to get an ARM laptop for the battery life myself but depends how close Intel can get to it.

      • You know what, you are right, i missed the H at the end lol

ARM Is good man but think carefully about your use case, personally some of the stuff I use wont work so I am not considering it

Lunar Lake Laptops however is usually rated for 20+ hour battery life and it was also confirmed by reviewers so that will also definitely do the job for you, YOu need to look for CPUs that end in a V

Check some reviews of Lunar Lake online first tho

Edit: also this one is 100% Lunar Lake https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/901696#comment-16433467

But still seems pricy, I will wait for end of the year to replace my surface probably

  • +1

Do they have the 16 inch version for a similar % off as well?

    • the 16" version has pretty much the same specs except 300g heavier, more screen, and a numpad. Obviously it's good to have a bigger screen and numpad but it's less portable.
16" version with 32GB RAM is also about the same price on the regular Lenovo site. There was a 15% cashback deal a couple days ago which I hope you took advantage of.

      • Oh that's good to know! I forgot about cashback too which'll be good to keep in mind

No, I didn't purchase one yet. I'm tossing up between an 16'' IdeaPad Pro or one of the Yoga models.

Looking for a really premium feeling laptop (with a glossy screen) which is pretty tricky for a windows one unfortunately…

Still kicking myself for not grabbing a Intel M15 before they stopped making them. I got one for a family member and it's literally the perfect laptop for what I want…

  • Anyone used it and can say if the integrated graphics is capable?

    • +9

Capable of what? Making you a morning cup of tea? Probably not.

Interestingly the the AI 350 is slower than the last generation (8845H) - I wonder why

    • +4

It depends on the laptop reviewed. The AI 350 in most reviews that have come out is running at a lower TDP than the 8845H. The trade off is that the 8845H uses more power than the AI 350.

I think this laptop in a recent review had over 19hrs of video playback.

    • +2

Really? Notebookcheck's average performance across CPU benchmarks put the AI 7 350 as 10% faster than the 8845HS when tested in the previous gen of the same machine.

As others noted, factors like thermal/power constraints, plus memory speed etc. can make accurately comparing chips between different laptop models a bit more difficult.

  • +4

How can you survive a glare screen?
Work MacBook pro has the same awful glare screen, cannot really use it outdoor or near the window :(

    • Depends on the circumstances. Glare is annoying, but despite always ending up with matte screen laptops I prefer glossy. One is a lot use glass as the covering which is just more likely to look good after a few years than plastic, less little marks and scratches etc. The second is just that it makes colours pop in a way that matte finishes do not.

    • I'm with you on this. We shopped one of the previous gens of this model and had to buy direct from Lenovo to spec it with a matte panel.

Glossy panels are a mistake you only make once.

      • I opted to matte as well, but the panel is IPS and not OLED in that case.
I don't fully get why they don't make matte OLED panels

      • Agree it's not as elite a panel, OLED has its own issues though.

  • This or switch 2? Looking for something that can do emails and run Mario kart.

    • +3

Definitely this. It can do emails and will run your legally acquired emulation of Mario Kart for SNES well.

    • +2

Definitely Switch 2. You can play Mario kart, then get your performance review call from your boss over GameChat.

    • I feel like there's a cue for definitely both. Since you had one of each option.
Switch 2 for gaming and a cheap chrome laptop/android tablet for emails

  • -1

I know this is 1 k more but if it goes on sale for under 2k is the spec bump better or is it better just to get the OP deal for $1500.
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-14-…
Right now I'm playing the waiting game as I heard the 880m is a good improvement over the 860m

    • I heard 860m, 880m and 140v are similar with swings and roundabouts depending on the game. What make a significant difference is the amount and speed of the RAM and the power limits

  • How does thia compare to a Yoga Slim 7/7i/7x? Thats what ive been looking at lately.

    • Only thing that puts me off yoga is they tend not to have a 2280 m.2 ssd slot. Only 2242. Correct me if I'm wrong

  • +1

    I don't need it, i don't need it, i don't need it. =(

  • How much does this laptop normally sell for?

    • +1

      It has never sold before

  • Thanks op. I got it from the regular Lenovo store but with 15% top cashback. Should work out to about $1,340 after cashback

    • +1

I did the same, although also ordered through the Education store before the cashback deal was available. Cancelled the first order yesterday and then re-ordered it through the main Lenovo store. Luckily I was able to cancel the first order (took 24 hours to notify me that cancellation was successful). I also did not get Wifi 7 so it will be $1317 after cashback.

  • missed the 15% TopCashback.

If I used partial MyLenovo Rewards for the purchase, would it still be eligible for ShopBack?

    • Yes you will still get cashback according to the TopCashback T&Cs.

      • Purchase via shopback not topcash

  • Cashrewards has 14% cashback now but not for ideapad range. Only ThinkPad Yoga and Legion. Might be an excuse to opt for the intel yoga 7i 2in1 with 228v and 32GB RAM for $1,679 before cashback, $1,444 after. For the extra money you get touch screen and genuine intel cpu

    • +2

"Genuine Intel CPU" an upgrade? Is this 2016 haha

I jest, but the 228V is a pretty major downgrade, around half the speed in multicore per notebookcheck (226V and 228V are same performance, just different memory config). Average of single and multicore is more like 33% worse. iGPU is around 10-15% worse.

Battery is also 14whr smaller, although in fairness that's made up for by better idle/low load efficiency on lunar lake.

If you really want the form factor or touch screen its not a bad option.

  • Why wouldn’t the IdeaPad pro 5i be the better option. Pretty sure the 225H is a better chip?

    Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 225H Processor (E-cores up to 4.30 GHz P-cores up to 4.90 GHz)
    Memory
    32 GB LPDDR5X-8533MT/s (Soldered)
    Storage
    512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC

$1479 on main store, probably similar price on edu or less.

    • Maybe, if it had the 7 255H

      • But isn’t the 225H still better than the AI 7 350 in this deal?

        • Potentially, it certainly has more cores. What do the benchmarks say?

One thing I'd note is that the PL2 for the 225H is 115W, whereas the AI 7 350 tops out at a PL of 65W in performance mode. Those are arguably different classes of chip at that point.

          • @snep: Yeah I did see that. I wonder if they’d have similar battery life for light and normal usage though. I assume the intel uses less power idling or low energy tasks so they should be similar

    • Not sure where you're seeing that price. This configuration comes up as $2259 on the main store

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5/ide…

      • The website has now changed, and it is

        Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 255H Processor (E-cores up to 4.40 GHz P-cores up to 5.10 GHz)
        24 GB LPDDR5X-8533MT/s (Soldered)
        512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC

So even better processor again but less ram and storage

The original deal in this post is now also gone too. Party’s over

  • Deal is now over.

  • Shipped from Lenovo today as promised

  • AH, snap, missed out on both, APRIL & the TopCashback deals. 😓😭😭😭

    • +1

There will be May and June end of financial year deals, of course. However you should probably order at least a week before EOFY because the invoice date is the shipping date.

      • AH, thanks mate, will keep an eye out.
