Considering what you save upfront with 10% GC or 20x GC, the phone's effective cost is $753 in the current environment. I went through the credit check, then cancelled and paid the termination fees of $550. Your real savings are $200.

IMHO, it would be better to buy this phone outright and save the process for a more recent phone at a pre-order stage.

    • Maybe I don't fully understand how this works but from the fine print, item 3:

The $800 off the current ticketed price of any mobile phone (referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions available at www.telstra.com.au/jbhifi-mobile-terms) replaces the dollar value of the Voucher in the Critical Information Summary and will be applied to the purchase price of the mobile phone instore after connection approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term

Doesn't that mean the voucher repayment fee should also be $800 instead of the $550 shown in the terms? Or does it just replace the voucher and the repayment is still $550?

It's the Voucher that you receive that the value changes, which that clause states. The repayment fee is its own thing in the CIS as "Voucher Repayment Fee" and is not replaced by those terms.

    • sadly Pixel 9a isn't available fo pre-order this time. Just walked pass JB this morning, the phone will be available from 16th Apr.

    • I know it's too late now, but why couldn't you do the cancellation process for this phone, and then do it again the next time?

      • Why would you destroy your credit rating for a $200 saving? Get a bonus credit card instead.
Plus you will have to port in and out twice

Feeling better and better about selling one of these for $650 second-hand last week, with all these deals 😅

    • Oh very nic3

Sorry, I am a little bit confused - do you get both the $700 JB Gift Card and $800 off any mobile phone so total of $1,500 value?

      Lol why not

    • I just tried this and no it doesn't work. It's either the $800 for a phone or $700 for anything else in the store

Does that mean minimum cost for cancelling after purchase is $37 + $550 + $79 for one month = $666?

    • Wanted to ask the same, can we bypass first month fee

      • I did it by cancelling before using the sim card on day 0 and using telstra chat to ask for it to be refunded. YMMV.

        • @drfuzzy what was the final price you paid after the refund? Was it $37 + $550 = $587?

        • How much did you end up paying in total?

        • When did you do that, was it before JB launched their own MVNO?

I assume it’s not Telstra that’s the contact these days.

        • How did you cancel before using the sim? Was it via chat as well?

  • Sign up for 2 plans and you will have $1600 in credit?
