These Hokas used to go for less than $100 some years back; now we are considering $200 as bargain.
personally i bought Toread shoes last time i was in china. much cheaper than euro/murica brands and still great quality imo
i looked up li-ning shoes on ali, supposedly pretty good alternative
Gen Z making ugly ass fashion trendy.
Switched to Salomon shoes now
Problem with Salomon is they are a super soft and grippy rubber compound, which is great for trail running but not so great for the bluestone cobbles of Melbourne. Wear through them pretty quickly.
Look at Sketchers pricing. They used to go on sale for under $50
Doubt it was the Gore-Tex version
Also there's this whole inflation thing, not sure if you've heard about it
Being goretex, does it mean it’s water resistant?
Looking for a ‘casual’ shoe with good support that also is a bit water resistant.
it should keep light rain out. i doubt the 'breathable' upper will keep heavy rain or deep puddles out
In this review they ran into all puddles and stayed dry.
https://believeintherun.com/shoe-reviews/hoka-clifton-9-gtx-…I always wear Goretex shoes when travelling. Water only gets in when its constant drenching rain, and even then its only a little bit.
Jimmy. Yeah, pretty much and a bit breathable. I've submerged shoes and no real issues. Only way to get in is through the top and if you've damaged the shoe and goretex layer.
The goretex adidas terrex is on sale at Anaconda in limited sizes for $165.
Water resistant, definitely. But only breathable when dry. When the outside is wet, the air inside the shoe can't escape due to the water molecules blocking the holes where the air escapes. Same applys to Gortex clothing and similarly named/made products.
I have walked through shallow streams with my Goretex trail runners. Socks stay dry.
500km+ in the Clifton 8 and still going strong. Very comfortable, well supported running shoe.
Despite running plenty, I am a complete noob and only just found out about the thumb rule in terms of sizing, so make sure you leave a little breathing room at the front of the shoe.
I do agree that these feel a little on the pricey side, but 500km for $200 feels reasonable.
for $200, try out the vomero 18.
Much nicer than cliftons IMHO
new shoe designs are so ugly. why can't be stick to the basics
Because clowns think shoes need to have giant padding on the bottom on them.
Some of us who do more than walk from the couch to the fridge and back benefit from that kind of padding.
Eliud Kipchoge seems just fine is the traditional design - https://athleticsillustrated.com/all-systems-go-for-eliud-ki…
Some of us who do more than walk from the couch to the fridge and back benefit from that kind of padding.
Humans were running long before (and a lot more often) before companies realised they could market to suckers who could be tricked into thinking we need giant moon boots on our feet to do something our ancestors did perfectly fine without.
All this padding also trains people to heel strike potentially causing more harm than wearing minimalist shoes and learning how to run with correct form.
Shoes are so basic. Why can't we have new designs?
you have the 'freedom' to buy basic designs if you wish. they still exist.
EE size?
Been looking for something like this + water resistant so I can keep going for walks and light jogs in my area during winter, so sick of soggy feet!
For this price , brooks ghost 16 maybe
I'm open for suggestion but the Brooks isn't water resistant?
Also same price with the all black variant.
The Hoka looks to be more comfortable and better bang for buck.
Ghost 16 GTX are only $20 more than this and are gore-tex water resistant.
Um not from what I can see - it doesn't appear to be water resistant?

The Hoka looks to be more comfortable
Hoka of adding a ridiculous amount of padding tricking people into thinking it "looks" more comfortable is working I see.
I'm not a runner but looking for a pair of comfy shoes for doing 30k+ steps whilst on holiday.
The Hoka just "feels" to be the better choice. Happy to be wrong thou.
@mg_k: You really need to try shoes on in my opinion. Everyone is different. My only advice is bigger doesn't always mean better.
Just bought these, thanks op. Definitely good casual and walking shoe for Melbourne in winter.
As far as running goes probably won't be the best but hopefully ok when wet. This any good for 12 hour work and lots of walking?
I bought these shoes last year during their Boxing Day sale, and to be honest, I regret it. They are not comfortable at all, and the quality is not the best compared to the price. I would suggest buying ASICS instead; they are the best. best
Thanks for letting us know
Glad people are starting to see through the Hoka fad.
Shoes can be hit and miss, I was a long time Asics fan and went to Hoka for a little while. I bought some Kayano 31s for the first time in a while and it wasn't even 6 months before the rubber started peeling off the bottom, and that was just from walking.
I have the regular Cliftons and I agree. I'm more comfortable on my brooks ghosts tbh. I think ASICS and new balance might have better balanced cushion shoes but even for recovery runs I often go to my Ghosts. But this is a runner. I tried to use this as my travel shoe and it was fine (Cliftons) but prefer the NB 880s
I bought and will run in these bad boys 800+ KMs over 3 months this Winter, thanks. Also had $60 credit, so nice $140 pair of shoes delivered QLD to MEL in 1 day.
I'm surprised there's still sizes available
In 10.5 too!
10.5 always goes first
Some other shoes on sale too, but less available sizes, e.g.
