So free SIM or is there some 1 day layover catch that will make us ineligible if we don't recharge the second month?

    • Free month. Service has to remain active for 30 days so you should be good

      • +2

Mate is post-paid, not pre-paid, so you can't just let the credit expire as you would on a pre-paid service.

        • My bad dun know what i m talking, it is a post paid service.

Mate does not have great reviews when it comes to their NBN performance.
They uses Wireline as backhaul, which is the likely cause behind this.
Most people who care about performance end up complaining a lot and end up switching back to their more expensive providers.

However, if you are less fussy and just want any NBN internet connection for cheap for 6 months, then the $40 NBN 25/10 connection combined with this $50 cashback works out to less than $32 per month.
If you want the cashback, you have to stay connected for at least 30 days, so if worst comes to worst, you only have to put up with it for a month before switching (unless you start your service around February).

  • Will it recharge automatically?

    • It's post-paid, and billed monthly in advance. As such, there's no "auto recharge" like you might have with a pre-paid service.

      • Thank you. So we need to contact them to cancel the service.

        • +2

Either cancel (and lose the number), or port out (keeping the number). For anyone thinking of giving this a shot, it's probably best to wait until next month to activate, since May has 31 days.

          • @Colin2905: Hi Colin2905, I activated the sim card in May but the billing cycle will end in a few days. If I cancel the service before the next billing cycle starts, the service won't be active for 30 days. If I don't cancel it, I will be issued another bill. Have you ever come across this issue?

            • @nned2say:

Have you ever come across this issue?

No, I sat this one out. Having had a Mate mobile service in the past, I could've run foul of the "new customers only" condition. On top of that, post-paid billing comes often with its own set of challenges.

See easternculture's post further down….. "I just contacted them and told them not to renew after 3rd month ends." Might be worth a try.

  • Nbn plan doesn’t seem to be discounted during check out even after applying the promo code.

    • Not discounted, TCB account shows cashback estimated payable after 16 weeks

The promo code TCB30 for bein sports failed, but other code BEIN did work. I have $25 pending now and I think that offer should be OK with TCB

    • They could argue that the BEIN30 or MATE30 are excluded from the cashback as not listed on TCB. Seems dodgy that TCB30 cannot be applied.

Although the MATE30 code is auto applied and usually auto applied codes are okay with cashback.

      Who knows, go figure.

      • I'm assuming there was some mixup with the codes. I'll take my chances since the promo doesn't really cost them anything.

          @Paul B @stonecold

Please note code TCB30 is now working again. Cheers.

          • @tightarse: I had to use BEIN30 to get the discount off nbn plan because TCB30 didn’t work. Will it be eligible for cashback? Regardless, my purchase hasn’t tracked since 16 April

            • -1

@frostybite: Hi. The code is unlisted on TCB and unfortunately a claim won’t be successful per the terms around code use.

              • +1

@tightarse: That is not good enough since it is TCB fault for the non working code and it is misleading advertising if ppl have to pay full price when the advertised code not working.

Rejecting cashback for your company fault is unacceptable and ridiculous.

                • @samehada: Let me correct a few things for you. The code was supplied to us by Mate. It was working fine when tested then stopped working later that same day We contacted Mate and they fixed it within 12 hours. No-one forced anyone to buy anything at full price. You could have waited until the code was fixed. You know the terms better than anyone around unlisted code use. We’re hoping that Mate will make an exception and not decline if the unlisted code was used for tracked orders, but that’s not our call. Certainly however, untracked claims will not be honoured. Thanks.

                  • @tightarse: No worries, I’ve cancelled the order and will place a new order with TCB30 tonight. However my purchase of their mobile plan without using any code didn’t track since 16 April either.

                    • @frostybite: Sounds like you may have some browser or plugin issues. Please use the app with mobile data and see how you go. Cheers.

Rang them up. definitely postpaid. Too risky. I’ve heard stories on here of people being chased up for late fees or extra month payment and threatened with the debt collectors.

    • I used them when they had 3 months for $3.
I just contacted them and told them not to renew after 3rd month ends.

  • @tightarse TCB30 isn't working ATM. Shows as invalid. Can you please fix this?

        • Working for me too. See below.

    • +1

@sandscruise What exactly are you trying the code on, as I can't replicate the error? See here. Cheers.

      • @tightarse I selected the nbn 50/20 plan and got invalid code error message. However, the code is working for all other nbn plans except the 50/20 one.

        • +1

You are right. @tightarse I just noticed NBN 50/20 plan is the only plan with a different promo code advertised BEIN20 (Save $120 + Bein Sports). The other NBN plans have the "Save $180 promo".

The code TCB30 (or non-TCB code BEIN30) is for "Save $180 + Bein Sports". Hence TCB30 (or BEIN30) does not work with the NBN 50/20 plan (Save $120) but would apply to the other NBN plans (Save $180). Not sure if NBN 50/20 plan is meant to be excluded.

  • Just bought the sim plan yesterday and the cashback has tracked. I was planning to port into mate around 8th May (when my current plan expires).

But mate say that the billing date is 25th (yesterday) and thus I will be billed for 25th April to 24th May. They would then credit the difference (as I will join on 8th May) onto the next bill.

Does anyone know would this void cashback?

    • Can you please advise @tightarse?

  • Off all the ISPs I have churned through Mate must be the worst…constant dropouts…still gives me the nightmares that I only want to keep swapping between Superloop, Exetel and maybe Tangerine….Mate has given me nightmares that I am scared to even try out new ISPs like Buddy
