140

Trade-in your old phone for a JB Hi-Fi Gift Card! Get a Bonus $150 off any Google Pixel 9a via JB Coupon when you trade-in and redeem by 30/4/2025.

No where near as good as last year's 8a deal, but looks to be the best available for the 9a at this stage.

Still to be released at Officeworks and Google Store, but historically JB have had the best Pixel deals.

Regular trade in rates are pretty low though.

    Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus 5G = $500
    Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus 5G = $160
    Samsung Galaxy Note 8 = $5
    Pixel 6a = $100

Yeah I got (quoted) $0 for Pixel 6a with a screen crack. Hopefully HN or someone else has a better 9a deal.

    • Reckon you'll get away with any kind of crack on the screen? I've got little ones in the corner of a Pixel 6 but I still think I'm trying $0

    • +1

Looks like HN has it on their $69 Optus plan for $0

    • Google store is offering $150 for pixel 6a with a cracked screen.

  • The trade in bonus says for "Google Pixel 9 Pro XL". Where does it say the $150 can be used for the Pixel 9a?

All the Pixels are getting outside what I'd spend on a phone. Reminiscing about getting a really good Nexus under $400.

    • my nexus 6P lasted me 6 years and actually replaced my pixel 2 when it stopped working for a good year. Still my favorite phone ever!

It still runs to this day albeit the battery isn't great

    • How do you feel about iPhones then? :P

    • my nexus lasted 3 months. piece of shit

  • +2

You can get it for $839.00 from Nostech ebay store, using coupon APR100

$8 isn't worth the warranty headache IMO. I suspect international stock as it's been up for a while.

I know looks aren't the most important thing and this has reviewed very well, but when a piece of tech costs approximately $900 I'd expect it to look a bit more premium than this. The back looks like a mid range phone from ten years ago, and the front not much better.

    • But also remembering what's inside , is the real nuts and bolts of your purchase !
Beauty is only skin deep .

Wait for pixel 10, and the chipset can be much better regarding rumors.
I am a pixel fan who used pixel 4xl, 6 pro and 7 pro, ditched it and started using samsung s series because of the sh** chipset from google despite the fact the pixel os is way better than the bloating oneui.
Keenly waiting for pixel 10 series to get back to them.

    • Never had much of an issues with the 7 Pro, myself. Funny that you skipped the 8 and 9 series, as both are far improved in regards to heat, battery and modem.

    • whats been the issues with the chipset? I've had the 2, 6, 6a and now 9 and just bought a tab9 and really hate oneUI compared the pixel stock. it could just be their tablet UI tho

If you go through the JB $79 plan you could get the phone for essentially $550 (voucher repayment fee) + $79 (one month of the plan) = $629, assuming you wouldn't trade in your phone in this case. But it looks like the JB plan deal expires today?

  • Question - why is the Pixel 9A nowhere near as good as the 8A?

    • +2

      You mean deal or phone?

This is was 8a launch deal at JB

      "Google Pixel 8a 128GB $849 + $200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card + $300 Trade-In Bonus + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi"
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/844795

EDIT: I see my mistake, I should have said last years deal in the description. Edited.

Ahhhh gotcha, Yeah the clarification for deal vs phone makes sense now. Haha. I was just curious about whether people thought they'd made some bad downgrades from 8A to 9A, which confused me as reading reviews, people seem to be saying the 9A is awesome and incredible value for money.

        Cheers

      • much better deal compared to 9a

Am I the only person noticing that the pixel 9a is the first pixel of recent times to not get a gift card plus trade in bonus? Pixel 8a was $850 but had $250 gift card plus $250 trade in bonus. To me pixel phones become a lot less attractive at near full price.

  • The old 3G phone trade-in deal was an absolute steal compared to this

Got an email from Google just now offering $300 trade in for a pixel 6a or iPhone se2. Not sure if it's targeted or not

    https://store.google.com/au/config/pixel_9a?hl=en-gb&utm_cam…

Might try this, $300 trade-in for pixel 6a seems decent. And if it the valuation comes in at 75% or less you can get it sent back.

  • +2

Bad deal compared to last year with the 8a

    • agreed. I got 8a at officeworks with the bonus trade in credit and OW giftcard.

  • Does this screen crack if you sneeze like the 8a? Between this and the dodgy updates they did to the 4a, I am not sure pixels are worth the premium price they now charge.

  • Another option on JB’s website:
Get a Google Pixel 9a 128GB for $0◊ when you switch your number instore to JB HI-FI Mobile on a $79 plan over 24 months
Maximum voucher repayment fee as per CIS is $550

    • Can you stack with the 150$ rebate?

  • Looks like the 9a has an optical fingerprint scanner?

  • Camera is crap. Check out sample photos from reviews. Photos look very digital, overly sharpened, brightened shadow areas look like a painting. Must be too much processing going on to make up for the smaller camera sensor compared to 8a.

    • Link to some YouTube reviews. Which one did you see?

I thought pixel phones are no.1 in smartphone photography. Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, Oneplus etc are just catching up to Google Pixel levels of A1 photography.

      • Pixel 9a has a smaller camera sensor than 8a and 9. In addition to the digital, overly sharpened painterly look, the out-of-focus areas look really noisy and ugly.

        Check out the samples: https://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_9a_handson-review-2821…

        • I would think Google would at least put in same camera sensor or better for the 9a. It’s the successor to the 8a! But no, Google installed a smaller sensor for whatever reason….
Samsung ISOCELL vs Sony IMX ?
I prefer Sony sensors. But I believe Google uses Samsung sensor for the main wide camera for Pixel 9 series.
Pixel camera was top notch quality in the pixel 1 to pixel 5 series. Sony IMX sensors in those.

This is how they got the camera module flush, not sticking out. Smaller sensor can use a smaller lens. Trade off for the aesthetic result of having a phone with no lens bump. On the other hand, if you're using a case it makes no difference.

          • @milanoxpress: IMO, the 8a phone made no commercial sense - in many regards, it was entirely equivalent to the 8 but at a lower price. So I'm not surprised if on this occasion they actually make it less good.
