@techpool do you have to buy two if you want to do more than 100 hours per month?

    Service is mid now

    Miss the free tier :(

now you only get 3 hours allowance per 3 months lol

  • When you consider the cost of a gaming PC with a 4080 this ain't too bad. I don't know what CPUs they put into their racks but they ain't good. I signed up for a month so I could play game pass titles on my SteamDeck and the frame rate was jumping around erratically in some titles. Even dropping the game's resolution to 720p did nothing to remedy this which would point to a weak CPU. Seems they're saving money by skimping on the other hardware components

    • What game?

      • +1

Avowed, Cyberpunk and AC Shadows. Simulation heavy games get hit hard. Games that are already lacking CPU optimisations don't fair so well on the service.

    • That's sad to hear. I was thinking the same thing (that it'd be more cost effective to "rent" GPU time rather than buy an overpriced graphics card)

I assume you did everything to rule out issues on your end, like running ethernet?

      • On a SteamDeck, if I activated frame gen in the game settings and capped the Deck's screen to 60 fps (max output of using the browser based NVIDIA GeForce app for Deck) you could disguise the CPU crunching the frames. If you're monitor or tv supports gsync and you're running through a 3050 or higher NVIDIA gpu you can paper over it with gsync to a degree. You can trial the 4080 tier for like 3 hours so test on your own devices and see for yourself

I've been playing MH Wilds (100 hours so far at 1440p/4k on high textures) on Ultimate and the experience has been great.

No frame drops at all and getting above 90fps at 1440p.

Nice, yeah if you got good internet it’s basically indistinguishable from a full on gaming rig although some library limitations most games are on it. I have fttp and it’s zero lag bliss game off a MacBook Air & max settings.

      • Agreed. I have a 250mbps plan and it feels practically native to me. Even though they recommend 100mbps, it is only an average. There are times when it requires a higher throughout.

I've played Cybperpunk and RE7 as well with no lag. As I'm getting older, this product is great for me.

The best thing is that when I'm on holidays or travelling for work I play on my Fold 6 with a gamesir 8+ controller. Even on 5G it feels smooth.

They lost me when 100h limit per month was introduced.
This is equivalent to not exceeding 3.5h per day.
Used to be a big fan but I decided to build my own gaming PC.

If you’re new, this is a great deal if you:
    - have potato PC
    - don’t game much
    - don’t mind queueing during peak hours
    - have your games on their platform, see: https://cloud.gg/games

I mean…4 hours of gaming a day if you have a job is still extremely heavy.

As someone whos been using it on/off over the past year. I actually think the limit is great. It forces you not to over game and go outside and smell the roses or hit the gym. A very good deal if you plan to travel and game off your mac. Save yourself 2k from a gaming rig, this is a very good deal for 6 months.

        I don't think you're saving much buying a mac

  • Would 5G home broadband 100Mbps /10Mbps be sufficient for this?

    • It should be yes.

Cloud game streaming services require similar bandwidth to video streams since that's basically what the nvidia server sends you and your pc just sends your keyboard/mouse/gamepad inputs. Worth testing to see if you get bad latency (ie. you want low pings) but it'll most likely be perfectly playable.

15 Mbps for HD resolutions at up to 60 FPS (e.g. 1280x720)
25 Mbps for FHD resolutions at 60 FPS (e.g. 1920x1080)
35 Mbps for UW QHD & QHD resolutions at 120 FPS (e.g. 3840x1440 or 2560x1440)
      45 Mbps for 4K resolutions at 120 FPS (e.g. 3840x2160)

  • Very laggy when I had a paid subscription. It was also extremely annoying that I had to log in to Steam each time that I wanted to play a game. A lot of games were unavailable too.

Even a far lower specced local pc produces endlessly superior results.

Been using GFN for about 2yrs on/off now and love it. Considered building a PC or getting a console back then and during that time I've spent around $350. Played a whole bunch of games at maxed our or near maxed out graphics. This is a great service for casual or on/off gamers like myself who just want access to a great rig when I'm playing and not paying for it when I'm off gaming for maybe months on end.

This will get me through Shadows and KCD2 which I had on my backlog

  • As a casual gamer nowadays that has migrated over to Mac as my primary system, I can't really justify investing in a high spec gaming PC (and upgrading every few years). Though when I game I enjoy cranking everything to max, and so this subscription service works out to be pretty cost effective over the long run in my case. I've been on the Ultimate tier for the past ~6 months and I've got no complaints so this seems a pretty good deal.
