They are so probably trying to flog copies of these now
happened after release where the vocal minority praising the game didn't live up to the sales numbers, lots of people bought at retail and it flooded trade in's and marketplace. To a point I picked up my copy of it for $25 within weeks of release.
Then didn't play it for ages as I had it spoiled….. waited nearly a year to play it and kept running into known bugs in the game that hadn't been fixed after a year.
From what i've heard as well skybridge is still pretty buggy in this release too, and they cancelled factions?
The vocal minority were the fans personally critical of the writing's direction, the game's critical reception was amazing. Sales for the new release were excellent by industry standards, and there was/is a healthy secondhand market.
That aside, everyone is entitled to their feelings and opinions on the game.
The tv show is good enough or dont bother to watch? I like the walking dead
It's excellent. Well worth a watch!
Best thing about the TV show is the care the production team is to include episodes with meaningful stories ie never feels like filler episodes and it stays close to the game at the same time.
That second episode of the current season though … 😧
I know right. That was the last thing I expected in episode 2.
I finished the first game a long time ago (never got around to playing the remaster), and the Last of Us Part II has been sitting on my massive pile of shame too, so when that particular scene happened (I won't spoil it for anyone), I wasn't prepared for it. Was it a dream? Surely, that can't be real?
It really affected me.
@Graffin: I haven’t seen the show but that scene in the game made the whole story take a wrong turn.
They should have saved that for a Part 3.
@Graffin: Most people know about that scene and it was gratuitous from Naughty Dog to do this. It was done for shock value rather than telling a story.
@Raj09: Part 2 is a vengeance arc portrayed by protagonists on both sides. It's clever and breaks down the good/bad conceit in story telling.
Joel was a more conventional protagonist in Part 1 and fitted the typical mold of allowing the player to project themselves into the main character. You're challenged to displace your empathy when his death is the outcome of the Fireflies' answer for justice served for his decision in the Part 1 finale, and it propagates further desire for retribution but this time by Ellie.
If you're uncomfortable with your male protagonist dying and the story developing with a lesbian protagonist and a female protagonist with masculine traits, that's reflective of how rigidly you can appreciate narrative. The writing can develop in any which way it wants to, the more unconventional the more impressive from a creative perspective, but the quality is determined by how closely it relates to the human condition. And Part II achieves that like perhaps no other game has in this medium, and the sex and orientation of it's characters are irrelevant to that.
The show is excellent. The one caveat though is that so far there's only two episodes of the second season out and they don't quite deliver the way the game did. Kind of feels like the director didn't really get certain concepts from the game and that lead to a lower impact. Can't say more without spoilers.
Just watch the show, I think it's pretty faithful to the games, if you want to see what the hype is about.
I loved part 1 for the characters and story but despised part 2, just hated how it attempts manipulate the player to like a certain unlikeable character, and there was also a large part of the game that end up leading nowhere. So, not worth the 30 hour or so time investment if you ask me.
The cast for Ellie in the HBO show is pretty bad compared to the game. Plenty of other actresses would be more appropriate for the role.
Just that scene where Ellie shoves a shiv up her own throat to portray how to kill a clicker was really out of character. The Ellie in the game would never do that as joke.
The only way they can make the show better now is kill off Ellie and make Joel the main character. Now that is the last of us show I'll watch.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - $94 at Target if anyone is interested.
Surely this will drop but as it is Bethesda this may not be the case
Hopefully, been waiting for Wukong to drop but it’s still at $109.
HODL!
Indiana jones and the Great Circle $99 @ big w add two packs of men’s 5 x basic socks $8 each to make it $115 and use the code MUM15 for $15 off $115 spend so the game is $84. 👍
Nice golfing simulator
actual lol!!
I'm going to hell for laughing at this
I don't get it.
Joel gets it
I'm assuming it's an inside joke that only people who have played the game would understand?
i'd get this but it looks too violent, sorry
I don't think @jollyrogga is Jeff Bezos' account.
huh haha
Do I neg this deal because the game wasn't great and any critisism of it and it's terrible writing instantly sic a bunch of die hards on you who think the game is a flawless masterpiece… or do I neg it because seriously sony, re-releasing the same game over and over stops other games getting funded, but to re-release entries in this series to the point they have where the first game has so many editions, so many cuts, a remaster and a remake that the second game got a remaster and has ALREADY had a new release announced of it.
You could be the biggest die hard fan of this game or the series in general and still be like… what is with all the releases dude?
Writings not that bad compared to other games imo.
Gamers in general have limited exposure to other story mediums that's we are seeing all these safe bets/re-releases and fan services in gaming right now.
Plus you have the small proportions of incels labeling every non-traditional character as "woke".terrible writing compared to its direct predecessor
druckmann should never be given full control again imo
Have you not watched any traumatic movies or novels that makes you hurt psychologically and don't give you a choice for a happy ending?
Again the game had some nonsense plot holes sure, and the story is of a different genre to the first one. But clearly some of the criticisms just show that a lot of gamers are small brain creatures that are just looking to shoot stuff or control big boob characters.@dodoli: where to even unpack this…. no one plays a post apocalypse game for a happy ending.
There was a great article written at the time of the games release where it celebrated what was done in these scenes where instead of making a lot of this stuff where you had no choice to progress the game unless you clicked a button, to "force the player to take accountability" of their actions later.
That's using trauma.
You can watch the boy in the striped pyjama's without pressing X to open the door to the chamber and get the point across.
This is what I don't get with people that blindly support this game, it invariable goes down two paths, either it's some anti lgbt+ person wanting to do a patriachy, or it's dumb neantherthals that just didn't get it because they weren't sophisticated.
Meanwhile we're getting another re-release of this game…. a game that has two games in the series is now up to how many re-releases?
How many other games lost funding because sony knows that the defenders of this title will buy it another seven times?
@typhoonadventure: Do you have any data backing these 'diehard fans'? I don't see many of them in the wild compared to the 'diehard haters'.
And I would argue that the value of video games as a media lies in 'forcing you to press X and open the door' rather than 'giving you a choice to bomb camp instead'.
Perhaps Sony is trying to cash in on these diehard fans with these re-releases. But it could also be that gaming companies are so focused on safety these days that they’re not willing to take the chance on big-budget original games anymore, because the gamers are so close minded.
There really isn't that many of them and that kinda falls apart when so many had praise for the best written character in the game, that happened to be trans.
It didn't matter they were trans, they literally had the best writing and story threads in the entire game.
But that didn't stop them from claiming that everyone was outraged by mistakenly thinking abby was trans?
It's been five years. Maybe it's time to move on from the culture wars around this game.
@Snakey Chook: It's hilarious, I did an experiement with this…..
I wrote up a comment with no vote about making a vote, listed how this game has incredibly nasty trolls that worship it's ground despite issues with the game, the story, and ignoring all that, how hard it's been milked.
Found common ground and good discourse with a few and pointed out how as soon as the legion of trolls in support of this game voiced disapproval there would be bombing, threats and association to "the culture wars"… which was never really a thing with this game, it was the shield the supporters and the PR team of this game hid behind.
This game has one of the better representation and handling of a transftm that's been seen in mainstream media.. the rest of the story is a mess, but people ignore that positive mark and immediately attack and detraction thats not 11/10 as an affront on culture.
Watch how every comment I had on this since applying the neg on the deal where I leaned on the side of, again they're milking the hell out of a brand as hard as skyrim/gtav has been milked, and all the positive votes have been nuked on every single post and i'm already being abused as an "angry neckbeard who hates lgbt" in my inbox.
It is not the best written character and the game was a shadow of what could have been written. You can drop the virtue signalling.
Agree with your thoughts about how Sony's creative output has changed over the last gen or two, we are now getting a much more limited scope of titles and their marquee titles get re-released at RRP or higher.
But Part II has phenomenal writing and is one of the highest quality examples in the medium(1).
The game is far superior to the TV show in every way. Forget the show and play the game.
I think they are different enough that you can still enjoy both as I have (I played the game first).
You can also watch the full game cutscenes/dialogue for free on Youtube, which I still recommend if you don't want to buy/play the game.
I was hoping Part I would go on sale as well during this time but it's still $100+ in most places, it's ridiculous
Unbelievable game. I want to play it again and I never replay games.
Big w come on price match this deal
Bought the digital base game for $15 a couple years ago and upgraded to the remastered for another $15 last year. Didn't get around to playing it until last week. Don't really understand the extreme criticism for the game. Ellie is a pocket Rambo/Marvel Avenger going around butchering everything. Anything else thereafter isn't going to make sense. Hence, I care not for the story.
I watch aggressive gameplay on videos on YouTube and once you learn the controls, the game is outstanding. Just started playing Abby in the campaign, roughly about 50% through. When you finish, you get to have modifiers like unlimited ammo. The game is very player friendly for all types/levels.
I find the gameplay so damn satisfying it makes me want to replay this even though I just finished it recently.
My thoughts exactly.
Call me an idiot who doesn’t understand how pregnancy works, but Mel running around like Spider-Man while pretty heavily pregnant, will never make any sense to me.
Oh and she’s a medic too, you know, someone important you don’t send for supply runs or whatever. For such a well crafted and realistic world, this bit was super dumb.
cast has been really, really bad other than Pedro Pascal.
If you have played the game, you'll notice that Ellie doesn't look like Bella Ramsey, despite many alternative actors being available. Some actors looked exactly like Ellie who auditioned but were less famous and weren't cast for the role. Bella that been cast don't seem capable of handling zombies, while in the game, Ellie is fit and strong, and you can tell she can stab and kill a few zombies even in hand-to-hand combat.
Abby is known to be built like an ox, muscular, and well-respected, leading a team. She's like Brock Lesnar in the game, while the cast member Kaitlyn Dever looks nothing like game Abby. It's disastrous. If you have played the game, you will not love the show due to these disastrous casting mistakes.
100%
Kaitlyn Dever buried her mother three days before she started filming. She didn't buff up because she was caring for her dying mother. Some people are STILL giving her shit for it on instagram. Those people need to suck it up and remember there's real humans involved and harassing them online and posting hate and shitty memes says far more about the person posting than anything else. If you get so upset over pixels that you need to hate on someone just doing their job, that's a you problem. Try to be nicer. It costs nothing.
My experience from seeing biopics is that the closer the actors look to who they are depicting the more caricturised their portrayals are, really putting up barriers to being immersed or believing their scenes.
I have no problem with actors looking different, and Bella Ramsay I agree is very different, but I judge their portrayals in action and feeling and nuance. They did that in Part I, I was immersed and the story was retold in the same world with the same stacks and the same relationship dynamics.
Casting is not important for non gamers viewers.
Another day, another “remaster”
I swear this ones a reremaster, cant keep track of how many times its been sold now
I got the original part 2 for the ps4 a year after it was out for a year for $9 from jbhifi, priced matched Harvey Norman, because nobody wanted the game or something, lol.
pretty funny times, used to be so wild back then https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647899
Same, and I just paid the $15 upgrade to play the PS5 version with my PS4 disc. Finished the game a few days ago in preparation for season 2 of the show.
Now do part 1 cheap on PC.
Waiting for it to go into PS plus :)
I heard joel dies
But the consequences of his actions live on…..
My god the discourse around this game is so toxic. Fun fact - you can like or dislike something without needing the rest of the world has to agree with you. Calm the f*** down chodes. And yes, it’s always chodes who get the most aggressive about it.
WTF is a chode? I had to look it up and it still doesn’t make any sense.
great, I just bought this yesterday for $69. Guess that's my luck.
Aren't they just releasing a Complete Collection for that same reason?
