I believe this is the cheapest Steam copy you can get right now.

If you buy before 8 May 8:59am you can grab a small bonus (free game, US$1 coupon) via their LEVEL UP SALE promo.

  • Does this stack with their "5% off your next order" email they give out?

    • +3

No, it accepts the code but it shows it as -$0 discount.

      • Bummer, cheers though!

  • Cheers OP.

  • +10

Don’t forget it’s also on gamepass.

    • +7

Even though I have gamepass, I'm buying this one. One of those games I'll still revisit long after my gamepass subscription from Turkey ends.

      • +6

Wouldn't you try it on Gamepass first? I mean it might not be the kind of game you like.

        • +6

I'd normally agree, but given it's a remaster of a nearly 20 year old game, and pretty similar to Skyrim that's been around for 15+ and had about a million releases on every platform under the sun, I'd suspect most people who might be interested will already have a decent idea of whether or not they'll like it.

Still, a good option if you have Gamepass.

      • +8

Just play on Gamepass until it expires, this is just a graphics overhaul and price is going to head towards $10 every Steam sale with Skyrim quickly.

        • steam is the only platform (non console) where they cant triple dip.
oh wait they can with the base, dlc, complete edition, goty and now remastered.

    • +1

Doesn't help if you need it on steam deck or use Linux unfortunately :(

  • +10

Many many hours were sunk into the original. I wonder if the khajit still has wares for my coin.

  • Does this game offer the same kind of freedom as Skyrim. Or are you pretty much stuck with following the story?

Oblivion is THE foundational game, while Skyrim merely expanded on it.

      • +12

Surely Oblivion merely expanded on Morrowind?

        • +6

Oblivion heavily improved combat mechanics. Morrowind relied on weapon skills, you could hack and slash at enemies and do no damage until the weapon skill increased.

Oblivion enabled sword and shield control which made the game flow much better.

          • +12

@sghetti: Yes if you've only ever played Skyrim, Oblivion is much more palatable than Morrowind.

I will agree though that Morrowind is the true foundational game, but the change from Morrowind to Oblivion is greater than that of Oblivion to Skyrim.

        • Surely Morrowind merely expanded on Daggerfall?

    • +6

It has arguably more freedom than Skyrim, though it comes with a lot of jank

      • Really unclear why you're getting negged since the jank is a huge part of this game being such a memberberry.

  • The system requirements can’t be found in a 2006 machine. But at least doesn’t require the latest Nvidia GPU.

  • +23

Going to hold out for the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Collectors Edition, followed by the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Anniversary Edition and probably then the The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Ultimate Never To Be Repeated Edition.

Whilst it's nice they've redone Oblivion, Morrowind still has my heart.

    • +9

what about the Samsung Smart Fridge Edition, or the Myki/Gocard smart reader terminal edition?

    • +1

Can we please just get an updated Morrowind. It seems that is what the fans want.

      • Unfortunately I don't think this is true, kids these days haven't experienced the feeling of levitating above your enemies and poking them with a spear as they look up at you helplessly

        • +1

All the grand dad fans then

    • You gotta wait till they finish Elder Scrolls IV: Oblovion Final Ultimate Ultimate Edition FR edition in another 20 years time before you see a Morrowind remake.

  • +2

As a person with Body Type 2 I am very excited that they have made the game inclusive for people like me.

    • +1

Waiting for the "actual sexes" mod to drop

  • -5

Hot take: OG Oblivion with mods is better than whatever AI-upscaled "Open Beta" slob Bethesda has just cooked up

  • +3

I know its a beloved game but this era of remastering/reselling the same games over and over really grinds my gears!

    • +2

      Need new clutch then

    • +14

To be fair, they waited nearly 20 years, which feels entirely reasonable.

    • +2

You should see how they do it over at Nintendo.

      • Wait until you see what's cooking with Oblivion on Switch 2. It's gonna be a straight port of the 360 version at an unstable 30fps.

      • Mfw still no ocarina remake. 3ds version doesn't count

    • -4

If it was $20 I'd have less of a problem with it, but full AA cost for basically whacking some new image files in a folder to resell the same thing… yikes!

      • +6

Don't disagree, but thats not a fair description of what they've done. They completely recreated every model from scratch in a new engine among other changes.

  • Tod, Tod, Tod…..fool me 4 times shame on…

Wait for the inevitable price drop within 6 months (if no gamepass).

    • +3

For once Todd isn't over hyping this. It actually looks like they put a lot of effort into it.

      Now whose laughing!

      • Well you are just assuming…. lots of releases "look like they put effort into it"…

Im still laughing until I see the product.

But if a company releases crap products and over promises - then they announce a new releases, I'm going to be dubious

      • ……AND……I bought it….

Intried it out on my laptop, (4GB 3050) with losselss scalling and frame generation (not a smooth experience because of the hardware.

But it gave me the memberberries - so I bought it on PS5.

  • +2

I’m gonna wait for the price drop on this one. Simply from principle standpoint the game is charging ~8% above highest market exchange rate as off 23 Apr 09:00. That is; instead of trying to help non u.s consumers by offering near market value foreign currency equivalent, microsoft, bethesda and valve decided it was justified to charge 8~10% above the highest market exchange price favouring usd for AU.

You can justify it with a lot of reasons but in the end the consumers are the ones eating the unnecessary price increase just to help offset u.s discounts

    • Don't blame Valve, they're not the ones who set prices on their storefront.

    • +2

      US prices are tax exclusive. US$50 + GST = $55 = AU$85.91

  • Too many good games at the moment i'm gonna have to wait - currently playing Civ 7, Commandos origins and bought Tempest Rising. I don't have 200 hours free to play Oblivion lol

  • Just mod your old copy and see if you like it as much , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsO93Sok3B0

  • Horse. Armour. Sets.

    Sold. ^_^

  • +2

    STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!

  • +1

Initially could not complete payment on the Fanatical website on PC browser. Banking security checks did not pop up. Solved by using phone and phone pay option, which worked

  • +1

I just want to know if the items on tables explode when you sit down

  • Worked great thanks OP

ps: the Elves are still ugly

  • Is this likely to be released on Playstation or Switch? Even down the line in a year or two. This is THE GAME that got me into gaming again. I now know why all my friends were playing it instead of wanting to play footy after school in my high school days. This has more charm to me than Skyrim. I don't know why, maybe because it blew my mind at the time, whereas I was going into Skyrim knowing what to expect. If you haven't played this yet, do it! The nostalgia feeling is real!

    • It's on PS5 and a Switch 2 port is rumoured.

      • Oh cool! Don't own a PS5 but its good to know. I thought Bethesda had an exclusive deal which prevented it being on PS or Switch.

        • +1

MS own Bethesda but they're pulling back game exclusivity.

      • Because OzBargain….

You can buy it for PS5 on the Indonesian PSN store for about $60ish. Get IDR PSN cards from one of the various stores that sell them. I used G2A but their prices went up a bit recently.

  • Are the graphics made up to Skyrim level?

    • Imo way better if you got the hardware to run it. I have a 9070xt and it's awesome.

  • Looks up from Elder Scrolls Online
    Shrugs
    Resumes killing dragons

  • Its pretty crazy they are asking $70 for a 20 year old game.
Sure budgets are getting higher, but its getting pretty crazy how few games are released compared to the 2000s….

    • Sure it's a 20 year old game. But If you've never played it, is it still 20 year old game ?

I'm gonna buy it. Everyone talked about how great oblivion was and how Skyrim was a dumbed down version. Now time to finally see wtf everything was about.

      • well at least you can run in the game now…..

  • Cheers! I'm travelling and bought it in USD. Wise charged me AUD 65.21 and it activated on my Australian steam account.
