Scoot still hits hard with the cheapest flights to Europe, and with 10kg carry-on luggage and one stop in Singapore, it's a great (budget) option from SYD, MEL or PER. Scoot is the low cost carrier arm of Singapore Airlines.

My experience with Scoot was having the initial flight leaving Perth delayed by a day. I only found out when trying to check in. The rebooked flight was then delayed leaving Perth delayed until after the flight leaving Singapore. Somehow that became my problem. After a lot of stress they rebooked the flight leaving Singapore departing 46 hours after the my arrival in Singapore. Not ideal. A three day delay on a holiday, not ideal.

This is really making me reconsider flying Scoot.

Not worth the risk & discomfort. LCCs are OK for short haul but long haul international no thanks.

        • +1

The more connections you have, the more risk. Flying scoot to Singapore from Melbourne is a breeze. Well worth it.

Ha, telling us what countries Athens and Vienna are in in the title is so American 😁

Not knowing major cities across the globe, outside of America, is so American.

This is just an awful airline.

Yes you might find a $1,000 fare to Europe but keep in mind the moment you add checked luggage the price goes up by $380. And that's before you spend a single cent on food. In the past they even charged to use the AC socket, and I prohibited you from bringing on your own food and water. Why torture yourself for four very long sectors just to save a couple of $100 v a full service airline.

Probably not something I would do now - but back when I was a teenager looking to get to Europe for as cheap as possible, I would have jumped on this in a heartbeat.

      • +3

I think even a cash strapped teenager who does his or her research would decide this is a very poor offering for Europeans travel, particularly given how much the full service mainland Chinese carriers are discounting tickets these days.

    • and I'm guessing paying for a window or aisle seat.

      • you mean pay for any seat

Works for us with a family of 5. Difference between paying 5k and 10k for all of us to travel.

    • Have you factored in luggage and food?

      • Seat selection, in-seat power, the list goes on.

  • awesome, I'm planning to go to Europe but earliest NOV until JAN.
a time where probably no deal like that will pop up.

when would you say is the best time to book a flight?

We are looking at the moment for the same period as well. Some pretty good deals out there at the moment already.
Qatar Airways/Virgin, China Southern and United Airlines (would be my least favorite option) around the $2000 mark. I think that is almost as good as it gets/will get for the Christmas period.

      • true, that's what I was thinking as well.

  • I'm heading off on the cusp of peak season and Scoot was indeed the cheapest with everything factored, but it's more like $1350 return, not $850. Unfortunately i'm not calling the shots when it comes to checked luggage … if i was booking atleast 5 months out, Emirates or Qatar would have been extremely close to being more cost effective.

If you have time on your side and need checked baggage, there's good value to be found with the full service carriers.

I've flown scoot long haul to both Berlin and Athens multiple times in the past.
The (lowest) prices here are at least competitive against the full service airline deals offered here in the last few months.
Paid $1250 Qatar and $1060 EvaAir to Europe this year, and scoot will have to stay at least a couple of hundred less than that to make flying a low cost carrier worthwhile, certainly on long haul.
