  • Looks pretty great - would be all over it if I didn't already have a DF64.

cant find any specific reviews - is it any good?

    • My personal experience, build quality and grinding performance are good, I can get consistent grounds without chunks
I would say it's very good for this price range, as I don't want to spend close to $1k for grinder
buying from costco means you can return it if you don't like it, I'm happy to keep mine, just need to return my expensive purchase and buy it again at lower price

Need some reviews. That's a decent amount to spend without knowing more about this machine.

  • Excellent grinder. 64m burrs, 2 saved timed settings, manual on touch screens and with portafilter switch. 6.5-7 seconds for 18g.

Stepped adjustment but the change is very small so easily fine tuned. Easy to adjust and easy to spin the top burr off for cleaning.
A bit of retention and needs weight of the other beans, not great if you're considering single dosing. Some 3d printed mods and baffle could make single dosing alright.

Build quality is excellent, all metal housing and components except the hopper, motor is big, unit is heavy.

    • Is that from personal experience?

      • I've been using it for 6 months.

    FWIW (not much):
-WPM are a pretty solid brand - more popular in asia than in the western world. They are known in the western world / more mainstream coffee world for their milk pitchers (which are supposedly great). To a lesser extent, their ProSteam stand-alone milk frother is also a somewhat known commercial steam wand used in some cafes (and by some home users, particularly those with manual espresso makers that don't have steam wands). My local cafe uses a ProSteam, for when they are too busy with milk drinks for their main machine.
-WPM are an OEM/contract manufacturer, that makes lots of gear for other companies / that get rebranded by other companies. eg. They make the Niche Zero for Niche, and I believe they are the OEM for a lot of Sunbeam coffee gear. So they are not some random small company, they make a lot of stuff.
-I don't know anything about this particular grinder, but Tom's Grinder Lab (pretty robust Australian reviewer) reviewed the WPM ZP1 grinder recently, and gave it a pretty great review.

That is not really very helpful in terms of understanding this particular grinder…but just based on the above, I'd be pretty confident that it's not a total dud. Based on the lack of people raving about this grinder, I wouldn't expect it to be an amazing grinder by any means (otherwise, surely someone would have "discovered" it already?) - but I'd guess it would be a decent workhorse of a grinder, especially for the price.

    • I enjoyed that read. Thank you. Just picked up a Dual Boiler and wondering what direction to go in now. What's the stock standard ozbargain recommendation? And what's the best option overall? If you don't mind and if you happen to know.

I’m not sure what the consensus on OzBargain is but the DF54 tends to be considered the best value in this price range by many forums and reviewed. I’m not familiar with this unit

What's the stock standard ozbargain recommendation?

        Not sure, tbh.

I would guess the standard recommendation to be: DF54/DF64 or a Eureka Mignon (Specialita or similar, ordered internationally from Espresso Coffee Shop). A lot less popular (known) would be a Starseeker (eg. Starseeker E55), which is probably worth looking at as well.

Below that would be Breville Smart Grinder Pro, which is really the bare minimum really. (Would recommend spending more on something better.) You might consider Baratza Encore ESP instead.

Whether this (the WPM in this deal) is better or worse than any of the above, that I do not know. (Although, I am pretty sure it will be much better than a Smart Grinder Pro!)

And what's the best option overall?

I don't think such a thing really exists, tbh. It's more about what is best for your needs/tastes/preferences/budget - which is entirely subjective!

    How loud is this?

My baratza 270 wakes up the next neighbourhood every morning so I'm really leaning toward a quiet machine (eureka Mignon/atom) next time around

    • It seems to get its grind done in about two seconds.

  • Is the grinding setting range sufficient for proper espresso to filter coffee? I cannot find any information on this. Any help would be appreciated.

    • +1

      It’s only for espresso

      • Thank you for the clarification.

  • If I remember correctly, WPM made an espresso machine that looked like Sunbeams one too, I suspect they are made by same OEM.

Spec wise this is a great deal! Would be interesting to see how it fares against the usual suspects of 64mm flat burr grinders e.g. DF64 and Timemore 064s..

I know it’s designed for espresso, but surely this can still grind coarse enough for an acceptable Mokapot / Aeropress grind right?
