Found Roamic while looking for a travel sim for Japan. Way cheaper than anything else as far as I could tell. I'm using it on Tokyo at the moment and it's great. Paid AU$11.
Lots of other destinations this is just the one I got.

can I buy now ,use it in Nov.?
can someone please confirm this?
Just purchased. You have 180 days to activate.
That takes you to 21 October, using this calculator:
https://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadded.html?d1=&m1=&y1=&…
Cool! Thank you for confirming this! Cheers
Awesome.
Where do you collect it from?
It's an esim so…
From your email inbox?
Great, so it starts on first data usage.
Did you just activate it when you arrived in Japan?
Damn this is a lot cheaper then the ones I bought from travelkon especially unlimited
Travelkon and similar are almost always notably more expensive than others like these and Ubigi etc.
Whenever anyone points it out, they will always respond by saying 'But they don't have Australian customer service!' and I've yet to work out why Id want Australian customer service for a product that I would use solely while not in Australia.
Do they use a local carrier or roaming? Any chance you could tell us the IP address you get?
i'm keen to know this as well … @sietes .. give you're currently using it, can you advise ? :)
It is a local Japan IP.
Good price, but always compare at esimdb - 10GB for 30 days is $8.68 after promo code at MicroEsim https://esimdb.com/japan
@shump
Have you got a link please … because I can only find a deal which is $8.68 USD and not $8.68 AUD.
OP is 10gig for $11 AUD
Yep, esimdb can be a bit difficult to navigate, and the AUD prices change frequently as the exchange rate varies.
Go to this page:
https://esimdb.com/japan/microesim
Make sure "Apply Promo Codes" is turned on (pink text on white background), and then scroll down until you find prices about A$8.68. One of those will be labelled "Japan KDDI 5G 30 Days / Total 10GB"
For me, the price is currently showing A$8.64.
Oh thanks for that :D
It even shows the breakout location …
FYI, you can’t select the e-sim after scrolling down so just click on link to the official site and apply coupon (ESIMDB) after selecting the plan from there
@SwissCoffee: Not quite correct, you must activate it within 30 days from purchase. It expires 30 days after you activate it, being a 30-day eSIM.
@Russ: Thanks for the correction, I agree, I worded it wrongly. I meant it requires activation in 30days. If someone want to buy now and activate later (post 30days) it will not work.
One thing I found was they have delayed delivery once you purchase you can ask them to deliver on or after dd-mm-yyyy day they will deliver. Just email them [email protected]

Thanks, that's useful info for my next trip overseas. It means the eSIM can be purchased when the exchange rate fluctuates in your favour, provided your holiday is already booked.
Although this post is about Japan eSIMs, I just discovered MicroEsim have plans for Europe that are similar to their Japan plans, some with "unlimited data at 128kbps".
This means you can always message each other, or even voice call through WhatsApp or similar, even after your high-speed data allowance runs out.
Examples on this page:
https://microesim.com/products/europe-31-countries-esim-5g
I'd use their 500MB/day (+ unlimited @128kbps) plans, available for up to 30 days.
argh! should have gotten this…bought travelkon last week
Roughly the same price at Nesa Mobile.
Yep I found Nesa on esim db and we used in Japan on 3 phones a worked great. They have 20gb for $11 usd atm
Apologise if it is a stupid question.
If I have the unlimited esim in my phone, can I use it as a hotspot so that my partner can share the internet while we are out ?
Not all eSIM providers allow you to hotspot. Usually they'll tell you on the product page.
For this deal, click on the plan you want (unlimited data / 30 days?), and scroll down. Under the heading "eSIM Details", if it says "Hotspot: Yes", then hotspotting is allowed.
Just be aware that hotspotting has limitations. If you both get separated, and your phones are out of hotspot range, you won't be able to message each other to meet up. Your partner will have to find somewhere with free WiFi to get back in touch, which could be impossible if you're somewhere remote, like a beach or national park.
Best to get an eSIM or physical SIM for your partner too, preferably one that allows unlimited data at low speed so they will always be able to contact you.
Thank you so much for your advice, we probably have to buy 2 sim cards to avoid problems.
Hi OP. just wondering if you have any deals for China travel sim?
Great eSIM deal, thx
Can this be activated immediately? I’m in Japan atm and my one may run out.
Yes
just grabbed a 5GB / 21 Days - thanks OP.
Currently in Japan.
I bought one in Australia, but durring set up my phone died and the qr code no longer works.
Arrived in japan, order another (5gb esim). Email with QR code arrived within 5 minutes.
Activation took about 2 minutes once i scanned the QR code.
Working perfectly as i walk around Tokyo.
I'm jealous. Wish I could just go down to the local shops and buy katsu sando, like you can in Japan.
Hopefully it'll become a reality soon. 7-11 stores here have onigiri, maybe they'll expand their range.
What speeds you are getting?
I jumped on this provider due to seeing it here now in Japan. Bought the 2 unlimited sims, so far neither of us are getting 5G only 3G/LTE, no hotspot enabled and can’t select network manually only automatic/‘roamic’.
I’ve sent them a message and will see how it goes but was hoping for it to be an alternative to a slow hotel wifi.
We’re in central Tokyo.
So after contacting them and spending another few days with this esim, I get drop outs and sometimes very low speeds despite having full reception (less than 1mbps).
Their response was that the network may be congested and there’s nothing they can do. If your after a very basic sim it might be serviceable but advertising 5G/hotspot when it hasn’t been available and no disclaimers on the website seems dishonest.
Based on my experience I wouldn’t recommend and if issues keep occurring will need to change providers which will be a waste of money.
They seem to be using IIJmio as a MVNO provider.
Bought 10GB/30days, happy with it. Used in Tokyo, Kyoto and now Osaka - no issues whatsoever. I'm getting mostly 4G or 4G+ (moto g54 5g) all is good, no drop outs, happy, great value, thank you, OP.
Yes, IIJ for me as well.
