I think this is a good price for a frame lock; frame locks are low security locks for quick stops to prevent the rear wheel from turning and someone riding off with your bike.

This requires eyelets near the rear wheel to install. Not many bike frames have these but are more common on dutch style commuters.

I've been using one of these for a couple of years and find them really convenient. This model lets you remove the key when unlocked.

also consider aliexpress, given these are low security.

Second one has pic with it attached by hose-clamps to a standard frame :-)

  • Anyone have a suggestion for a high security lock?

    • I believe the LockPickingLawyer on youtube said he uses Kryptonite Evolution Chain Lock (Series 4). Not sure if he uses it currently because the video was a few years ago.

      • Oh wow. I see why people buy these low security ones o_0.

My bike is $400 - guess low security it is.

        • I don't just use this, I also use a Kryptonite u-lock when locking in public and just the frame lock when it's in my garage. If someone wants to steal my bike they'll probably need to carry it. About $100 of locks to protect a $1000 bike.

    • If you don’t want to pay Kryptonite money, Onguard make comparable locks for about half the price. The Brute is way more trouble to break than a houso can justify for a $400 bike. .

    • Depends what you want.

The most secure locks will be something that is heavily resistant to angle grinders. Nearly always a U lock. Onguard, litelok and hiplok are decent brands for them. But they are $300+ for even the cheapest option and the best options are usually closer to $500.

They can still be cut with an angle grinder but it takes so long most dodgy (profanity) will give up. But then you have a (profanity) $500 lock you need to buy a new on of.

And hell recently at the bike cage at my station I saw the (profanity) didn't even worry with the lock. They bought an impact driver or something and undid the bolts for the U shaped attachment point for the bike. Would have taken no time and it wouldn't matter what lock you had on because they could just take it home and break into it at their leisure.

  • These don't always fit every bike, so recommend buying from Amazon as per OP (and trying it within the 30 day return period) rather than an LBS. I think they're particularly useful for e-bikes since those are usually heavier and thus less appealing to a thief who isn't built like Alan Ritchson.
