A few of the specs for those that are interested below:

The Sigma Art range of lenses are noted for their high-quality build and optical performance, which they deliver at an affordable price. This lens, the Sigma AF 35mm f1.2 DG DN Art features the same qualities, with a range of high-end elements and coatings, paired with weather-resistant construction and a protective front coating. Obviously catching the eye of enthusiasts, this Sigma Prime lens features a bright f1.2 maximum aperture, which makes it a wonderful option for low-light photography as well as impressive subject isolation. The HSM AF system provides autofocus which is quick and quiet, great for the modern Mirrorless user who enjoys both still photography and video capture.

  • Bright f1.2 max aperture
  • Customisable AFL Button
  • High-speed HSM AF Motor
  • Rugged weather-sealed design
  • Manual aperture ring

I've personally photographed tens of ad campaigns with the older Sigma 35mm F1.4MM DG DN for Canon and this one takes it to the next level with better weather sealing and amazing optics.

First post, be gentle.

This is a very nice lens. The money you saved can go for a gym membership so that you can hold it for more than 10 minutes.

RIP, close to 2kg on my SL2-S

  • Great deal, I was tempted but I think I will stick to my tiny Voigtlander Color Skopar 35mm f2.5 (139g + adapter).

  • Any good deals on a camera for this lens?

    • +1

Can't spot any at the moment, but I'd keep my eyes peeled for the Panasonic S5II, which would be a great pairing (broadly competes with the Sony A7IV).

    • +4

P1 is right, I use Paansonic S5IIXs and they tend to go on sale more often with some good combo deals as well, often times on Amazon, DigiDirect and others being the usual stores to discount. Panasonic S5II is great if you don't need the extra video features such as recording to SSD etc.

Panasonic S1RII is also on to look out for if looking for a more updated system.

That's an insane price, an instant purchase from me. Thanks for sharing.

  • Really like my Canon 35mm f1.4 version. Imagine this would be excellent too

  • +1

I paid almost 1.7k when it came out …

    • if it makes you feel any better - they cancelled all the orders it seems.

  • surely price error? just got one.

      • update is coming it seems, promising to be more "compact, lighter, sharper" : https://www.dpreview.com/news/5331941199/sigma-35mm-f1p2-art…

i note that it uses HSM rather than HLA.

not sure if i should keep it still.

        • There's a comparison here https://sonyalpha.blog/2019/08/30/sigma-35mm-f1-2-dg-dn-art/

The sharpness appears to be equivalent to the Viltrox 1.2 and inferior to the Sony 1.4, both of which are smaller and around $1500.

For the price it is good, but it isn't sharp at 1.2, so you are just carrying a bulky lens.

I wouldn't buy it considering you need to stop down to 2.8 to achieve 'outstanding' sharpness, that's something you can achieve with a zoom lens now.

dude, every review i've read points to the fact that it's sharp edge-to-edge, even at f/1.2.

I wouldn't buy it considering you need to stop down to 2.8 to achieve 'outstanding' sharpness

That's how lenses work tho - disregarding the fact that the comparison isn't all that scientific, Sony F1.4 achieves 'outstanding' sharpness at F2.8 too.

In the real world it makes no difference.

My only concern is the heft and the size, rather than sharpness.

I posted the review I referred to above.

In the real world it makes no difference.

That's subjective, no different from saying in the real world you can pump up the ISO it makes no difference. Depends on your standards.

I posted the review I referred to above.

Not that I really care about sharpness but MTF charts are more reliable than that review.

That's subjective, no different from saying in the real world you can pump up the ISO it makes no difference. Depends on your standards.

                35mm f/1.2's MTF50 reading is about 50 at f/1.2. Anything above 50 lp/mm is considered modern, pro-grade, medium-format territory, and macro lens level sharp. At f/1.4 it's just under 55: https://www.lenstip.com/566.4-Lens_review-Sigma_A_35_mm_f_1.…

So in the real world it makes NO difference, if i were to give you a blindfold test you won't be able to tell the difference due to diminishing returns. Focusing on techniques like lighting, exposure and composition will have a more profound impact on the end result.

FYI ISO is a gain adjustment, lowest isn't always the best either. In the real world, it is actually more cooked to use the lowest possible ISO and cook the exposure than using a (slightly) higher ISO and nailing the exposure. recovery in post is impossible if the photo is fundamentally underexposed. So pump up the ISO if you have to pump it up.

Very very heavy, this lens will collect dust for MOST people.

    Overkill if you ask me.

Had one, I shoot professionally. It's got really niche use cases.

    • +2

I'm reconsidering because you're probably right. This thing is almost the size and weight of a 70-200/2.8. I'd rather pay more for a lighter and smaller lens that won't hog all the bag space and weight budget.

  • +1

Insane first post. Added an extra set of hammer/bicep curls, lateral/front raises to cart as well.

  • It’s a beautiful lens for video with a Sony FX6. The F1.2 aperture is super dreamy on wedding and music videos.

  • +1

got the 24/3.5 for the office product shooting mainly on F11+

  • +1

My favorite lens on my Sony A7IV. Too heavy for most people but the images this gives even wide open at 1.2 is insane. Great great value. Got mine on sale a few years ago at around $1300 as well, at $700 no brainer purchase.

    • Are you using an adaptor to get the L mount fitted to a7iv?

      • I’d assume he’s using the Sony mount version.

      • Just using the more popular Sony E-Mount. but it's exactly the same lens.

    • +2

Wish they had the E mount on sale.

  • +1

Which Leica body is discounted as well?

  • Great deal. I’m stingin’ to get the 105mm.

  • Shame no E-Mount. I've got the 1.4 version. It's not a heavy bazooka like the 1.2 but at this price i'd be tempted

    • The cost to convert the lens to an FE I think would be around $350. You'd be in around $1000 all up if you wanted to go that way haha

  • +2

I ordered this lens from Teds 10 days ago, that is when they just announced the discount.

Then received an email from their support saying they have no stock at all. The order just got cancelled.

I'd be surprised if anyone can actually receive their order.

    • Hey Vic, thank you for letting me know. Hopefully this isn't the case for everyone!

    • thanks for the update. i hope they don't cancel mine

  • I occasionally use my Sigma 35mm F1.4 on my sony A7III with excellent results. For most applications, for the sake of less than a stop advantage, the additional weight and bulk wouldn't be worth it but hey, I'm sure it has it's niche…

  • absolutel steal! one of the best lens of sigma

  • Sigma 35mm F1.2 DG DN Art (L-Mount) Sold out now.

  • Any thoughts in the 24mm F3.5 Sony mount?

    • half price of the Sony 24mm f2.8
      Very tempting

    • a bit late, but i have the L-Mount version. It's a pretty solid documentary lens. really tiny, and light and you can just chuck it in your bag. terrific build quality, aperture ring is a joy to use.

another party trick is it's 10.8cm MFD and 1:2 macro reproduction.

at that price, it's a steal (if they honour it)

  • Online order cancelled by Ted's - sold out, discontinued.

  • Order cancelled.

  • My order has also been cancelled due to being sold out and discontinued. Sorry folks!

  • Order cancelled.

  • Did anyone end up with one?

    • +1

Probably not, "VicGG" said in a comment above that he ordered his 10 days ago and they didn't have stock then.
