I love this game so much. Can’t imagine anything topping it this year for me, GTA included.

    • +3

hot take, but possible! GTA V was great, but wouldn't call it as iconic as VC/SA was.

      • +4

Personally, I preferred gta4 over 5. Liberty City felt more alive and the story was better.

        • +1

          same

    • I'm having a blast so far and it truly is a breath of fresh air, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

    • What about Light No Fire?

  • I tried entering the code and it did nothing.

    • hmm, just making sure that it's OZB, not 0ZB (formatting on the deal is a bit weird)
      https://prnt.sc/qiej0h4wSzco

      • I copied and pasted from the code yesterday but looks like it’s fixed now, thanks!

  • +2

Great price for probably GOTY this year. Will keep an eye on you for other new games :)

  • +8

Just started this today on gamepass, prologue story has me hooked

    • I still need to get through Avowed!

      • Forget Avowed. Expedition 33 will have you finding any moment you can to dive back in. Gaming shouldn't be a chore.

        • I never said it was a chore - i'm having a lot of fun with it. More meant i've already got a backlog of fun games to play, which definitely isn't a bad problem to have.

    • +5

There's an accessibility option to turn them to auto for offense, so you only need to worry about the defensive ones. And they're not too bad (especially on easy difficulty) - the timing windows widen a lot, dodge becomes pretty straightforward and you can just decide on the risk/reward of going for a counter. I'm having a blast with the game with these settings, give it another go!

    • +2

Have to say it's the same for me, incredibly hard to go back to turn based combat after BG3 and finding that it's a) incredibly longwinded like bad old TB combat that made people want realtime with pause, and b) all the tactical depth is gone and it's replaced with lame QTEs that just waste time. If the whole premise of the combat engine can be skipped without really changing anything in the game, it shouldn't be there. Genuinely can't get into this at all.

      • +3

        BG3 was amazing.

I might give this game another try, but if the combat is going to suck it might be a miss for me.

The story is interesting and visuals are great but combat matters to me and QTEs takes away from the fun.

Would rather just play Oblivion remake.

      • +1

This game has loads of tactical depth in combat, what are you on about. You just need to git gud at dodging/parrying, being a bad player != bad combat system.

        • +2

I just don't think it has the depth to justify the time it takes to do basic stuff. Probably the best comparison for it is something like Darkest Dungeon. If you inserted QTEs that go on for multiple 10s of seconds per round into DD, it's not really adding depth, it's just adding to the time it takes a round to progress. It takes something that could otherwise be a fun RPG lite and makes it slog.

The other factor is, they aren't even good QTEs so far? You have a couple of buttons to press during a wind up and a timing window. We're not exactly pulling off Raining Blood in guitar hero here.

    • -5

Downvoted for an opinion lol, this place is becoming Reddit

    • +2

You can set the attack QTEs to auto and there's a mod to extend the timing window on the defensive QTEs https://www.nexusmods.com/clairobscurexpedition33/mods/28

    • It's not even the RTEs that are the problem, in my opinion. It's the poor telegraphing with the animations and visual queues and inconsistent timing that make it annoying for me. Mix that up with the fact that there's FOUR types of QTE's that need to be considered (dodge, parry, jump and a weird shadow one that appears about halfway through the game), often in the same attack, with different obscure timings for each.

Having said that, I'm having blast with the story/characters. I just wish that half of these QTE's could be removed/made much easier via accessibility options for old buggers like me who don't have the reflexes we once had.

    Are these official retail keys?

    • +3

Probably. The way I do it is if the store isn't listed on ITAD, you can't trust the origin of the keys. Gamer Thor seems to be on ITAD.

  • Great price for an incredible game

  • Absolute GOTY

  • +1

Dang it just got it yesterday for $52.69, noooo!

Also, very solid and well-executed game, although quite badly optimised (thanks UE5). Unable to sustain 60FPS on a RTX4090
Game runs and looks very meh on a Steam Deck (and it would be a perfect game for the Steam Deck), but looks very nice on a PC (if you skip performance issues or drop settings to High or lower)

    • +1

So better buy on ps5/portal than pc/steam deck?

      • Not much point in the portal unless you only have the one tv, even then you can stream to your phone and buy a backbone or gamesir joystick attachment.

        • +2

Just stream to deck using moonlight/sunshine

      • I think it's cheaper on PC, it's definitely a couch game (Steam recommends a controller) but you can stream to TV or Deck from your PC and it works quite well then.

If you don't have a solid gaming PC but have a PS5, definitely go for the PS5 version

        • thanks am on 4K OLED with a RTX3080 so am trying to decide whether it will run better on PS5

  • +5

I bought this yesterday (through steam - wanted to be able to refund it) and I've already clocked 19 hours. Killer game, if anything else this year tops it I'll be shocked.

  • Just bought it, thanks!

  • +2

Your conversion rate is off. The code brings the standard version down to 30.92 EU, which converts to $55 AU directly, or $59 if via Paypal. Not the advertised $48.99.

    • +1

Agreed not sure where that price came from.
It equates to ~$55 aud for standard

      • +7

i change the price to AUD and then apply code
        comes to 48.99AUD for me

        • Good tip on how to get the price.
Not sure why that detail was left out of op

        • This doesn't work for me? I'm getting this:
          https://imgur.com/W0JC9E3

          • @Saaaaaad: I think they raised the price it definitely worked based of @unfunkable direction

  • is this death note, the game but with numbers?

  • Put an order through you guys. Downloading on Steam now. Thanks Rocco!

  • Would it be even worth playing this on a ryzen 5 3600 with rx 5700xt? Really keen though not sure.

    • absolutely possible for you to be able to run the game at medium settings with high 40 to low 50s fps at 1440p.

    • I'm on an R5 3600 too but with a 3070 and it runs great on medium

      • Thanks - getting like 35-40 on ultra quality and 25-30fps ultra high.. what scaling are you using and what fps ?

  • I went into this game completely blind and man it's great. Not to mention, it's absolutely gorgeous.

  • +4

@GamerThor You guys should get onto GG.deals and get the store added!

  • Awesome deal, picked it up. I have nothing but regret downloading the the xbox app for this via a trial. I can once again remove all traces of that shit off my computer

  • I have this game on GamePass but wow, such a phenomenally amazing game. Came in unexpected as well as I had no clue it even was in the works till launch.

    • -1

Is it jrpg or rpg style and does it involve too too much grinding during mid game to get stuff done/ micro transactions?

(Sorry haven't done extended look into the game)

      • +2

It is a JRPG style game but French-inspired. Turn based combat with Dodge/Parry mechanics. No microtransactions. Not really much in the way of grinding.

Brilliant story, amazing soundtrack and it is an easy 35 hour plus experience.

        • +1

Thanks for sharing. Going to keep it downloaded to play soon after am done with commandos origins 🙌

        • Re: grinding, worth mentioning that there's no random encounters. It's a souls-like bonfire type of system were you can rest for full HP at the cost of respawning the trash mob enemies, but its very commonly possible to just run round dudes if you don't want to fight them. But if you just fight everyone who's in your way, you should level up enough to make it through the main story (30-ish hours).

  • Can somebody tell me where to find the game key after completing the order? The game key link in the email takes me to the order page but I can't click on anything.

    • +3

Login -> my account (click profile icon on the top right) -> order history -> view -> reveal key (or something similar)

  • +1

Did not expect this to expire so quick :(

    • Same just saw the deal and would like to buy at that price!

      • The code still worked for me but the base price is higher.

You end up with a cart that looks like the one Saaaaaad posted an image of above (54.43 AUD total)

        • +2

It just worked for me at 48.99

          • +2

@Bigredkeg: I emailed them at the email address listed in the post and they replied back saying that it should be back at the $48.99 price for the standard edition with the discount code. Just checked and it worked!

            • @alwaysupforabargain: Just for your account or for everyone? Still shows the higher price for me

              • +1

@ShadowStealer7: Looks like the price has gone back up. After I emailed them, the base price (before the discount code) had dropped to $56.66 which brought the discounted price to $48.99. But now the base price is $62.96 :(

Might be worth sending them an email.

                • +1

@alwaysupforabargain: Have to give it a shot, still probably the lowest price out there regardless so I'm not too fussed if they're unable to any more

Edit: support has adjusted the price again, got it for the listed price

  • +1

confirming that base price has been fixed and managed to purchase one for advertised price of A$48.99!

    • How did you manage to do that? Still shows up as the higher price for me

      • Can't edit, but their support adjusted the price back again so the deal is valid again

        • yeah not sure why the price keeps changing. i, too, couldn't edit to say it went back up shortly after i purchased mine.

  • +2

anyone playing this on a rog ally z1e ?
    steam deck looks tolerable.

as a fan of ff6/7/8, the turn based combat, is something iv been missing from the new rpgs/ff

  • Price went up again

    • +3

Note that these prices only apply if you have humble choice.

  • +1

Thanks Op this still works 48.99 AUD. took a while to find out where to add the coupon code

  • 10/05 20:50 confirmed the code still working
