  • The discounted price is about what it should be, right?

Also do they charge now or when the device is on the way?

    • I’m not 100% sure, it’s cheaper than all the other places i’ve seen. It’s still more expensive than going to the US though.

      They charge now unfortunately.

    • I pre-ordered elsewhere weeks ago (won't get charged until it is available). I am cynical most retailers will be fulfilling them anytime soon. Not keen to get charged now without having any real ETA.

There is really only 1 company here that had actually fulfilled the orders and has another batch coming but you need to pay $731.50 AUD.

  • would be good to know when they will be available. no ETA

  • Decent value at this price, considering the UCG-Max costs only slightly less, but has much less connectivity and is known to run quite hot

You can print your own SSD tray if you want to add storage and have access to a 3D printer.

UCG-Fiber, there are some reports on people getting ones with slightly unpleasant fan noise.

      much less connectivity

Know any good 10Gbps SFP+ ethernet modules? I have multiple devices with SFP+ modules, it is unsafe to just buy cheap ones (bought two which are completely incompatible). The two "extra" ports are SFP+ slots.

    • I’ve got no heat issues on my UCG-Max, but I’m only pushing ~100Mbps through it.

      • It will only ever become a problem past gigabit, since it uses the same chipset as the UCG-Ultra (which is a gigabit model).

  • Ubiquiti would make so much money if it knew how to keep their stuff in stock

Mwave have lied repeatedly around the UNAS-Pro order deliveries, with many of us now waiting 4+ months. Order this from ANYWHERE else.

    • +1

I was just about to order through them, thanks for the heads up

  • -1

ebay has UCG-max with 512gb ssd for 519 (using the apr code), which I think is the better buy given it has protect.

    • UCG Fibre and UCG Max can both run Protect.

      • +1

didnt see the ssd slot, my bad.

  • a rack mountable version of this would be great

    • +2

there are a ton of 3d printable brackets for these compact unifi devices.

    • I mean it would be crazy to think its not the next in their road map…

This is their “consumer” line and UDM Pro is the rack mount ones. They are not going to have the current UDM Pro’s against this which are just better in almost everyday minus few extra ports. My bet is in the next few months we’ll have a new set up UDM pros with significantly more 10gbps and 2.5gbps ports and much faster IDS/IPS routing, nvr capabilities at the minimum.

      • +1

I think it will still take some time for next gen UDM. The main reason is while UniFi can get away with 9.3Gbps backplane on consumer grade devices with up to 3 10Gbps ports (+ 4 x 2.5Gbps ports), doing that at prosumer / business grade level would be bad / silly. Furthermore, if someone is serious about 2.5Gbps LAN ports or 10Gbps LAN ports, at business level, UniFi most likely prefers them to cough up money and buy the new Professional Max (2.5Gbps + 10Gbps) or Professional XG (2.5Gbps + 10Gbps + 25Gbps) switches. We are talking about proper high speed VLANs with those beasts.

UniFi IDS/IPS routing is gimmicky because it only works for non encrypted traffic. Let's face it, most sites nowadays run SSL. The reason UCG Fiber has a higher IDS/IPS throughput is because it supports less cameras and less max number of UniFi devices. BGP support, however, is still reserved for business grade devices such as Dream Machine Pro/SE/Pro Max.

With UCG-Fiber, if you want to do 10Gbps properly with it for LAN/VLANs, ideally you also want a USW-Flex-XG switch.

        • UniFi most likely prefers them to cough up money and buy the new Professional Max (2.5Gbps + 10Gbps) or Professional XG (2.5Gbps + 10Gbps + 25Gbps) switches. We are talking about proper high speed VLANs with those beasts.

What about USW-Enterprise-24-POE ? Are these " proper high speed VLANs" ?

By the way… I can't see them even listed on ui.com anymore. :|

          • @SickDmith: That works, but not on ui.com anymore (so UniFi wants people to cough up more money for newer hardware LOL).

Jokes aside, I have 3 devices with 10Gbps ports (with one of them having 2x 10Gbps ports) so 2x 10Gbps ports on a switch isn't enough.

    buyer beware: no ETA

I've been tracking this UCG Fiber to replace my original UDM (R2D2) since its Feb announcement

    • Ha! Me too. In the same exact boat. Just waiting for stock

  • Lol at OP username

  • Integrated PoE Switch

Looks like only 1 of the ports is PoE?

    • indeed, it is more like integrated PoE injector for 1 of the ports

  • I'm looking for one of these but not from mwave unless they can give an ETA.

i thought nbn provides the fibre termination and modem / switch and hands off as ethernet to the customer so just add your own router ? thought nbn wouldn’t want issues with people doing diy with their fibre and then claiming eye site issues.

    • +1

Despite the name, it is not a fiber NTD. It's a router.

      Fiber name is all marketing

    • It's basically:

UniFi Cloud Gateway (Router + Controller) for people with Fiber Internet connection up to 10Gbps (with 1 PoE port).

    • The Ubiquiti UCG-Fiber router doesn't replace the nbn fibre NTD.

nbn fibre NTD —- ethernet handoff —- your router.

    Expensive modem

    • +6

      It's not a modem

  • At this price I’m pretty tempted

  • +1

It was listed on mwave for $523 earlier this month, but who knows what the normal price of these will be once they're in stock…

    • I was going to say exactly that ($523) - and it's now gone up to $553

City Technology (Streakwave) still have a price listed as $508.75 (but temp out of stock so you can't order it anyway)

  • +2

Of course. I just installed a UCG-Max two weeks ago having waited 4 months for the bloody thing to arrive. So of course a newer model with matched pricing comes out immediately after :(

Who would have thought Ubiquiti would release a successor to UCG-Max within 6 months? I even have G5 Turret Ultra and Ubiquiti announced G6 cameras recently.

      Have a look at these:
      Ubiquiti UCG-Max 2.5Gbps - $629
      UCG-Max Cloud Gateway Max - $569

Older UniFi devices are costing more than they used to, yet UCG-Fiber will be available at a decent price? So far, UXG-Fiber, UX7, and UDR7 are expensive. You want an UCG-Fiber right now or within 2 weeks, you need to pay $731.50. The SSD tray is additional $50.

  • AU distributor seems to be now have Cloud Gateway Fiber in stock now. People who pre-ordered these from mwave, have you received your order(s) from mwave? The retailer I pre-ordered from wants the new / revised price.

    • +2

For what it is worth, I spoke to Mwave chat back on the 19th May and they said all pre-orders were fulfilled.

Questions for you, as it may help others:

      • Who did you pre-order from?
      • Did you pay the pre-order price in full?
      • Have they requested you to pay more to receive your pre-order?
      • What did you pay pre-order, how much is it now?
      • It was just me wanting UCG-Fiber quickly and didn't read the terms and conditions

        • From Buzy (they did mention they can't guarantee pre-order price)
        • No, there was no payment needed to pre-order
        • They informed me the item is now in stock and the new price (I don't have to buy from them)
        • The new price is $609

I really need to either just wait or trust mwave more (I bought an item from mwave way back and the item wasn't brand new). Anyway, lately, after I purchase an Ubiquiti item, the price of it drops in the next few days. UCG-Fiber is available for $573 in a number of retailers.

        • From Buzy (they did mention they can't guarantee pre-order price)

Never heard of them, seems to be WA based, which could be a risk for shipping and warranty for us East Coasters.

Have you bought one already? The price seems to dropping. Current cheapest is Skycomp in NSW according to staticICE

          • @Master Bates: WA based but each state has its own distribution. They use StarTrack for my state. Weirdly, pick up is the same price so I opted for delivery. The most annoying thing is another retailer in my state told me they have no ETA, but after I bought one, they have them in stock the next day at a cheaper price.

Skycomp's postage is $20 so do add that on. Another annoying part is the SSD tray add-on: UACC-SSD-Tray. There is only 1 seller who has stock. It's great if you don't need it. Anyway, if you want bargains, then don't go UniFi.
