    GSM Arena.

Isn't it funny the cheap phones generally come with a big battery, headphonejack & micro SD slot. Oh & a charger (not sure if this one does).

Yea its crazy. Only real thing I would like in this is more Ram.

    • -1

These features are cheap to manufacture

      • +2

        That's kind of my point.

        • My point is that they are mutually exclusive with expensive features. MicroSD depends on modem, which depends on CPU, which takes more space for itself to be more powerful. But I totally agree, any vendors could have the slot if they really want to. Battery is all about space even more, and this would harm ergonomics, unfortunately. Another inch in size will make the phone unusable for one hand.

          • @Ozzster: You're not wrong, but the biggest factor is the ability to upsell to a higher spec model. If the manufacturer is selling their own branded phone there's a desire to pull an Apple and skimp on specs on the base model, so you would want the higher specc'd model. Like the $2 hamburger vs. the $4.60 cheeseburger.

But if they're just a contract manufacturer making phones for another brand then they just make it to the carriers specs, and nothing more. Obviously it's the carriers who want these features (as even a few dollars count) because they're selling not just the phone, but locking the customer to their network for recurring revenue. And if they skimp on these, others like Optus would happily pay a few dollars more if they can get people to be locked to their network.

The headphone jack will probably see a resurgence. Significant trend on social media recently with people realising how dumb the Bluetooth trend is when a $20 pair outperforms everything under $150 and can be used for years without self obsolescence.

I've never stopped buying phones with the jack; fight the good fight.

      • My latest project is digging out my old iPod classic, swapping out the HDD for an sd, and installing better battery.

Going back to the days of 3.5mm jack and "owning" my media

      Bagman was awesome.

  • Looks good value but support 4G+? lack of carrier aggregation makes internet almost unusable where I live and I got caught out with previous cheap phone

  • how long does it take to charge typically?

  • Is this the first time a carrier has sold a dual sim phone? They usually go out of their way not to

  • what colour is
