You're paying half price for half toppings. Seems about right 🤣

How on earth does this company remain viable / profitable?

    • +1

I assume by viable you mean that they don't seem to be making much profit at these prices??

I get half price pizzas on Tuesdays reasonably often. They're good value which is not something you can say often these days.

      It's not that cheap..

They just crank the price to insane levels and then 50% off sort of sounds good when you say it out loud, but the $ figure it really just about the price it should be every day.

Also, pretty much everything has a surcharge or addon that costs a few more bucks.

    • This is a business strategy. It's called loss leaders. They would make up the cost on other extra sides, drinks and surcharges which are highly inflated. Most tend to buy something along with the pizza.

      • Yes, like $6 for a garlic bread which is 15c of dough and 5c of garlic

They lost me when they stopped allowing you to upgrade to family size when the pizzas were 50% off.

You get more toppings for a cheaper price on a frozen Mcain pizza from Woolies/Coles. Probably tastes better too.

They lost me when they stopped accepting cash. That and insisting i eat onion countless times despite me telling them i'm allergic to it.

      • +2

Domino's as a whole accepts cash. That would be limited to your local franchisee's decision.

        • Yeah possibly, the next closest to me is over an hour away so when the local went cashless a few years ago I've completely stopped ordering domino's.

They used to be fairly busy, but since then you don't see a lot of customers there now.

        • This is such a terrible business decision - letting franchisees decide which of the company's rules and promotions it wishes to participate in. McDonalds owes their entire success to the fact they're consistently not terrible. They may be many things, but whatever they are is at least fairly consistent across locations, and in many cases even countries.

Dominos is such a mixed bag of what to expect. Are the toppings the same? The amounts? Are the staff competent? Are the prices the same? Can I get the special that's my whole reason for wanting pizza in the first place? There are businesses whose sole purpose it is to provide variance reduction, and then there's these guys.

Whenever I see a Dominos special that offers something I find appealing, I just order Pizza Hut.

          • @ernrdr: I've done that a few times. Pizza Hut ends up the same price anyway.

Pizza Hut should honor any other pizza coupon. I did this two years ago so I assume it's still active.

  • Has "Large" successfully shrinkflationed down to …. 6" diameter yet?

    • No they are shrinking the thickness

    • Domino's pizza sizes have not changed in size for at least 4 years+.

  • you get one small prawn on every slice of pizza, dont ask me how i know

  • Ends up being 50% savings, and an extra 50% body fat after consumption.

  • +2

And to think some people are actually paying $16 for a large traditional.

I struggle to justify 50% off that price, but I accept it as the boundary I don't want to cross on price if I need to.

  • Is it just me or is the Domino's app extra shitty? I ended up with an order over $100.

  • Pre ordered yesterday via shopback to get the 15% cashback on top, tracked just now

  • The staff claim they use scales to weigh the toppings when complained about less toppings. 🤣 Public video reviews for (the lot) premium pizza seem loaded but now the scenario is different. Is this because of this promotion they doing cost cutting with minimal toppings?
