  • OP purchased it?

    • Nope sorry. I already have a Breville coffee machine.

  • Could you buy it, redeem the caps and return the machine for refund?

    • Why not try and find out

  • +4

Get the original line. Much cheaper pods, can easily get them at about 40 cent each from everywhere as opposed to the vertuo pods that only available from Nespresso.

    • I would say this is a good price for the machine, and vertuo coffee tastes better than standard nespresso. However like you say at $1.5 a pod, a its pretty expensive brew.

    • The vertuo pods will be free use soon

      • How?

        • The original pods could be made by others after X years

          • @bargainatoraah: Don’t think Nespresso hasn’t learnt from their 1st attempt which has been copied by everyone. The Virtuo pods are now much harder to copy as they use a proprietary bar code which identifies each pod and tells the machine various information like brew temp, pressure, spin speed, etc.. and possibly if it’s a genuine pod or not. Think Inkjet cartridges!

            • @pauliau: No it's a legal thing. Patented for exclusive use X number of years.

              • @bargainatoraah: Yes i know there is a time limit on a patent, but that doesn’t mean they cant do everything in their power to make it hard or impossible for their competitors to copy their IP. They make most of their money from selling coffee pods, not the coffee machines.

            • @pauliau: I would presume third party manufacturers will just use the existing codes. I think the codes are just specifying the volume of water. Unless the machine can vary the speed the pod is spun based on the code.

          • +3

@bargainatoraah: The patent expires in 2032.

    • I much prefer the vertuo line. Has pods with much larger pours (230ml mugs) than the original line

      • +1

Same. I only drink long blacks and the vertuo pods give me a one touch coffee which is great.

In saying that, I usually prefer my Breville but we use pods for when we have guests over or if I'm too lazy to make one on a Saturday morning.

But you need to factor in size of coffee. Vertuo mug pods make 230ml coffee for around $1.20. You'd need around 3 standard Nespresso pods to make the same amount. Works out cheaper for me. I upgraded from the OG pods to Vertuo around 4+ years ago

  • Can't see the free barista tray

    • Ah, promo has been removed. This was the item but the promo isn't on the listing anymore.
