    How much for the cake?

  • +4

Incredible chocolate. It just pains me to pay $15 for a 200g block

    • +4

yes, I really like their chocolate, and working in Melb CBD they are very accesable BUT for the amount of chocolate I eat per week the cost per kg does relegate me to Aldi or coles / woolies for the binge quantaties.

      • Agreed. The Aldi Choceur and their 'Chocco changer' range gets me by!

    • What does it taste like

    • Weird i saw $14.90 for 80g

Is this just at Adelaide or applies in all locations?

  • The best chocolates love them thank god they got 8 stores in Adelaide and growing woohoo

    • Have you tried Whittaker's chocolates perchance?

      • +1

Whittaker is our fav, we always stock up when they're around $6 on sale

        • +2

          $6 on sale

Truly how dire things have become.

      • Not even close.

        • You're right, Whittaker's is way better by a large margin.

        • +1

It's a different ballpark. Whittaker's is $34/kg (without discount) and Haigh's is $77.50/kg. Sure, Haigh's is definitely better if you're cashed up, but no way is it more than 2.2 times better than Whittaker's. I think Whittaker's is the best compromise of great chocolate + value for money.

    • Can you take a second and please rephrase the sentence. I'm so confused on what you are saying.

      • +1

Looks like just below he's had a second crack (or on crack).

        • +1

          The latter it would appear.

      What are you on about?

      • -1

        Yom HaZikaron

    • Haighs, lindt, Toblerone, Aldi Choceur aren't compound chocolate, made with cocoa butter. Because there is no meat in it, it's easy to pass the Kosher and Halal accreditation.

    • +3

The White what you desiccated coconut? Whatever you're on, reduce the dose.

  • i actually like haighs chocolates except for the expensive prices :)

  • Thanks OP

Expensive but such good chocolate - if you're in Adelaide the factory store has cheap(er) seconds which are good as well!

    • Only seconds I get in Melbourne were Easter products that didn't sell for Easter. Wish they had a second / cheap brand label but same quality which was in the supermarket price bracket e.g Cadbury, Whittaker, Darell Lea, etc.

      • Yeah at the factory store they have the ones that Came Out Wrong or Don't Taste Quite Right. Still not the cheapest but a saving over the regular price.

No idea if they'd like to get into that market but they'd definitely need to expand out - as it stands the factory is over two sites in Adelaide (one processes the cocoa and the one with the store does the actual chocolate making).

  • What’s going on over east to justify so many free and cheap things right now?

    • " social responsiblity to relieve cost of living pressures by making Haigh chocolate more accesssible price wise"

    • Cost of living?

Also WA was named best performing state by CBA a few days ago.

  • Unpopular opinion but this chocolate is overpriced and ordinary. Only eat dark chocolate though. Much prefer Lindt 70% plus.
    Can't understand the hype.

    • I've been having it here and there for over 30 years. To me its hit or miss. Sometimes its creamy and delicate. Other times its bitter and grainy. For the price they charge now, the consistency needs to be immaculate. Nobody should be paying top dollar for chocolate these days and getting crap. Got some over xmas and the same thing happened again. Lucky they were gifts given to me. Wouldn't pay for Haighs anymore. We've got much better independent chocolate makers in cafes and coffee stores now.

    • +1

The prices are ludicrous, having a laugh.

    • Dark chocololate is trickier to stand out in, as it's conching, % cocoa, sugar and cocoa butter. In the milk chocolate area is where Haighs shine as they have a good balance of cocoa, sugar and milk for Australian palate and level of conching. Lindt adjust their milk chocolate based on markets.

    110 Years? Should've been 110g then!

  • +1

Having been to places like Switzerland or Belgium which are known for their chocolate (which is good) I realized just how good we have it here with Haigh's. Ultimate item are the Milk Scorched Almonds!

Just got it at the counter

  • +1

Grabbed one! Did have to ask at the counter but no issues. Thanks OP

  • +1

    thanks op! got my bar!

  • +1

    Got one, thanks OP!

  • +1

Thanks! Was able to get a bar asking at the counter.

They got me spending money, ended up buying some more chocolate for the kids while I was there. The free bar was fairly decent sized too. I was expecting it to be half the size.

    • +1

In store should be free, no need to buy anything

      • It is. But I couldn't resist (the marketing worked…)

      • The combination of never having been there before, its high reputation, and the guilt of just going for there for free product and never going back was enough to pressure me into buying some dark chocolate just to try it

  • +1

The three Melbourne city stores are conveniently accessible to check out all three 😂

  • The store I went to had run out of the free bars (5:30pm). The assistant gave me a bunch of dark chocolate and milk chocolate almonds instead

  • The QVB shore was also out of the bars when I went it at about 5:30 but I did get some dark chocolate tastings on the house instead.
