  • Will this work well for a sliding door (ranch slider).

It is 2.05m high and a double.

    Cheers!

Hey mate! It’ll definitely work for the height (2.05m is no drama), but the roll’s only 760mm wide — so for a double slider, you’d need to run two pieces side by side or go for a wider mesh if you want it in one clean piece.

  • Is it as strong as something like this from Bunnings which has fit my needs perfectly?
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/syneco-910mm-x-2-05m-poly-insect…

Or is it less strong would you say? (The "standard" mesh gets holes from kids and cats)

Great question! Ours is made from black aluminium, which is actually stronger and more rigid than standard fibreglass/poly mesh like the one in the Bunnings link.

It holds up better against dents, waves and general wear — and being metal, it’s more resistant to tearing from things like kids or cats. That said, if your cat is a full-blown maniac, no mesh is truly safe

But in short — yes, it’s definitely stronger than standard poly mesh and yes not as easy to work with

    • My experience vs my local vandal magpie was that aluminium was worse.
Magpie put a few holes in the fibreglass, so I tried Bunnings aluminium, but he went to town on that even worse and had a 3cm hole opened up in 2 days, then every peck makes a fresh puncture.

      • Stick a Collingwood afl poster on your door might fix the problem. LOL

  • Just be aware that this is not as pliable and easy to work with as fibreglass mesh, so you will most likely be unable to press it into the grooves of regular flyscreen frames and use the rubber spline to hold it in place. I think this aluminium mesh is meant to be sandwiched between a two piece frame or stapled into place.

I've used aluminium cyclone mesh from Bunnings a few times to replace old fibreglass mesh. It still works with the normal bead, but you need to run the roller multiple times and gradually press it into the grove over many passes, otherwise the mesh will shear.

      • I have a basic security door which I would require to push into the sides of the frame with a roller.. Is this 'Aluminum Mesh' product of yours applicable or is @jolt correct? @DIYcharcat?

As jasonlv87 said, it will work but it's more effort. You may also need a narrower spline if there's a substantial difference in thickness between the old and new mesh.

          • @Ryven: okay, cool. Just haven't done this before and want to get it right..

It looks from the picture like there is some sort of white film on one side of the screen. So is this screen able to be seen through? I want to be able to see who's at my door through the security door…

            • @iLikeBargainz: It's black mesh. So yes you can see through it. Usually works better if there's a light source on the side you're looking to. So if it's daylight out you'll see out fine, at night if you have a light on you'll also see out.

If you haven't done it before, I wouldn't recommend doing this alone. You really want one or two helpers to hold the mesh tight while someone works the spline in. Also, make sure your door frame is narrow enough since it's only 76cms wide. A standard fly door is 82cms, so with allowance for the frame it should fit fine, but better to measure first than be disappointed.

  • Hi op, any miniweave deals?
