Where to Sell Gold Phone Numbers?

A while back I managed to score a few very good "Gold" phone numbers - think numbers with 4-5 digits the same (including some 8's), and even one with 7 digits the same!

I managed to "sell" a few of these on eBay, but then they cracked down on selling them there. I've tried Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree, but without any real success.

Any suggestions on where else to try and sell them?

(And yes, I'm aware that you don't 'own' phone numbers, and thus can't at least officially 'sell' them)

Wow so lucky. I would be honoured to just receive a call or spam message from this number.

        • +4

The voice I used in my head to read that is so racist. Thanks for making me racist @tenpercent.

  • +2

Tell us what the number is so we can better guess the value for you.

    • Even on the ads they don't put the actual number.

  • +47

I’m glad they banned selling it. Take your trash somewhere else. Clearly a post that belongs in the classifieds if anything. Wonder what your main account is?

    • +27

You’re really that bothered by a bloke selling phone numbers?

      • +21

I’m bothered by what’s a thinly veiled ad on a dupe account promoting his “gold” numbers on this website and hoping someone messages him with an offer.

          • +4

@jackspratt: This forum is like an ad, shouldn’t be allowed 🤮

          • +1

@jackspratt: Seems to have left a number hot and bothered. 👍

          • +1

@jackspratt: Yeah people murdering other people doesn't affect me in any way either. I should really calm down about that.

            Good logic!

        • +1

What a load of bullshit, I just tried to send him a message and it's blocked.

Thanks downvoter for that downvote, in advance. We already know it was you. haha.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: I hadn’t actually downvoted it surprisingly. I will now tho lol

            • -6

@Downvoter: Damn, I'm still trying to find out who it was that downvoted my comment about farming gold numbers. It's just a past time, especially when you have the wealth I do, you just start to play around with stuff.

But yeah, those who are reporting are wrong because the OP's PMs are turned off.

Damn, I don't know why but there is a serious link between those with gold numbers and rorting public spending programs. It probably shows some success towards the asian families and creates a sense this person is legitimate. However, it's bad for me when I am left holding the bag later as it takes me a few years of holding them just to clean them out. However, this particular one I'm holding, I haven't been able to get google to remove the number from their search results, so I still get random calls. (The rorting of creative kids voucher.)

        • +1

I like the ones that ask about something in the forum then a day or two later that same thing is up as a bargain.

  • -3

There is a market but its hard to get eyeballs unless they are ultrapremium… Try https://www.phonenumbers.net.au
but you just need to keep listing them on FB/Gumtree etc…

          • @LFO: even less possible excuse to not see the reception their messages would get!

  • +3

    Is it 0420 696 969?

    • -2

Replace the "20" with 2 different numbers, and yes, that is indeed one of the ones I have!

      • +13

That's going to drop the value.

      • +3

if the rest of your "premium gold numbers" are like that … then - you bought some "gold dust" !!!

As per a comment further up … Chinese do go for certain number series (from car license plates … to phone numbers … even flat/house numbers).
For number sequences like that - then worth posting on their respective forums.

As to to your 69 combo … instagram? social influencers?

        • +34

It's hard to sell the 69 combo because 12 year olds don't often have that much money.

      • +2

This is not a "gold" number. You have what you think is something valuable, but in fact it's beenie babies.

        • Some beenie babies are expensive

          • +6

            @mmrazz:

For example, I also have 04xy yyy yyy (7 digits the same) which I'm guessing you'll agree is indeed a 'Gold' (or better) number…

It's only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Good luck with your beanie baby collection.

          • @mmrazz: depends what y equals

I'm still farming some gold numbers, but I keep getting calls from debt collectors as the previous owner was someone who was rorting the creative kids vouchers.

    • -3

Original Downvoter, reveal yourself with a picture and I'll tell you the number and a recording of the conversation with the debt collector. If the downvotes is more than one, then the offer is invalidated.

Let's see if downvoter was the one.

I once purchased the number 04 69 69 69 69 and kept getting calls for the previous owner, his name was Willie Longstroker apparently he was in the film industry.

I hear that H Fong is looking for a new number.

    • He has ensured he wouldn’t get a single vote. 😂
I actually called their number. Which suggested to write back to an email. So did that. F! B*rd.

  • +2

    I heard the number that's worth a lot of money is 0444 444 444.

Good for keeping the spammers & scammers away supposedly?

  • +2

I hate numbers that repeat the same number. Its difficult to count whether you've input the correct number of "4"s for example. 0444444444 is way too hard.

    • I have a mobile number with 5 4's and 2 5's in it. People like to tell me it is a good number. I dunno if it is.

    • agreed its just annoying trying to tell someone your number too 😂

numbers are meant to be used in the format xxxx xxx xxx

        • +1

Guaranteed if I spoke to you my mobile as 04XY XYX ZXZ it would be more confusing than if I said 04 XYXY XZXZ.

          Ask me how I know…

    • only 8 different combinations (assuming y is not 3 or 0)

    • +1

You realise there is 1 in 7 chances of guessing your wife’s number? (because y isn’t 3 or 0 and probably not 4). I wouldn’t just put it on the internet like that.

      • I already thought of that, which is why I messed around with the numbers a bit, hint it's not a 3 after 0404 or a 0 at the end, but there are 5 consecutive numbers in a row.

  • +2

Someone is actually stealing/generating those numbers from Telcos and selling for profit? Definitely unethical and kind of illegal from Telcos point of view.

When exposed, none of the companies should employ you. Be wary of this.

  • I bought my number directly from provider for $50 couple of years ago

    0411111xyz

  • How do you legally sell a number?

    • You can't 'legally sell it' as you don't legally own it. It's like an IP, your ISP still owns it; you lease it.

You can receive a financial incentive to change who's name the contract / phone plan is in though, I guess. Nothing really stops you, unless the provider has terms against it.

When you obtain a number, you lease it from the provider, who retains ownership and must approve any transfer or sale

  • +4

    Have you got 04ozbargan by chance? (0469 227 426)

Edit: Imagine someone Googling their own phone number and coming across this lol

  • +1

Back in the days when they printed the number on pre-paid packs, I sometimes go through them when waiting in line (before self checkout), found quite a few handy numbers, like consecutive pairs, triples, packs in series (great for family members).

  • Landline? Mobile?
Usually you can resell them on the ACMA website
