If you add laser be aware what w they count. Example i got a 80w laser but classified as 10w. If it is the case won't be able to cut through much but able to make pictures, cut small paper and possible 1-2mm MDF. Doesn't really say what the output is. I got the 3018 myself. Not the pro. Built my own instead because thought too small area. Collecting dust in shed ATM. Cool things though.

    • Any comparable setups in a similar price range looking at? Or is this a decent starter?

      • Think 3018 is the startup setup. Can get them on sale on AE for around $200. They are not full metal as this. Does the trick and cnc is OK. Doesn't have the 500w spindle so don't expect wonders. I bought one and built one myself instead. Mainly use laser nowadays. Need more spindle speed in general for acrylics. Otherwise just melt and becoming a mess. Make sure to use correct router bits for material. Still learning them myself. This is not a BAD setup but to start can get a cheaper one to see if it's for you and use money to upgrade if you want. This is more a basic model and you find if getting into it you want bigger.

If just want laser can get away with old 3d printer on marketplace and slap laser on instead of 3d head.off course cabling to main board and adjustment in firmware. Or just get a new card for around $20. This is the cheap way.

        • Thanks, that's good to know. I was initially looking at one of the Yorahome units for the extensive support and fairly active FB group but price is a fair bit more.

Mainly just cutting some props for a business. Largest thing I'd need to cut/engrave is 300mm x 300mm size but also want to do some laser engraving.

Didn't realize you could attach a laser to a 3D printer.

          • @escusemay: Yes. Just need different plugs on main board and change in firmware. Think most using GRBL firmware. Especially home built ones. If searching for GRBL controllerbord on example AE they are for laser cnc or whatever. Some/most for both

            In VERY VERY simple parts
            Board
Nema motors with either timing belt or lead screws (lead screws for more precise and more common in cnc for more stability).
            Laser/cnc
            Off course cables.

Then addon example end stops, emergency stop, z limit and so on.

Hard to say as can upgrade to whatever you want. If building it you can expand on it. Be careful if using especially cnc as need to be very stable.
            Power supply
            Frame.

  • What a time to be alive tbh, these tools make creating things SO much more affordable
