Velocity Account Suspended! Been Advised That Account Is Being Investigated

Hi all, I took some points from one of the OzBargain members, and Velocity has suspended my account. I have booked a ticket using those points almost 2 months ago.

I wanted to ask if someone has ever faced a similar situation? If yes, assuming the account will be suspended and existing points will be forfeited, what happens with my existing ticket booking?

Do they cancel the booking too?

    Ask (a) Virgin?

You risked it for the biscuit. You will lose the points and the ticket. FFS

Willy Wonka sums it up perfectly

The ticket has been paid for with points already.
So those points have been used.
Hence its only what points are still on the account thats in abeyance.

Never ever transfer points. Its risky.

Better have the original owner book tickets under your name ( no need points transfer )

@mapax - urgent board meeting required for approval.

Board must be in a good mood, or about to head off for the weekend.
        Approved.

I feel honoured. Thankyou to the board and to mapax and of course to the OP for giving me this opportunity.

There is no way that they could reasonably cancel your booking. Keep going to the manage booking page and put in your flight reference number and last name to check that you can still see your flights and other details.

As for suspended account. Can you call Virgin and ask on what grounds? It might not be because of the points transfer; it may be the case that may have suspended it on account of a fraudster trying to access your account.

      Of course they can.

they can. I got cancelled once

Any airline can freely cancel a booking; you'd get a refund or in this case where points have been redeemed, nada. Yet another genius hack fails to deliver.

what happens with my existing ticket booking?

What do you expect will happen if you have been cheating their rules?

  • they can cancel your existing bookings. it depends

  • Buy some more points under a family members account and book a new ticket as a backup in case they cancel your current ticket.

    • Then what happens if op has 2 bookings??

    • +1

Waste of money. They will just cancel that ticket and probably close the relatives account as well.

So I'm going to assume it's this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/872014 which clearly states how much you transferred and how much the other had left. It's not foolproof, but stop declaring your exact transfers!

The seller had 5 post selling velocity. Pretty sure they all transfer between accounts.
Just a matter of time for red flag.

For future seller / buyer, do not transfer between accounts.
Velocity allows you to book for anyone, but only let you to transfer to family members.!!!

I lost about 600,000 Velocity points because of this. After they complete their investigation, you have 5 weeks to respond, or they simply delete your account and points. The booking should still go through.

The other person who transferred you those points will also be investigated.

    • What was the process? Is it that they give you a chance to justify what happened, and you would have to prove that the transfer was between family?

      • +1

You have to sign the stat dec. say the relationship and provide some private information like DOB of the other person

Should avoid serial sellers. Much more likely to get caught if someone is selling each month to a cousin. But once a year or every 2 years more likely to fly under radar.

    • No it doesn't. Velocity randomly picks and choose account with huge points transfer. Mine is under the radar, I had transferred after more than 15 months.

  • Why don't Velocity want people transferring or selling their points? Is it because they expect some percentage of points to remain stranded / never used, and allowing it would reduce that percentage?

    • +1

Exactly. The points have value to them, so they don't want others reducing that value. If people don't use them for flights, they either expire or they're redemeed for lower value rewards such as gift cards or similar

  • I'm looking to transfer some points from Amex to velocity to sell them on ozb - am I better to open up a brand new velocity account (still have to use my name so it matches Amex) but a once off email address and then give the details to the buyer and they can take over that particular velocity account …? Any better method as a seller and buyer?

    • I think it is a good idea
