Likely new customers only, as that's what it generally is. Can't be used to recharge. :(

    • Unfortunately not.

This is a physical sim card, not a recharge voucher. It’s for new customers only, not for existing Boost customers. If you are with Boost at the moment, you will have to port your number out to another carrier for a few days and then port it back to Boost by activating the new Boost SIM.

I believe the deals for Boost Mobile are always for the new customers

    • Doesn’t matter. If you find the right Australian Telstra employee they'll activate the voucher as a new service and then transfer your existing number to the new service.

You'll lose your voicemail configuration and messages but it works within minutes.

      • Can you please elaborate on that? Do you ask them in chat or over the phone to activate your voucher?

        • I've done it a few times, via chat. Mixed results. I had to pressure them more, recently. Some give-in, after a lecture… "good will gesture".

This time, I just used an Aldi $5 Sim. Which I now keep as my spare in a drawer

  • What is the expiry/activate by date?

    • SIM expiry date is 19/03/2027

Will move away from Boost, too expensive and not good even with 5G anyway.

It all depends on what you need/where you live/use your mobile. I have found that Boost (Telstra) gets signal when I travel around better than any other. I also take advantage of the free int'l calls frequently.

    • I just moved too to coles mobile today morning. Picked up $149 (RRP $195) / 140 GB!! Two more connections to trafer from BOOST to whatever comes cheaper from Optus MVNO. After TPG/OPTUS network sharing deal, it appears that optus signal has improved in my area. Tried with amaysim first, and Getting good signal with 100 Mbps. Good enough!!!

    • yeh after many many years I've moved from boost, I'm on catch which has been fine … saved close to $100

Boost uses Telstra’s 4G and 5G network, so is good in any area that Telstra covers.

Regional areas like mine have a token Optus, Vodafone presence, but for any remotely decent coverage you have to go with Telstra’s network.

Woolies uses Telstra 4G (not 5G), so they’re a good competitor to Boost.

Comparing Woolworths, Telstra, and Boost deals makes this a pretty compelling offer for folks who want 12mo Telstra network.

Boost uses Telstra’s 4G and 5G network, so is good in any area that Telstra covers.

I am not 100% sure if Boost use 100% of Telstra network, I can't even get signal inside supermarket of a shopping centre.

        • Same do I! My boost service is terrible, even it shows it has signal but I often can’t get data connection. I can’t wait to switch!

        • I also have trouble in my local Coles supermarket, but I understand that Telstra customers have same problem.

So, probably too many devices in that supermarket hitting the network at the same time. Next time I’ll try switching to 5G (I typically force 5G off) and see if the fewer people on that network helps.

With Boost I can definitely get signal at the edge of reception areas on regional roads the same as other Telstra users. Our phones all start chiming with new notifications at the same time. :)

I’ve been using Boost continuously for a long time. I’ve never noticed a reception difference with Telstra users except for long long ago when Telstra was doing something stupid. Now that Telstra are part owners of Boost and Boost’s usual prices (excluding sales like this) are close to Telsta’s own prepaid prices, the network coverage is identical as best as I can tell.

I see mixed reports on Telstra’s network prioritisation though, which makes a difference when network congested. Apparently for Telstra it goes Emergency sevices, Enterprise, Business, Post Paid, Pre-Paid, Wholesale/MVNO.

I don’t know how true that is. There is debate on whether Boost is treated the same as Telstra prepaid or if it’s in MVNO priority category like Woolworths etc. Boost mobile download speeds weren’t capped at 100mbps like Woolworths (that info is old tho, so I can’t confirm if still accurate)

I didn’t know about this tiered network prioritisation until 10 minutes ago, and while it probably has affected me, the cost of going to a Telstra post paid plan for higher priority is nowhere near worth it.

Telstra will let you pay $10/mo to beat network congestion even more, but only if you’re already on an upfront mobile plans (aka expensive postpaid). https://www.telstra.com.au/optimisers/mobile-speed-optimiser

Yeah boost has been underwhelming for me in Brisbane and areas around Brisbane.

          • @Salmando: given Boost is supposed to have full / same coverage as actual Telstra customers do you think this isn't the case. I've read some people saying they believe telstra may be messing with access & I was thinking of jumping from Telstra to Boost (in Brisbane)

            • @Irishness: Couldn't say as I've never had a Telstra connection up here outside of boost.

Whole it seems lacking in northern brisbane, i feel south was pretty good, and even mt glorious. I think Caboolture was fine too. Terrible on trains from Chermside onwards. Useless in glasshouse mountains, though can't recall Optus being better there.

I might give ALDI mobile a go for a bit while i find a new 365 plan - see if i notice the difference between the Telstras

              • @Salmando: yeah cheers, I switched & so far haven't noticed any real difference, if anything 5G reception might be better but really don;t think that's going to be true. The switch was quick & easy

        • 100% of the Telstra network. I carry 2 modern phones, android with boost, iPhone with Telstra. I expect to get limited service inside a few of my local Woolies/Coles, and don't need it anyway. Simple fix, walk to the front of store, if I'm apparently desperate

      Which telco is better?

IMHO they are all shit in some way or another and YMMV.

      • They finally published recently the coverage blackspot maps for the carrier's. Ignore those maps that show the broad coverage as within those there were a lot of local areas that showed the real coverage.

    • This. Been with boost on and off for the past few years in Sydney. It's really terrible these days in so many spots.

  • Waiting for the ~$190 deals to return…

      Don't hold your breath 🫁

  • @LuckyMobile On one of your other products, the title says "Sim Expiry date 11-04-2026 (Customer Expiry Date starts from the sim activation)". What does that mean? Do I have until 2026-04-11 to activate the sim? If so, what do you mean by "Customer Expiry Date starts from the sim activation"?

    • +2

Think it means if you activate on 11 Apr 2026, your prepaid plan will last till 10 Apr 2027.

  • Good timing. Bought same Sim from mobilexpress yesterday using PayPal for $239. Today got email “We regret to inform you that your recent order could not be processed due to an unauthorised transaction. As a result, we are unable to complete your purchase at this time. We kindly request you to use a different card or an alternative payment method to place a new order.”
I am not going to waste my time or giving them another credit card details. Their loss. This is even cheaper.

  • Any promo on sims for switching away and back to boost?

    • +1

Check eBay, probably pick up a Vodafone sim for around $8 or so.

      • Last year there was $2/$3 sims I remember. I dont seems to find those now.

    • +1

      Aldi, $5

      • Does it work from Current Boost > Aldi (Telstra> Lucky Boost again

        • +1

          Yes. Just did it (again)

Decisions, decisions, is it worth taking a punt on another carrier? What's that old adage, if it ain't broke don't fix it?

Coles mobile (Optus) 12 month plan - 140GB is currently on sale for $149.

If your usage is a fit for the inclusions with both Boost Mobile and Coles Mobile is it worth paying another $6.75 per month for the alleged 'legendary' Telstra retail coverage?

Less than two cups of coffee a month?

Yes, I could test the Optus coverage for a few days (Boost sale finishes 12-05-25) but that would only be a small snapshot of my usage over 12 months - decisions, decisions.

  • Any cheaper deals for the 170GB Sim? Last year I payed $180 after $50 cash back, I believe through Lucky too

  • Any deal if I bought 2?

  • I gather over the years there have been various complications in porting from Telstra postpaid to Boost prepaid. Any up-to-date wisdom?

    • same wisdom of porting to other network. ie vodafone or optus then to boost.

    • I asked a similar question to Boost having heard the transfer had to be made manually, Boost said it should be fine & read similar comments that it was a legacy issue. Will find out soon if I jump

Awaiting ~195 with cashback deal. Can’t pay so much for boost anymore!

    • +1

Ha ha… My Sim expired in Jan 2025 and the number is about to be closed if I don't give in and buy these 'new' expensive sims with (unneeded) higher data. Think I'll be getting Optus/Coles Sim.

    • It is mentioned right in the title.

  • thanks jackey

  • +2

Isn't it cheaper to buy it from their official website $255 with $42 cashback from Shopback (=$213)?

    • Maybe if you want to activate straight away. But for some of us that is not the plan.

  • Is it possible to port out to Telstra and back to Boost?

  • When is the latest that the SIM can be activated?

Is there any difference if the SIM is activated after 7 July 2025?

  • I'm getting a delivery fee still?

    • Hi there is no delivery fee if you select 'regular letter with tracking'

  • Ah missed this, any chance to extend this offer, or guess will have to wait for the next sale haha
