Boost Mobile Bad Signal in Flinders St Station

Hey Melbourniansss..

I usually go to and from Flinders St station for work.
And I realize boost mobile internet is very bad there.
Is this happening for all telstras provider?
Or is it my phone only?
Should I change to optus?

Thanks

Seeing as though you are the only person using boost at Flinders, it must be your phone

Depends on the platform. 12 and 13 are terrible, the signal gets weaker the further down you go.
Boost is full Telstra. I get crap signal on Boost in many spots around the CBD.
    iPhone 13.
Do you have dual sim/eSim option? If so, get a $10 Amaysim (Optus) and try that in areas you have trouble. That’s a payg sim with not much data, so if you want to do some serious testing using data look for a short term sim with enough data.
Friend with an old Samsung on Aldi has the same problem.
Any of the networks have their weak spots, and there is also the issue of high use areas and service can depend on users. You might test one day and it’s fine, next day everyone is maxing out their downloads and it’s crap.

    • I tried in platform 2-4 and 6-7. Both are the same.
Thanks. Will try with esim optus network.
      I use samsung s24.

There's a bajillion people using their phones at once. Despite the promises of 5G meaning a lot more people can use it, the signal is still crap when enough people are crowded together in one spot.

Even during non-peak times the signal can be quite poor on the whole loop. Always has been that way, when I used to be on Optus it was way worse, Telstra is an improvement but not perfect.

  • The covered area under Federation Square i don't get coverage, my calls are dropped. On Boost as well. fine elsewhere, such as concourse, and platforms (open air)

You work at flinders street station or just use it and leave? Because if the latter. Who cares about no internet or slow speeds for a short period of time?

  • Telstra is oversold, plus boost is low in priority (afaik its business, Telstra, boost).

I switched to Optus for this reason, Optus Optus (not mvno) works better for me and with less congestion in my experience. I heard ppl switch to Vodafone for this reason but never tried them.

  • Belong also gets bad connections around Flinders St. Although the signal for 4G shows quite a full bar, but connection is slow or non-existent, especially on the platforms that are under Flinders St station and Swanston Street itself.

Boost is supposed to be full Telstra, but I tried them out for a few months and had issues, so I went back to Telstra, and the issues stopped. Is this a coincidence? Maybe, but here we are.

  • Also with Boost and have slow connection at Flinders St. Particularly southern end of platform 10.
