5 Day Rated Ice Cooler Sale with Bonus Ice Packs Eg. 40lt $99, RRP $299 (and Others)

90

Looking for a decent esky with at least a 5 day rating (supposedly how long ice keeps) I found this site which has some decent quality ice boxes at cheaper prices than I found in outdoor shops. These are the heavy duty type with proper seals around the lids. Shipping is reasonable too.

5 day range:
40 litre $99 (6 icepacks) (similar in stores is around double that) (currently $115 delivered on ebay)
60 litre $129 (6 icepacks)
70 litre $174 (6 icepacks)
right up to 200 litre and combo deals

8 day range (stock expected on 20th)
45 litre $179 (6 icepacks) through to
110 litre

They even have some monster comercial ones up to 1100 litres for $1495! Good bulk buy deals too.

As people have stated below these prices seem to be their regular ones and sometimes they sell cheaper on ebay.

  • These eskies have a v. good reputation but are these the site's normal prices, though…? Cos if they are the normal prices you will be negged…

Techni ice is great but these are normal prices.

Keep an eye on their ebay store and you can score it for less.

I have 2 techni ice and they are great. For the price I certainly wouldn't buy anything else and even at $100 more you wont find an equivalent Esky.

They also have an ebay store where you can bid on an Esky and sometimes get it cheaper however I found their package deals on their website were better.

As stated, these are normal prices, so not a deal.

  • Thanks for the find. I would've never heard about this brand without this post, but yeah, sadly not a deal. Won't neg you though.

  • Yes, looks like these are their normal prices. Take the RRP with more than a grain of salt. Still a deal though considering what else is available. Their BuyNow prices on ebay may be worth it for some (depending on where you are) - $115 delivered for the 40 litre.

  • Had one of these for a while including the icepacks.
Whilst i have no issue with the esky itself, i don't think i've ever had the icepacks last anywhere near 5 days. (maybe that's in subzero temps without ever opening the esky lid). I usually find that with genral use (ie the esky outside, grabing a drink every now and then, in moderate temperatures) they only seem effective for around 2 days.

    • The Coleman Xtreme ones that are 5 day rated say 'Coleman’s® Xtreme® range of coolers are able to keep ice cold for up to 5 days at 32ºC' (probably without lifting the lid). Dunno if that's done according to some recognised standard. Probably means IF you never lift the lid you will still be at least 1 degree below ambient temp after 5 days. Not low enough to keep your milk from going off though.

Still must be better than the old Nylex Chilla 26 one I have now which doesn't even seem to have insulation in it. Very hard to find a good rated one that small though.

      • I bought the Coleman (Amazon deal, circa $55-65 delivered)and must say, for a non-'icebox'-type esky it performs beautifully. I've iced down a carton (indoors, qld summer) and even with going into it several times a day there was still ice and freezing cold water after 3-4 days.

Check out the "High End Cooler Test" by SportsmanGuys.com, where it was supposed to represent the "economy" option vs. "premium" eskies. It held up, even out-performed:

        • Interesting. Isn't it better to drain out the water though? Some of those are pretty heavy.

        • we use the colemans along with the techni ice packs and get through a day with them still being frozen at the end.

        • Absolutely not! Biggest esky myth, I've been told :)

Leave the water in. In fact except for grabbing a beer leave it all alone!

        • I suppose if you do it leaves more ice exposed to air which would be warmer. You might do it so as not to make stuff soggy.

    • I don't think you're meant to be using the packs by themselves. The best way to do it is freeze a couple of water blocks (use a big water/juice bottle or a microwave container) and put them on the bottom of the eski, and then put the icepacks on top of whatever you pack into it. I did this for a 7 day camping trip in the middle of summer and everything was still cold the day after I got back.

      • or maybe they last 5 days when frozen as per the website description….

"Techni Ice reusable ice packs / gel ice packs are often frozen in blast freezers to minus 80C when used in dry ice applications"

But for those who don't havea blast freezer, and dont wish to add blocks of ice aswell (which defeats the purpose IMO), and might wanna grab a few drinks throughout the day also…. don't have this 5 days claim to firmly in your mind.

But, yes apart from that claim i think they are a great product… both the esky and the techni ice.

Can't something be considered a good deal even if it's not a sale? My definition of a good deal is 'compared to what is currently generally available'.

In this case by all means point out that they sometimes sell stuff on ebay cheaper, or if they ever have cheaper prices (sales) via their web site, but I reckon the normal prices are better than anything I can find and therefore qualify as a 'deal'. I know this is the kind of thing I want to find on OzBargain.

    • Yes but imagine the amount of "good deals" that would come up if that was the case.

Typo sells great books for $10. Good deal. Regular price.

Have had one for a few years. Performs well, but the only way it would keep ice frozen for 5 days at 32c is if you filled it with a solid block of ice.
With a normal load of food and drinks and 10kg of party ice on top it lasts 3 days.
I concur you can get them a bit cheaper if you are lucky with ebay auctions.
And my 60L one is as much as one person can reasonably lift safely, so don't buy a bigger one unless you are sure you can get a friend to help move it.
The ice packs aren't anything special. They are more designed for shipping chilled food etc. and not sturdy enough for long term reuse.

  • Love that BCF ad on TV atm.

"Mate I dont need ice for another 7days…."

  • +1 for letting me know about a decent product at a decent price. Perfect timing as I've been looking at replacing the esky and thermos bottles we have. Already found the replacement for the bottles : Hydro Flask Insulated Bottles. Now will try this techni ice
