ANZ Credit Cards - New 24 Month Exclusion

Looks like ANZ have moved to a 24-month exclusion period, mirroring Westpac. They've also closed off the loophole of the FF and Rewards cards having separate exclusion periods.

Tough life for churners these days

Gone are the good old days 😭

  • Churning is over in Australia.

Let’s be real, the churners ruined it for churners.

  • absolutelyuseless. and have just changed everything over to ANZ too.

  • You'd still be able to churn though, right? ANZ for year 1, Westpac for year 2, NAB for year 3, and back to ANZ for year 4?

    • +3

There are some of us that go through all three (or more) in a year.

      • Wouldn't you be slapped with $300+ annual fees per card though?

        • They usually have special offers or existing customer discounts. Even without them it’s worth it for the points imo.

        • +1

Surely if you’re aware what churning is, you’re also aware that a lot of them offer pro rata refunds for annual fees?

          • @eccaz: That probably over as well. Pretty hard to ask refund now -already asked Citibank, ANZ and NAB in last 12 months.

            • @timhn: were you successful with those? Never tried to ask for pro rata refund….doh

              • @jobargain: ANZ refused my requested but approved my wife when asked 3 months later on the same CC type. The others just flat out refused.

Previously, no problem when requested for refund.

            • @timhn: I’ve always gotten a refund from ANZ, and have never gotten one from NAB or Citi.

        • I probably pay over $1.5k in fees a year.

  • Well, this card is with $425 fee … better this 24 limit to stay a while so bank can have less 'customers' and drop the requirements + fees.

  • I applied an ANZ card before they changed the T&C.. hasn't been approved yet though.. will it apply the new T&C instead??

    • Hopefully you took screenshots of the T&Cs when you applied. But the old terms should apply for you

      • waiting for a phone call or response from the CC assessment team about it. fingers crossed.

        • probably find the Ts&Cs are 'subject to change'

    • I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further

    • called ANZ, they investigated and they said normally current T&C would apply after a card is approved
but because when I applied it still had the old T&C, they can apply the bonus points manually to my card by calling them once my card is approved
      fingers crossed

      • Interesting. I applied on 01/05/25 when the terms still said 12 months. I called ANZ today, the person on the phone said because it wasn’t approved until the 05/05/2024 it would follow the 24 month period. I asked them to verify if that’s the case, as how could the terms change without any notification given to a customer that the bonus would not be applied.

        • The person couldnt give me recording of the phone call, but gave me the reference number for the next person to review which has the transcript.

Are you going to end up just cancelling the card upon receiving it?

          • @gembel: They said they will email another team to confirm and then give me a call back in 1-2 business days…. I’ll update here if I hear from them. If I don’t hear anything I’ll call to cancel the card without activating it.

            • @Jimmy89o: My card just got approved now
I applied 29th April, when it was still on the old terms.
I'll give them a call now to get them to apply the bonus offers to my card as per yesterday's phone call
Fingers crossed they will honour it.. otherwise will just have to cancel the card

            • @Jimmy89o: Have you heard anything back from ANZ?

              • @gembel: @gembel no nothing yet. If I don’t hear by Monday I’ll try calling again and if no luck I guess cancel the card without activating it.

I guess it’s time to stop using credit cards, even paid off ones.

    • +1

Why? You still have to spend money so may as well get something back even the benefits now less than before.

    • There’s no need to throw the baby out with the shower water.
