There is just no way to reconcile the idea of nonstick and not ingesting some sketchy shit that makes it so

    • +1

      carcinogens are so delicious though

    • +1

but this is french made sketchy shit.
      bon appetit!

    • I recently went down this rabbit hole.

      Settled on this https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07Z4NS35R

Three layers of stainless steel instead of aluminum…or two layers of stainless steel surrounding aluminum core that might still leech through.

Non stick coating is at least PFOS/PFOA free.

I've had something similar to this before, a ceramic coated stainless steel pan that even looks exactly the same as this one, they lose the non stick properties after the first time you put it to a medium high heat

      • It's large group of lab-made chemicals

    • -1

      nonstick and not ingesting

      It's titanium.

    • +6

at this stage, i think my body has had enough that all the nasty nonstick stuff can no longer stick inside

      • Titanium is non-toxic even in large doses and does not play any natural role inside the human body.

        • Even if I'm ROBOCOP?

  • +1

i'm sure the coating is soooooo safe

    • -2

I hear ya but surely if it wasn't then they wouldn't be for sale?

  • +4

I don't recommend it the handle breaks pretty fast

  • +1

the way they show they stacked on top of each other - would the bottom of the pan scratch the non-stick of the pan it's sitting in?

  • Note that Titanium has been linked to Yellow nail syndrome

Better than Yellowstone. Stan got that.

  • last week picked up this from costco. https://www.costco.com.au/c/Henckels-Paradigm-Skillet-3-Piec…
How is it compared to tefal ngenio Ultimate or Unlimited?

I bought some higher end Tefal frypans about 6 months ago… they are absolute trash! Strongly recommend going with another brand.

I babied the things, gentle hand-wash only, mindful heating, only wooden utensils, etc. But they discoloured quickly, the red 'temperature indicator' dot went darker and darker and finally became equally as black as the rest of the pan and is now indistinguishable, etc.

I had a Myer brand (Vue?) nonstick frypan for about 7 years prior to this (and prior to me knowing about not keeping non-stick pans for so long!) that was in better condition at the end of its life than these terrible pans are after half a year. And it's all three sizes I bought in the same kit.

      Same here.
I contacted customer support about the problem and they said it was user error. I said that isn't right as we followed all the steps. They once again replied saying that it can't be true as their product is really good. They ended saying that they will not replace under warranty because it was user error.
Suffice to say, we threw it out and we are never going back to tefal. The bloody thing warped.

We've since explored carbon steel and although there's a bit of babying it for the first few weeks, its coming along nicely with its coating.

      • Any particular brand/model you can recommend?

        • +1

Carbon steel? There was a few on Amazon, but in the end my wife grabbed it off taobao.
DM me if you want specifics - happy to share.

I suggest you watch Netflix Dark Waters before you buy these types of pans. Personally I am replacing all my similar types of pans with stainless steel.

    • That is about PFOA though.

    • Doco: How to Poison a Planet.

    • -1

You should probably stop drinking water also, as that is supposedly littered with micro-plastics.

  • +1

For a few more dollars you can can the 4pcs with stainless finish https://www.amazon.com.au/Tefal-Non-stick-%E2%80%8EL897S474-…

  • Some deals at Big W too

  • Buy copper based stainless steel (eg Essteele Per Vita range) and never look back.

  • +1

We've got these, from a Big W clearance a few months back. The removable handle has a rubber-type grip that clamps on to the edge of the pans, and you'd think it was silicone or something, however when used on a cooktop at high heat, the rubber grip part gives off a burning rubber/plastic/chemical smell (not pleasant), and after a few months use, the rubbery bit is softer and appears slightly melted. I don't recommend.
