This is a truly excellent, simple, AM FM radio and is the lowest I have seen this for model.

Has a large speaker - really decent volume and tone. Stable tuning pulls in far off signals. Yes, you can stream off your phone and yes, you can buy cheaper radios but probably about the best portable radio that I have heard. Amazon reviews tell the story! Also useful for power outages or zombie apocalypse.

Can plug it in with 240 or takes 4 x AA batteries

Wow this hasn't changed since the early 2000s. I still have one from that period in case of cordyceps taking over

    • Yes still has that late 90's/ early 2000's design vibe. I think they may have updated it internally - is all digital despite the very analog looks.
      That big speaker sounds good!

  • Retro radio for retro high price?
Likely to come off a Hon Hai production line for a couple of dollars. Generally get DAB+ included for half price.

  • Confused about the high price…. $50+ for a radio?!

It's about quality. Sound is much better than usual tinny radios. Have a read of the Amazon reviews. They tell the story
RRP is $80 and usual street price is $69 or so.

      • Assuming you have one of these, can you tell me, if the radio is on and the power goes out, using a smart plug, when the power comes back on, will the radio still be playing or do you have to then manually turn it back on again ?

        • +2

Yes it will. Controls are totally manual

        Thanks for the reply.

Ha, that's funny, click on link
"Temporarily out of stock. We are working hard to be back in stock as soon as possible"

Private tab and there it is $58, Amazon are such lying bastards.

Back then Amazon would ship the item interstate and you could buy it so long as there is stock somewhere in the country.

Nowadays Amazon won't ship it to you if it's too far from the fulfilment centre or if it's too costly for them to send it, so for many customers living in rural areas there will be a large quantity of items that will show out of stock (even though they pay a Prime subscription).

We're all becoming a bit wiser to the ways of Amazon..

It's obviously deceptive conduct, but not deceptive enough to trigger the consumer protection laws apparently.

i'm still rocking my $29 Dick Smith Sangean :)

    • I am jealous man - that is one OzBargain deal I missed and never forgot!

Hehhehe mines in the kitchen doing radio and clock duties. Amazing deal and a great radio. It still gives me such joy

  • Made in Singapore I think.

I still use a couple of these AWA Internet and DAB+ $40 every day, wished I bought more!
Chuck on any channel you like, local FM, stream Double J or Hot 108 Jamz from New York, whatever/wherever you want. I've never found anything like it since.

    • Lucky you living in Port Maquarie.

  • How do you stream off your phone?

  • If you are after one for power outages etc, this is probably a more suitable choice: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0756S4BM7
2xAA instead of 4 and seemingly same tuner.
