AmEx Explorer Card: 95,000 Bonus Points ($4,000 Spend in 3 Months), $400 Travel Credit, $395 Annual Fee @ AmEx via Point Hacks

141

Slightly lower than some of the 100k bonuses we've seen in the past.

Available via Point Hacks (but not via referral or on the Amex website it seems).

Points can be transferred to multiple airlines including Virgin Australia, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

The transfer ratio is 2:1 for many airlines (but sadly 3:1 for Singapore).

The card comes with a $400 travel credit that can be used to book flights or hotels at Amex Travel.

It also offers travel insurance and smartphone screen insurance.

There are also two lounge passes each year when travelling from Sydney or Mel overseas.

Hope this helps anyone who's also been waiting to apply for this card.

Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this introductory bonus offer. Previous and existing bank-issued American Express companion cardholders are eligible for this offer.

I'm seeing 110,000 points on the Amex website.

    • And you will lose the targeted 110,000 offer after you viewed this offer through Point Hacks.

      • I checked Amex first.

    They rejected me 😞

      John West ?

  • I applied last week and rang Amex CS to find out that my application has been cancelled. Reason being they can’t find my credit report from Equifax. I contacted Equifax for a free credit report, and surprise they’ve got my name spelling wrong in the report.

Did you tell them it was Unacceptable?

    $395 Annual Fee

    Deal breaker…

    • It makes up for it with the travel credit, insurance, longue passes and points. The phone screen repair is a bonus if you happen to use it.

Not really, I can purchase travel way cheaper elsewhere and insurance in free with my current credit cards.

I have no idea what a longue is ????

        • Longue = Happy ending

        • insurance in free with my current credit cards.

I have no idea what that means ????

        • You would be surprised. The hotel collection can end up pretty cost effective if you already plan to stay at one of those hotels.

And I have found that amex is pretty close to the same price as most of the aggregators.

You aren't exactly paying a $100 premium on a similar flight or hotel stay. So at worst I would say if you plan to travel and spend about $400 on some level of accommodation or flights the actual "fee" is under $100 for 95k amex points plus the other benefits. Probably closer to $50 tbh and the amex hotel collection and be pretty good value.

FWIW, there is 110,000 bonus points offer on Amex website and on Amex app. Using a referral is also 110,00 points, whilst giving the referrer 40,000 bonus points.

    • Im only seeing 75k via referral

      • On my Amex login, it shows 110,000 for referee, and 40,000 for referrer. May be different for others?

      • Keep trying with the referral link. I got on the 4th time 110000 points deal. There is a yellow banner on the top as well stating "Don’t miss your special referral offer" as well.

  • I'm getting 75K :/ must not be using Safari to get the 110k that some others are getting :D

Just curious what do you use Amex on these days, most places dont appear to accept amex…. or I'm not frequenting places that offer Amex as a payment.

    • We still use Amex - just not directly

      • Teach me wise, sir. How do you indirectly use Amex?
