[Possible Price Error] Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Compact Hammer Drill Kit $149 @ Bunnings

41

I think I found a pricing error.

Was looking to buy my first drill and was considering an Ozito hammer drill. Noticed Ozito's batteries aren't cheap and eventually noticed something strange in Ryobi's pricing:

Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Brushless Compact Hammer Drill - Skin Only @ $169
https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-compa…

Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Compact Hammer Drill Kit (incl. 4.0Ah battery and charger) @ $149
https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-compact-hammer-…

Hammer drill with battery and charger is $20 cheaper than drill by itself??

(I dived into Ryobi's manuals and confirmed that it's the same drill model)

For comparison, the non-HP Compact hammer drill kit is also $149

Let me know what you guys think.

    I dont think so

    • I'm not saying that it's a sudden pricing error. I'm just saying that the pricing makes no sense.

That happens a lot. Bundle or kit are sometimes get cheaper than skin only. But it's normal, good find though

        • -1

          Seriously? That's pretty crazy. Lol

          • +1

@prophet: You just found it, its good.

  • Pretty normal for Bunnings to do this when a new model is coming.

Ryobi are ok..ish. I've been given a few dead batteries to grab a couple of cells out of. I actually prefer the Ozito (Einhell manufactured).

That being said, as long as the drill has a 13mm chuck or bigger, with a 4.0 AH battery…and you may consider other Ryobi tools.. Go for it.

    • Recently i am having lots of problems with Ryobi products. Not sure why the quality has dropped, too flimsy

    • I think the pricing is set by Ryobi. Same pricing on official website.

What do you like about Ozito relative to Ryobi? Quality? I've frequently read that Ryobi's slightly better than Ozito.

I havent had an Ozito die yet…and I had a solar installer turn up with an old Ozito SDS (grey). It had a hard life… was still trucking. He loved it.

Same price…I'd go the Ozito. If the Ryobi is cheaper, it should be ok. But they are starting to use plastic internally a lot (used to be metal).
I wasn't impressed the chainsaws hold the bar with a small plastic tab…which snapped on me mid cut. Drills…i'm not sure.

        • Sounds like Ryobi is the new cheap tool then.. lol. Which I would still get.

Bunnings staffer asked me to consider a Makita as my first drill which is 4x the price…

          • @prophet: Ive got a Makita, Ozito, Aldi, Milwaulkee.. all about the same.. Makita 'maybe' will pull up better if dropped off a roof…dunno.

I've also got a brushless SCA drill - that is nasty.

Got a $3k Hilti… absolute brute. If dropped off a roof…the ground will break.

      • Same pricing on official website.

So you admit that it's the normal price but posted it as a price error anyway?

        • +1

I wrote “possible” price error. It’s possible for an official site to make mistakes.

You’re pretty full on with all your comments, hey?

Its look like normal price to me.

Hammer drill with battery and charger is $20 cheaper than drill by itself??

    Yes, that’s usually how a bundle works…

    • +1

Aren't bundles usually cheaper than buying the products separately? This is cheaper if you buy the kit and throw away the battery and charger. Like no one should ever buy the skin only.

      • -1

What? Your comment makes no sense.

Do you know the definition of 'bundle'?

Aren't bundles usually cheaper than buying the products separately?

Yes, and it is in this case. The Ryobi kit with the skin, charger and battery is a 'bundle'.

This is cheaper if you buy the kit and throw away the battery and charger. Like no one should ever buy the skin only.

Correct. You basically said the same thing in your previous sentence.

        • +1

I suppose I’m only familiar with bundles that offer a slight discount over buying items separately.

Eg. Drill is $100 and battery is $30. Bundle is $110 (you get a discount, but if you didn’t want the battery it’s cheaper to get the drill by itself).

I’m not familiar with bundles where the final price is even cheaper than the individual items.

Eg. Drill is $100 and battery is $30. Bundle is $80 (so even if you don’t want the battery you should still buy the bundle).

          • +1

@prophet: Yes, Bunnings' bundles usually work like you said. But sometimes it's like the case in your post. A few months ago I bought a DeWalt bundle from Bunnings, which was about 5% cheaper than the skin alone.
Not sure why many down voted you. Maybe because you thought it's a price error.
            It's not an error, it's a deal.

Ozito isnt cheap? Might want to recheck that

Their drills start at 49 bucks all the way to 99 for brushless hammer

    3 4ah batteries for 99 bucks.

Also that hammer drill deal from december still available btw. Just not listed on the website. U have to check individual stores

Grabbed the brushless hammer drill for 50 bucks yesterday plus 4 batteries. Still cheaper than this

  • How the hell did you come up with "Ozito's batteries aren't cheap"

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-18v-ultimate-4-battery…

    2 x 18V 2.5Ah Li-Ion Battery
    2 x 18V 4.0ah Li-Ion Battery
    2 x Compact Fast Chargers
    $129

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-4-0ah-battery-twin…

    Ryobi 18V ONE+ 4.0Ah Battery - Twin Pack
    $199

Genuinely curious how you came to that copnclusion?

    • I was looking to just buy one 4.0Ah battery and charger because that’s all I need for now. Ozito doesn’t sell a “starter” drill kit that included them and I had enough analysis paralysis as it was..

I hadn’t looked into battery multipacks. Looks like Ozito is much cheaper when you want lots of batteries. Thanks for highlighting that.

Now I wonder if I should buy into the Ozito ecosystem instead.. thoughts?

Aussie engineering (Ozito) vs Japanese engineering (Ryobi)

        • Not sure if I’m suppose to be excited by Aussie engineering..

        • pretty sure ozito is german? EInhell

neither are professional tools. so opinions are irrelevant. For DIY both are good enough

          just keep ur receipt

ozito is less than 100 bucks. i have spent more on less and not worried about longevity

Just in time for Mothers Day!

  • According to previous Ozb posts previous RRP was $159 and usually was on special for $135.
Looks like now the deal it's $149.
