  • Are any of these skins brushless? Can't see the individual model numbers.

    • +2

      Ozito site says

      18V 13mm drill driver & 18V impact driver
      18V 165mm circular saw & 18V 115mm angle grinder
      18V Detail Sander
      1 x 4.0Ah Battery & 1 x 2.5Ah Battery included
1 x Compact Fast Charger included

      So I would say not

    • +2

Very unlikely. Given the other similar kits are not

    • what’s the difference?

      • +3

Power tools (or anything with an electric motor) that aren't brushless will eventually stop working (can be several years before they die depending on use) and will then subsequently need new carbon brushes (or replacement of the motor). My dad's DeWalt battery blower recently needed new brushes so I replaced the motor for him (the motor only cost $20). Replacement brushes and motors aren't costly, but it is a hassle when you eventually need to replace them. Hence, brushless tools are preferred.

        • +2

But with brushless tool, you have to deal with dead controller and they're not cheap. I got a few tools with dead controllers and couldn't even find replacement.

            • @Lizard Spock: Yes, and you can't fix it either as they epoxy everything in.

      • +3

I remember when power tools came with spare brushes included.

        • +1

I purchased a diamond core drill and it came with 2 spare brushes. Some brands still include them.

        • +10

They still do. But by the time you need to replace them. Can't remember anymore where the hell you put them.

        • Tegridy remembers..

        • -1

That was probably during a time where they didn't last nearly as long as they do in modern power tools.

      • +5

you aren't buying ozito for work, you buy it for occasional diy work. non brushless makes it cheaper and not as powerful as a brushless, but that doesn't matter because you will be using it occasionally anyways. it will be more then sufficient to take care of the job that you are trying to do. brushless is better and more powerful, but it also makes it more expensive. if you want to invest in brushless, i would just upgrade to makita.

    • no they are not

you have to get the explicitly labelled Brushless ones at $99 each

  • +1

Not bad, if you can find any in stock the 5 pack of XU1 (drill impact saw recip grinder) is $199 with battery and charger if you aren't concerned with quality and just need el cheapo

    • +3

As a second set of drivers, I actually like the XU1. Smaller and lighter tools, which is great for working overhead or smaller spaces.

    • +2

My local store stopped selling this set a while back and I just happened the be there when the last one was sitting on the tool shop bench. Snapped it up for $50 and gave it to my son so he had his own beginner set. Now he's working and has a healthy bank account he's deciding what system he wants to buy into. But he still uses his XU1's when the occasion calls for it. He only uses my PXC stuff when he needs a tool he doesn't yet have.

    • are xu1 batteries compatible with ozito? or are there adapters?

  • +1

Only need skins. Gimme skins only.

    • +1

      Sell the batteries?

    • No.

    • +1

Mate, you're hallucinating worse than GPT from 2022.

      • do they come with iOT smart home features? Can i turn on my drill using Home assistant?

  • +1

This is an excellent starter kit.

The brushless versions of each of these are, as expected, lower power but the value overall is brilliant - if you only need a saw or grinder occasionally (you know, for the rare midnight padlock cut) then this is great.

    • +3

Yeah good price to start with but if not needing them all, each individual can be found ~$50 when on sale except the grinder, $80.

      • +1

Agree. Some tools in the combo are SHRINKEN versions not the standard ones but they are in the kit so you have to pay for everything. For DIYers $269 is not that good price if you find this or that one better be more powerful.

  • just an fyi, that saw really sucks and has no balls to even cut paper. i tried to cut a thin piece of wood, and it won't cut all the way through. i have to cut from the other side just to finish the cut. i upgraded to a better blade, and still the same thing. the saw is absolutely useless. the rest of the kit is fine. grinder you have to take your time, you can't put too much pressure on it or it will stop.

    • Interesting. Do you know if the base Ryobi equivalents for saw and angle grinder are much better?

      • +1

maybe slightly better, but its on par with ozito. ozito has other saws that are better, but these are just starter tools that aren't really made for serious work.

    • I've had this kit for years and find the saw has plenty of power, just make sure you use it with the included 4ah battery.

    • +1

Check that your saw base and blade are parallel. I couldn't even cut a straight line with a straight edge and it kept dragging pulling away from the guide, measured it and the blade is out 2mm from front to back. This can also cause binding and the safety cutoff would activate. Saying that though it does alright in cutting softer material with a bluemak blade for me

    • what size battery did you use for the saw?

i was checking for this very problem you mentioned. i think someone said the 4ah or higher battery with thinner or better blade solves the problem

    • Ive been using this for a few years and have cut hard, soft wood and everything in between. Never had an issue. Still havent changed the blade but use 4mah battery

      • morning wood?

        • Sub sp. Mornicus Robustus

        • If that's what you're into..then sure!

    • I own this saw and have had no problem sawing through 45mm timber, sounds like you have a dud or just exaggerating.

    • I echo this, the saw has been a real issue even with a 4.0ah battery, I don't think the issue is the power it might be a very sensitive safety switch tripping at the slightest stop but mine has never been good.

  • Dam none near the GC :(

    • +1

      Nerang has 12?

      • +1

Lmao thank you. Need to select Qld from the drop down…..

  • This or Ryobi?

    • Yes

    • +2

Seems like this if you want something cheap for small jobs and Ryobi if you want something a bit higher quality
