For anyone looking for good value, BigW is selling the PS2 console for just $128.00.

I know there are some other bargains with bundled games etc. but I thought this was good value for a unit on its own without any other gimmicks. Ends on X-Mas Eve.

Same catalogue has the MamaMia DVD for just $24 which is a good price too.

Any price is to much for a 7 year old console. PS2 really needs to hurry up and die.

Extra $100 you can get a 360, seriously who would buy such dated tech.

Not sure I really agree with you here PainToad - although I see you point on the falling price of the 360.

The PS2 console has heaps of support with games, particularly second hand games. I've got a couple of kids who love buying new games - we go to EB and grab 3 games for $50 (albeit they are trade ins). Also, a lot of the platinum games are available dirt cheap. I am by not means an expert on games consoles, but the PS2 platform still has a place in my home.

I agree in many respects.. especially with the $100 extra for an Xbox360. So much more versatile, games can be had at bargain prices for 360 (not just for the PS2), and it can be used for chat with friends and as a front end for media playback of music and video from a computer or hard drive.

BUT PS2 is still a good console..

If you're running on an extreme budget, you can still get new release games on PS2 and it does a pretty decent job.

    • I agree completely.
But, then, when PS2 was not outdated, I really loved it!
      So, a good deal.
I still have some games which were never opened;-)

Give me PS3 any day- the additional features , like 1080P full HD output and BD live.

  • still too much. should be $99 max

  • i voted +… still good. also u can get picencoredted games for only AU$2.00 somewhere - pls dont ask me. LOL

    • picencoredted?

        • ARRRRRRRRRRRR.

          Very cheap.. nice find.

    Also, also…
I'm sure I'm not the only parent who's darling child has managed to kill their PS2 after a few years,, with a library of MANY $100 of PS2 games + extra controllers + steering wheel et cetera accumulated over numerous birthdays and Christmases.
So, do you abandon the collection of PS2 games and surrender to "The Dark Side" empire of the MS Xbox; or "upgrade" to PS3; or get a cheap replacement "naked" PS2???

I hear you. My 2 year old boy loves nothing more than to upset his big sister by pulling the PS2 cables and knocking the console about. Thankfully its quite a robust unit but when it breaks (not if!) I'll buy another.

ps2 is still getting new games built for it which makes it one of the best consoles in terms of life.
also ps2s are selling more new consoles then ps3s world wide so theres still a big market for them.
Xbox and gamecube on the other hand have nothing new coming out for them.
i will get one for when my current ones laser dies.

Kmart also has PS2's for $99 but you have to but SingStar at the same time. Might work out better for some if you were planning on getting sing star anyway.

  • You might want to check this before considering an XBow 360 (they can destroy disks if tilted) :
    http://www.smh.com.au/news/digital-life/games/articles/micro…

    • Anyone who is tilting their console when a disk is spinning inside deserves scratched disks..
Seriously, how often do you need to tilt your console??

      • Whenever you're near a windmill?,,, Don Quixote…
        [ :- { )

    • When you open an Xbox 360 pack, there is a massive sign saying not to tilt your Xbox when you're playing a game or a disc is moving.

I've certainly stuck to that and not had a scratched disk.

But for others, it's been scratching them even if they hadn't tilted the Xbox, so that's kinda bad.
