Fewer Amino Z Whey Sales in 2025?

Just wanted to share something I found out recently for those of us who regularly stock up on Amino Z whey protein during their sales.

I reached out to them about when the next deal might drop, and here's part of the response I got:

"To be completely transparent, it is extremely likely that we may not be able to run another whey deal in early to mid-2025. While we do typically do a deal every 3–4 months, given the very challenging supply situation, it is quite possible that the Boxing Day deal we had in December 2024 may be the last OzBargain deal for a while."

I'm all out of protein :(

I’m out too and I’ve been waiting for their next deal to stock up, thanks for the heads up, without their deals they’re too expensive but have definitely taken advantage of their deals in the past and like their product

    • I've been waiting too, though, looking at 1kg WPI from nearly over 15+ brands in Australia, around $60 is the going rate these days. Crazy

I agree it's too expensive at normal times

  • We beat inflation and economy is hunky dory now
    SOFT LANDING !

  • Maybe start using a cheaper form of protein. Like sticking a few chicken breasts in your pocket whenever you go to Coles.

I agree, wish they ran another wpi sale.

I have seen Myprotein go down to $32/kg. But average close to 40ish. should have pulled the trigger.
With these prices I can't justify buying wpi.

  • Looks like they removed some other bulk buy discounts as well. They used to have a 3kg option (3x1kg bags) that was cheaper than buying 3x1kg for something i buy but that no longer exists.

  • Was waiting for a promo, now bulk nutrients just emailed advising they are raising price tomorrow for wpi

  • And club z membership is over too :’( just made an order using all my remaining points. But yeah at the current price, unlikely can continue to support them.

Might buy once in a blue moon if there’s a flavour I’m really interested in. But tbh, lately I’ve been happy with just a vanilla flavour from most brands, as its versatile enough to be mixed with other ingredients for various smoothies or food recipes

    Hi Everyone,

Sorry I just only stumbled across this topic, but I wanted to provide some insights in addition to the last key update I posted in May.

In relation to protein raw material pricing, it has not really changed in the last couple of months. As I mentioned in the prior discussion thread, even if there is a drop in wholesale ingredient pricing, this likely would not filter through to retail pricing for at least 6 months. We are instead seeing a number of retail price increases across the entire industry (several of which have been mentioned in this thread). Of course there may always be unforeseen circumstances which may trigger a sudden price change, but this is based on what I currently understand.

WPI continues to be the greatest product impacted by this. WPC has also been affected. Although we don't currently have a WPC product, there have been price increases on WPC products from our competitors for this reason.

I also don't know whether we will ever see pricing drop below the more typical $60 range for 1kg of WPI. Pricing may fall eventually, but demand for WPI is still very high while supply has not yet caught up.

Given the current conditions, we have no firm plans in the near future to run another WPI sale. I would love to, but without tanking the business, I'm afraid that we cannot possibly put together a deal that resembles anything like what we have previously done. Rather than doing a mediocre deal that would resemble more of an ad than a deal, we have decided to hold off completely until we are in the position to actually offer something of great value.

Given the sharp rise in WPI, we are working on a lower cost protein alternative. This will not be a straight WPI. This is still a work in progress and we do not yet have a firm launch date on this.

Also @John, I'm sorry about the discontinuation of Club Z. This was an extremely tough decision that we have been deliberating over all year and we had to pull the trigger on last week. I do greatly appreciate your support to date and fully understand that once your membership ends, with the removal of the additional discounts, free shipping and bonus Z Points, this may not represent the same value to you that we have offered previously. To avoid any confusion, once your membership ends, you won't lose any existing Z Points, you just won't accumulate Z Points at the same rate. Thank you again for the support as a Club Z member.

I hope this is helpful and as always I (and the team) really appreciate all the support we have received (and continue to receive).

    Jay

    • Thanks Jay. Absolutely love your transparency and the fact that you guys are always pushing the boundaries, especially with your WPI flavour options. That gives you guys a competitive edge for sure and is probably the main reason why I still intend to be buying in future. I'm keen on the Vietnamese Iced Coffee flavour!

I would say a free shipping sale would still be appreciated every now and then, if that is something you guys can do. I personally find it easier to justify smaller purchases without worrying about shipping, instead of $129 in one hit. That was probably the biggest benefit I was drawn to with the Club Z.

Anyway, wishing you guys the best and keep up the great work!

Thanks @John, that's great feedback and I certainly get where you're coming from with the shipping. This is something we will certainly take on board.

On the other note, we do have a long list of new flavours in the pipeline that we are super excited about.

Thanks again for the support and understanding with Club Z going away. I am extremely appreciative!

    • Hey Jay - totally understand and appreciate your latest update.

As someone who enjoys trying out the new flavours, any chance you'll consider a reduced add-on fee for larger orders where you currently add $5 per kg?
(Also, matcha green tea ice cream used to be a regular order but that $5 extra also seems to be new for this flavour too?)

      • @Unorthodox thanks for asking and I greatly appreciate your understanding.

We do have certain flavours that are the extra $5 per kg. We have restricted it to certain lines only, but this will include Matcha as Matcha has jumped in price recently.

The higher price point are usually a result of (1) the additional cost of ingredients that are going into them and/or (2) the additional processing required to produce and/or (3) the additional investment into developing them.

Matcha, for example, does attract a much higher raw material price than a vanilla due to the actual matcha we use in it (it's not just flavouring).

Another example is with the Cookies & Cream. This product attracts an additional process when manufacturing because we do actually use cookies to enhance the flavour (as opposed to just a "cookie" flavour).

In terms of product development, with the more typical flavours (eg. Vanilla), most flavour houses will have many variations of vanilla already developed. So it's relatively easy for us to obtain samples and tweak to our requirements. In contrast to this, we just released a Hojicha Latte flavoured WPI, which is very novel for the Australian market. This flavour took a very long time for us to develop and source all the right ingredients (including the tea itself from Japan).

So I know this is a long-winded response, but to be completely transparent, it's unlikely that these flavours will go down in price. That is, unless we do see a decrease in pricing for materials or ingredients.

I hope this provides some insight. Thanks as always for the support and interest and please don't hesitate to reach out should you have more questions.

        Jay

        • Thanks Jay, appreciate the response!

It might just be me feeling it's a bit disappointing as my last 3 orders were of the new tea varieties and seeing each 3-5kg order add +$5, +$5 +$5 for each drop down

          • @Unorthodox: Thanks @Unorthodox.

We'll certainly take that feedback on board. I agree it's not a great experience expecting one price and then having unforeseen addons. I'll discuss this further with our team.

            I really appreciate that feedback.

  • Club Z now gone, 30 month member :(

Thanks so much for the support @jrr125, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for being a member for almost 3 years.

This was not a decision we made lightly and is something we have been deliberating over all year. I am sorry we had to remove it as I do appreciate that it did offer significant savings.

We ultimately had to remove it for three key reasons as outlined in the email (moving to a more consistent pricing model, being hit with increased shipping costs and the new website development). I completely understand that this is disappointing as such a long-term customer of ours.

So you're aware, you won't lose any of the accumulated Z Points. A few customers have been confused about this.

Thank you again for all the support.

      Jay

  • They launched their cheaper new WPC blend product today called Signature at the old price for WPI and bumped up the price of WPI to 67, but reduced the $5 additional for premium flavours like Matcha.

Hopefully this a positive sign thay they are preparing for an upcoming sale for the Signature product lineup.

Hi @kikidoyouloveme, we did make some changes this week as noted above.

All WPI pricing has now changed, while simultaneously removing those $5 flavour premiums.

We received some super helpful feedback around the premium charges (including above in this discussion thread) which did spark of a lot of internal discussion. I completely get that this caused a lot of confusion and lacked transparency, which are both key reasons why we abolished those $5 premiums.

We did (finally) release our new protein (Signature Protein), which is a WPC/WPI blend at a slightly lower price point than the prior WPI price. Currently there are four flavours available, but we have many more lined up for release later this year.

In terms of our next deal, the ingredient price of WPI continues to be an incredibly challenging aspect to us crafting a new offer. There have recently been some very aggressive offers here on OzBargain which, to be completely transparent, we are unable to compete with on price directly with our WPI.

I feel that it is very important for us not to launch a substandard deal on this platform. We do plan on launching our next deal once we are again in a position to offer exceptional value. When this is exactly, I cannot confirm as whey pricing continues to be all over the place.

I know I also speak for the rest of the team when I say that we are all exceptionally grateful for all the support we have received (and continue to receive) for our business.

      Jay

      • Thanks for your transparency. Unfortunately for my wallet, my taste has gotten addicted to your variety of flavours. Looking forward to trying the new Signature combos

        • Thanks so much for the ongoing support! I hope you enjoy the new protein too :)

          Jay
