Jaaaaanky and slow, with horrible U.I., but might come in handy.

Why? There’s countless free options online that don’t require installing yet another app.

macOS and iPhones have QR Code generation built in so you don’t need to be exposing your data to any app or website. https://education.apple.com/resource/250011714

Just because an app is supposedly discounted to “free”, doesn’t mean it’s a bargain.

    • I agree with you, but we must admit that this app is much easier for the average user to use and has more options

    • They need your business details and then all the loan companies will chase you to provide loans. 🤣

I wouldn’t trust this to download on my phone

What can happen with QR creation services, is they'll make redirects for you using their domain, and then they'll basically ransom you to keep your QR links working. I'm not saying that this company is doing this, but if you are relying on any QR codes you create in promotional material that will be costly to update/redistribute later, make sure you trust the service you use.

Decode the QR yourself and make sure it scans directly as your domain…? https://qr-weld-gamma.vercel.app/qrdecode.html

If you produce material with a QR code without ensuring it's not a redirect first, that's on you / the company lol

I doubt they're doing that here, but still QR code creators are free without the need for a dodgy app; the one above has a web based JavaScript creator too (with logo support)

    • To be fair, this app scans to your link directly

  • I don’t trust it. So for those reasons I’m out.

Creating QR codes is free… Free alternative linked below, as such, negging

    With logo support: https://qr-weld-gamma.vercel.app/index.html
    Without a logo: https://qr-weld-gamma.vercel.app/qrencode.html

This took under a minute to setup on Vercel after forking a public Git; there's so many free alternatives available. Webbased, so no dodgy app required (all JavaScript).

Credits: https://github.com/kaarposoft/qrlogo (I simply moved it to Vercel and added OzBargain example QR codes).

    • Correct me if I'm wrong but all yours does is put text into a QR code. Correct? There's no other options such as email generator etc.

I don't think I understand - what are you after?

ALL qr codes are simply text-based, if it's an 'email generator' the text is simple the email?\

Edit: Yep, it's just text for 'email generator' QR codes, use the below format:
        MATMSG:TO:example@example.com;SUB:Subject;BODY:BodyHere

          And average Joe knows that?

Instead of going to Google and typing QR Code Generator, telling it they want to make an email QR code (or a WiFi QR code), you want them to Google HOW TO make a QR code, then go to your website, which you've said that you took from some third party yourself, and make the QR code.

          • +1

@Chmmr: or I could literally throw it into AI to add a page for email / wifi generation within minutes…

I don't see how this app being free is a deal.

            • -1

@Dyl: OP has already listed why he thinks it's a deal, they've made an app that generates QR codes to connect people to weblinks, WiFi, add contacts, send SMSes etc which they were originally charging for. They are no longer charging for it, hence they are saying it's a deal. No different than a company charging for food and then giving it away.

You on the other hand have made a QR code generator that generates text and are expecting the end user to pull the code out of their backsides to run it.

              And
              1) You stole someone else's code to do it.
              2) You're going to use AI to modify it.
              3) You've leeched of his post to promote yourself. Make your own post.

              • +1

@Chmmr: 1) Open source, not stole
                2) Sure, why not
                3) I haven’t promoted myself, I simply showed an alternative can be made available in literal seconds aka no deal

It’s like saying tap water is a deal, because companies charge for bottled spring water

                • -1

@Dyl: @Dyl: Dot point three is absolutely stupid. Apply that to any other system and you'll see it.

                • -1

@Dyl: What you're saying is why should I get free food from a restaurant when I can make it myself.

                  • @Chmmr: @Chmmr You clearly have zero idea what you're talking about. Also suspiciously aggressive to truely free open source alternatives to this "deal".
