Cheapest Way to Get a New AU Number?

Hey all, just wondering what is the current cheapest way to get a new Australian mobile number?

Besides for the free 7 day Optus trial, anything else like that or only costing a few dollars? Just needs to be able to receive verification codes lol.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of hotels I stay at in the city have spaces where they have brochures for things to check out. I notice a few of them have those $2 sims and the like of various companies alongside the brochure that you can just take. Makes me wonder if that might be a way to get it for free.

To the best of my knowledge, only Telstra (and Boost, I've also read) $2 SIM cards can be activated without adding a plan and paying more money. You'll get a warning that incoming calls and text messages won't be possible after seven days, but that doesn't seem to be enforced. You'll most likely get six months out of it before it gets deactivated, but YMMV.

I use a $10 Amaysim for the purpose you cite. $10 credit lasts 12 mths, but don’t actually use that line for data or calls.

    • This. I use the same
