Haven't seen much talk of the Concord brand on OzB and Swann does not seem to be highly regarded.

Keen to hear members' thoughts.

Swann are the worst cameras you can get.
Better off getting a generic Chinese set at a quarter of the price for better functionality.

Swann is just so buggy on their mobile app.

After getting a Reolink System, I would not go for a Swann or similar (like BNC plus 12v) ever again (or even recommend them).

Reolink 8 Cameras with Cabling and NVR with 4TB HDD, $1,200 to $1,300 off Amazon. Great quality, simple, no extra PSUs and the list goes on.

Better yet, grab a Reolink NVR + 4 cam set for $400-$500 from AliExpress, then decide if you need more or better cams for particular purposes.

      • Yes. But most of the time, those 4 Camera Sets have a 8 POE NVRs that can have 12 channels total, vs a 8 Camera Set with a 16 POE NVR that can have 24 channels.

Depends on how many cameras you need.

        • who needs more than 8 cameras at their house? Business fair enough

As someone who has unfortunately bought swann before. Dont walk…. RUN. Even at 50% off its not worth it.

Cameras are crap and die quickly. Features lacking. They've got a new app for every model meaning youll never get updates. Remote access was always buggy. And they charge an exorbitant amount for subpar product.

Reolink all the way now. Constant updates. All cameras in 1 app. New cameras work on older nvr (although dont have all the features as nvr does support it). App always being updated and improved.

If you cant afford that, go a cheap generic tuya based camera.

    • Hmmm…just been crawling through my parents roof space running cables for their new Swann cameras….and just read this.

Any tips on how to deal with what we got now?

Don't know the model, but it's 6 cameras, 4k, have spotlight/ floodlight option.

      • Haha i installed for my parents as well. Hence my pain trying to fix it all the time.

Are they poe or still using the coax/power cable combo?

If youre up there already and its coax, run some ethernet as well unless you want to go wireless eventually. I prefer cabled as no ability to interfere with wireless signals. That way you could just put terminals on the end and replace with a poe system when the time comes.

My parents nvr died after 18 months so replaced it with a cheap one from ebay. Still running a cheap replacement 8 years later. Had 1 camera die, same again, replace with cheap aftermarket.

Eventually ill bite the bullet and rip out the crappy cabling and replace with ethernet or just suplement with wireless reolinks. Got them a cheap kogan wireless doorbell to replace their ring doorbell they bought unsupervised prior to ring putting up the pay wall to store videos as theres no local storage. I run a reolink poe doorbell now at my house. The reolink cameras i have were bought not long after experiencing swann first hand and its still going. Havent even changed the hdd in the nvr its been that solid.

        • I pulled out my old COD LAN party cabling and ran it through the roof. So yes, all Ethernet cable based. Can run 2 cams (facing opposite direction back to back) per cable (only uses 3 of the 6 wires).

Drug dealers up the street are all packing jammers. I put up my Kogan wifi cams to work out best camera positions…scum bag gets out of car, walks up footpath…static! The jammer works well..but the Kogan still records to SD internally.
The Swann 4k looks pretty good (for now).
In fairness..just having a camera present is 99% of the deterrent. I had cams up (old ..2 pixel jobs). Picture/ delay was so bad wasn't worth wasting power recording. Neighbors got broken into, I never got touched. Was awkward when police asked me for my CCTV recordings for the neighbors though..

P.S. my parents also have said Ring doorbell (facepalm). It actually died on the day I turned up to do the cabling.

Any tips on after market gear compatible with Swann 4k system?

      • Hmmm…just been crawling through my parents roof space running cables for their new Swann cameras….and just read this.

You can still use those cables as feeders, you've done the hard part! Electrical tape the cable to 1 end, and pull the new one through. Assume its the COAX (12v + BNC). If its CAT cable, then you can use that cabling for the Reolink system.

        • +1

Yeah, all cat 6/ RJ45. Noted for when the Swann goes into Ring mode..

RRPs seem inflated for what they are

Anything below 95% off is too little with their inflated prices.

  • I was just looking at some of these and was wondering: (sorry for all the questions, I'm a noob at this)

    1. Does anyone know if the uniden 4k NVR will work with any other onvif/rtsp supporting cameras? There's no info on them online and Uniden support is uselss.
    2. Does anyone know if the Concord (Jaycar told me they are rebadged home brand Swann) cameras that do support onvif and rtsp for 4k ones will work with a reolink nvr or the nvr above?
    3. Does anyone know if my Reolink doorbell will just work with any/any of the above nvrs? or will I need to get the reolink?
    • +1

In my experience NVR should be cross compatible with different cameras as they offer onvif and rstp feeds.
But if you mix brands, you generally don't get the AI or smart detection features.
So it'll record and do basic events, but nothing like human detection.
      Each brand is different though

      • Yeah this is what my research so far is telling me, but I can't find anything specific about the uniden NVR. I can confirm that the cameras that work on it support onvif because other nvr software packages have crowd sourced compatibility lists which say they do, but nothing that goes the other way around. I checked the manual and I can't find any reference to setting up 3rd party cameras. I was planning on picking one up and then testing it out with the 4k Concord cameras that support onvif to setup up a cheap basic system. I don't really care about the AI systems, they are more of a nice to have, and in time if it was important I'd probably replace the single camera where deemed necessary. It seems that all the uniden cameras are rebadged Reolink ones, so there's a high chance they should work, unless they have software locked this stuff just to screw people. I'm guessing that following on from that the NVR is probably also a rebaged Reolink, but there's so little information on them online that it's impossible to know if they can have the Reolink firmware ported onto them or even if that would be required to get other cams to work

Yeah I just double checked and looking at the front of the housing and button layout, it looks identical to an RLN16 from Reolink.

  • Just a heads up for people that the Jaycar rep I spoke to today said that Concord was Swann's home brand, so people complaining about Swann might have the same thing to complain about with Concord. Either way they seem to be phasing out a lot of it if the sale is anything to go by, and honestly most of the users of Swann stuff these days seem to complain a lot less than in the bygone eras from what I can tell.
