Cradle is a New York Times best-selling series following a character's growth as he goes from one of the weakest users of his world's magic to among the strongest.

The series features an original magic system inspired by Chinese cultivation and martial arts novels, with a heavy emphasis on anime-style super-powered battles.

Has been free multiple times in the past so you may already have them.

The First 6 ARE free, but there are 12 books in the series, books 7-12 are not free.
      Avoid the mindless click buys.

      • +1

If you get 6 books in for free and suddenly think that's not a fair deal, just don't read the rest

Oh I think I just realised you were warning people about accidental purchases, I thought you were complaining that it's not a deal for some reason.

On a side note I have 11 of 12 books in the series, I doubt I ever bought any so they must go free at times

      • Luckily it lets you refund accidental click buys instantly (I accidentally did this on book 7).

These books are well regarded. I enjoyed them.
I've been disappointed with another of Will Wight's other series that I tried, but Cradle is good.

    • The traveller's gate trilogy was enjoyable but I noped out of The last horizon quickly.

Added audible narration to all so I could listen on Audible.

For those that don't know you can use the trial of kindle unlimited and only pay for the narration. It works out a lot cheaper than using credits.

      • I’m a Kindle unlimited member But how do you enable narration?

        • On the purchase page their should be the option to add narration, usually it's only a few dollars

I own up to book 9 from previous deals. Just need book 10-12 to go free :)

    • Just buy them, spread the 12 books across the cost of 3 and you're both supporting an author and getting a bargain.

    • Hah yeah I clicked through to grab these and also had 1-9 in my library already. I'd consider buying the reset if I ever get around to reading and enjoying them.

    • 10-11 have been free, so it should happen again sometime I guess

These books are one of my favourite series ever.

It's a genre called progression fantasy which focuses heavily on the magic system and character progression within. Similar to litrpg.

I had it described to me as a popcorn series. Not objectively good quality, just really addictive.

I had my precocious 10yo read them, and he is on his second run through of the series.

The biggest downside about the books are that the audio books are just so good, I would never read them myself.

As other commenters said, will wights other series doesn't have the same brilliance.

    • Is it OK for 10 year olds? Some people have said it's gratuitously violent

      • +1

It's the same level of violence as maybe Avatar The Last Airbender. People do get hurt and die but it's less about descriptions of gore and more about "my magic ability obliterated a guy".

      • +1

It's pretty brutal imo, depends on the 10 year old I guess.

      • There's a bit of violence, a lot of 'battles', but it's nothing crazy. Fantasy element is heavy which for me drops it down a few grades. Maybe compare it with the Hobbit (content not reading level).

No cursing (that I recall), and a kiss several books in is probably as racey as it gets.

Each kid is different though, so obviously read it yourself and make your own call.

    • Yep i just finished it (also as audio books) and the narator is great… and yes it's definitely popcorn series, it may not be a masterpiece but i've definitely a very good read/listened. I've listened to much much worse and these are in the good pile :).

  • +1

The Cradle series is excellent and easy to get into. Reminded me of early James Barclay's Raven series. I really enjoyed the free books so was happy to pay for the last three. You won't regret it.

  • I have to say that Chinese Xianxia and historical dramas and Kdramas (historical and fantasy) have killed me for reading….I am a lifelong (40+ years) fantasy reader (started with SciFi mainly initially), but since I started watching the Cdramas and Kdramas I only read when by the pool on holidays now. These dramas totally bring to life the sorts of worlds I imagined with reading. (just finished Till the end of the Moon in the wee hours this morning, sob)
I have read both the Cradle and Traveler series, luckily before I started watching these shows. I know I should read again (used to read for hours every single night and am stuck halfway through a reread of Malazan book of the fallen series), but I just totally binge watch these series now lol

    • I had a Xianxia/xaunhuan kick for awhile, then a I realised they were all just blurring together and the cliches just were so insanely repetitive, so I went back to western fantasy lol.

From the entire format, I think lotm is the only decent story

      • What is lotm? Wanna try a xianxia

        • LOTM is Lord of the Mysteries and is xuanhuan and is also anime (based on a web novel/series), so it is not my type of show, although in saying that I have read steampunk novels before and some of them are enjoyable. I watch the live action xianxia. Yes, many of the tropes are repeated, but still pretty enjoyable. Compared to Western fantasy China and Korea run rings around them in terms of visuals and stories. I have been watching CDramas and KDramas for approx 6 months solid now. I mainly got onto them through Netflix, now I barely watch Netflix and did a free month of IQIYI (binged as many original content on there as I could) and now 12 month paid for Viki. Try TTEOTM I mentioned above, Love between Fairy and Devil (similar themes to TTEOTM), the , The Untamed, Kill Me Love Me and Who Rules the World, Word of Honor to start. (except for TTEOTM are all on Netflix) If you can get a free trial on IQIYI then try that for A Journey to Love, Love and Strife (this one is short and sweet) and Fangs of Fortune. (I got 1 month free trial through Optus Subhub) Also, Alchemy of Souls is a Korean version of xianxia style, sort of. On Netflix. Not all of these shows are 100% strictly xianxia, but are more fantasy.

Good luck on your xianxia journey. (just be prepared for an insane amount of "blood" being spat out of mouths whenever anyone is injured in any way, shape or form lol….plus keep tissues handy for some of these shows, if you are into sad stories)

  • Good series. Got 11 free and paid for the 12th

    • yes, I got most of them free and paid for the last few

  • FYI once the book is in your library, you can get the audio versions on audible for $4 each. The narrator is quite good.

  • Yep - read all 12. Loved them.
Easy reading and a good classic fantasy read that progresses well.
If you don't love it by half way thru book one, it's not for you.
