Actually, Ecovacs has recently started rolling out region locks, effective for machines purchased after April 15th. I’ve seen a couple of posts on Xiaohongshu, and an authorized reseller has confirmed the same.

if you search more seconds in xiaohongshu, you will know ECO support team can remove the restrictions after a simple phonecall
@Louisbargain: I own an x5 and x8 from china. Only thing that doesnt work is the camera. Just ask the seller to setup an account for you before they ship
X8 also is full english in the app now and voice controls
@Louisbargain: The unlocked ones were locked back in January when Ecovacs started testing region lock. The new ones purchased after April can’t be unlocked.
I have one that I bought after April on sea freight, and I can report here if it gets locked.

yea, it doesn’t have region locked. But to use the app, you must have china mobile number to registered the app
Last year I bought T30 pro from taobao and it works. Just need a +86 number to register. But recently some people said their newer models didn't work. I'm not very sure.
It says that the X5 will require the app that only can be found in their app language and the verification will be sent to chinese number. Can you confirm this wrong?
yes, you must have Chinese mobile number. otherwise it just runs randomly

I wrote this a year ago about the X1 Omni:
"I have this, it was good at first, then I swear it just got dumber. It doesn't matter how many times I remap, it'll find some way to stuff up.
I'll send it to a room to clean and it will go in, start cleaning, then somehow think it's in another room by magically going through walls and start banging in to things and eventually giving up.
I swear it sees me and freaks out, like, "I better make myself look cool in front of the master." and stop going backwards and forwards methodically and start circling around aimlessly.
It'll try to go somewhere and something might be in the way, instead of bumping into it once and going around, it'll just start ramming it over and over!
Today it got itself into a virtual blocked off zone, which it's never done, and started doing doughnuts before telling me it was back at the station. Then when I tried to actually send it to the station, it just did doughnuts and couldn't figure out how to leave the blocked zone! I wanted to throw it like a discus!"
Let me assure you, it's only gotten dumber in the past year. It stops and just rocks back and forth, it disconnects from Wi-Fi and IT CAN'T WORK WITHOUT WIFI. I'll send it to a room to clean and it'll find an object, circle around it several times and think it's fine in the room. It just decides to delete the map. It struggles to enter the dock with the mops detached. I could go on. I've factory reset it several times.
The 2.5 year warranty is ending soon so I'm going to try to make a claim.

This is a common occurrence with Ecovacs. They require wifi to do proper mapping. It's execution is disrupted if it looses connection. Poor form and hopeless when reaching out to CS. Piece of junk.! Avoid the headaches.
How would I find this on rednote?
I don't think bypassing the region lock is not that simple. I tired many methods and finally I am using paid DNS at last. It's Dreame tho.
Any experience if this actually works outside of China?
I know Roborock doesn't.
