o wow didn't know people still bought pens from the 1800s. but then again it is NSW :D

Quality and made in Germany? These are Lamy pens, not Kmart pens. It's not "cheap" per se, but it's worth it if you want a nice pen. In theory, you also produce less waste using refills. Buy nice or buy twice

        Buy nice or buy twice

I just steal pens from work. I don't think I've ever bought a pen in my life.

I mean, it's one pen Lucille, what could it cost? $10?

        • +1

It's Lamy bro. I myself just use Generics for $9 a box, but have several Lamy fountain pens myself for pleasure writing

My experience, you lose both expensive and cheap pens at the same rate but if you have money to burn, these are good

        • Then don't have any pens and you won't lose any :D

I don't tend to lose expensive pens though. Is there a dodgy person hanging around, selling your pens off?

      • The ballpoints are a mediocre but the fountain pens are solid.

the safari tends to be everyones 1st fountain pen, it's the gateway drug. i now use the 2000 with jacques herbin or iroshizuku ink.van dieman makes a fun shimmering ink, but only load that in a broad tip pen.

          • @Hugh G Rection: My first fountain pen was a LAMY AL-star but you are right. They are the go-to beginner pen.

I have a couple of pens (including a LAMY Safari transparent) but my go-to pen is a Majohn Q1 filled with Noodlers Black Waterproof.

    Sorry xiaomi made better pens.

    • yea i remember those 99c deals

    • +1

No they didn't, couldn't even write smoothly without scratching. They tried making the pen balls in house

      • It's the refills that weren't great. Problems with the manufacture of ball bearings.
You can put any other refill in the xiaomi pens and they do look pretty good.

      You're new here, right?

    • this is ozbargain. half the deals here are of this nature where someone made a mistake or an oversight by the merchant that enabled cheaper than usual deals….

    • I think someone is virtue signalling.

If it was a small business I wouldn't be posting, I would likely tell them. They would probably also realise when I went to the register. Vs massive company with huge profits, that have over charged me with printing uni work for years, with casuals working at the checkout not caring.

    • Might just be clearance, red lamy is marked as $9 and yellow is marked $49. Most are sold out now

      Prefers to pay full price

Do you think it's exploitative/immoral to ask to be charged the ticketed price at the grocery store?

      According to ACCC:
"Businesses must communicate clear and accurate prices prior to purchase. They must not mislead consumers about their prices."

"Sometimes the price of an item in store or online at the checkout may not match the displayed or advertised price in store or online. If this happens, even by mistake, the business must either:
      - sell the product for the lowest price - either the checkout price, or displayed or advertised price, or
      - stop selling the item until the incorrect price is corrected."

OP is speculating that it's an error because of how good the price is. It could also just be clearance. They're exercising their right to purchase an item at the advertised price.

    • i think they made over 44 billion last year, a few pens won't make them bankrupt.

    • Gonna say something unpopular. Who says it was a mistake?
It's a clearance. Something that doesn't move that fast.
Get rid of the stock and use the money to buy something that will turn over quickly.

    sorry if its messy

    It definitely is…

  • There’s better ballpoints for cheaper.

But $14 for the fountain pens is good.

  • So…
Is this a deal limited to a single store, or is the idea that there might be similar pricing in other stores, or that other stores will match the price on the receipt?

    • +1

Specific store clearance. My locals had other pens on clearance, including the Lamy ballpoint pens.

  • Lamy all gone
    Still have Parker jotters

  • I've occasionally seen both the Lamy Safari fountain pens and the Pilot Prera fountain pens on mad special (between $9 and $19) at various Officeworks I've traversed around Melbourne, but the prices are never replicated online so I've never bothered posting them here. I suspect it is some kind of random clearance that they are doing…

  • +3

Went to my local officeworks (in QLD) and got a price match when showing the receipt - worth a try for anyone not close to Hunter St store

    • +2

Do you just show the photo of the receipt and say my mate bought the pens down in Syd for cheap? Have never tried a price match on a receipt before lol

      • +1

Yep exactly that. I went to Officeworks Southport and the lady at the register had to call the manager over to price match. They said it was a store clearance from that particular store, however they would override the price for me and honour it

  • Would not price match at kogarah or Trent point store.
They have online pens for $9

    • they are online, but unavailable online.

      • No I am referring to the brand Online :)

  • $9 Parker Pens?! Wow…. Now how much to get Nicky Buckley to present it to me?

  • All sold

  • Lemy Safari can be price matched for $14.28 if missed out on the $9 bonanza.

  • Lamy are a great starter pen, good nibs and you can swap them out easily. Make sure you get a converter for bottled ink. Prepare to spend a lot of money on pens once it takes hold.
