Löwenstein Prisma20A Automatic CPAP Bundle (Incl. PrismaAQUA Humidifier, Heated Hose + Mask) $1,899 Delivered @ CPAP Online

90
MAYMADNESS100

been looking for a Löwenstein Prisma20A, thought this is the best deal?

The 4G modem version is $200 more expensive (which enables you to Prisma Cloud), but if you buy the 4G modem alone, it will cost $500.

I personally don't see the point of Prisma Cloud though…

Any thoughts?

      False on so many levels

Cos your single anecdote trumps the vast amount of research and worldwide medical consensus. Trust me bro! Lol. I think your diet has affected your ability to use even a slight amount of common sense. But feel free to post up your evidence.

        • +1

There is one way it would work, and that is if you had weight loss from your diet. We do know weight loss helps manage sleep apnoea for many people.

But in that case, any method of weight loss would work, and other forms would probably be healthier than a meat only diet.

          • @ozbking: And CPAP helps weight loss by treating sleep apnea, therefore improving sleep quality. Better sleep quality, less lean muscle loss. Better sleep, more energy to exercise.

    • +5

Weight loss doesn't fix every case of sleep apnoea. Obviously it's better to lose weight than not but it might not cure sleep apnoea. Besides, the use of CPAP can reduce weight in those with sleep apnoea as it allows them to get proper sleep.

      • There's a correlation with sleep apnoea and being overweight. Correlation =/= causation. You can be a healthy weight and still have sleep aponea. Not that carnivore diet is a healthy way to lose weight either.

    • +1

You might find this hard to believe, but I am actually what people call "slim". I have large and heavy skeleton (very dense, so dense that I cannot stay float on water.). I am 180cm tall with only 72kg ish, I am the textbook definition of "healthy weight". Yet, I have sleep apnoea. So diet definitely isn't going to help.

    • It definitely fixed it for me too and I wasn't even overweight to start with. But I've learnt that you don't actually need to be that strict - just cut out gluten, dairy, preservatives and refined carbs.

But as you can see so many undisciplined wall-e people here.

Go for Resmed instead - Australian born success story and you can also get deals for the latest Airsense 11 with mask for less than this (better products too).

Using the same code MAYMADNESS200, the Airsense 11 with a free mask comes down to $1249

Also the Resmed masks are better imho. Masks like the p30i (my personal go to) where the tube attaches to the top of the head are more comfortable. It stops the tube's weight from pulling on your face. It also makes it easier to roll around in your sleep.

The Löwenstein masks mount from the front of your face which I find significantly less comfortable.

      • +4

You can have different brand masks to the machine.

    • +3

That's a fixed pressure machine, this is an auto machine. The comparable ResMed machine is the ResMed Airsense 11 AutoSet, not the Elite, which is quite a bit dearer (but still cheaper than this deal) at $1690.

"Better products" according to who? From what I've seen the Lowenstein's are very highly regarded. (Not done a lot of investigating I'll admit)

    • +1

On a CPAP group I've seen people recommending the Lowenstein over Resmed. That said if you want a Resmed just get the Airsense 10 Autoset, solid machine and I can take why you'd pay more for the 11 unless you wanted a slightly more compact machine.

    • +2

Nah, I have an Airsense 11 and I wished I'd gone with the Lowenstein, which is what I rented in my CPAP trial. It worked a lot better. The Airsense has been very average.

      • +1

Ha ha. What an absolute gronk! Just shows, you can be smart at a bunch of stuff, business, sleep etc but still be a complete nutcase if you don't use critical thinking skills in other areas.

    • Apart from other people mentioning the one you posted is not an automatic machine, I also wish to add that I personally tried both the Airsense 11 AUTO SET and Löwenstein Prisma20A during my CPAP trail without knowing the price of each one. My wife and I definitely believe Löwenstein is way better, its far quitter and the air delivery algorithm is noticeably better. I believe it justify the 10% price difference.

Whenever the wind whistles through the leaves, I'll think Lowenstein…. Lowenstein

        Lowenstein…

    • +12

      Seriously?

Do you reject other treatments for common medical problems? Are you going to neck yourself if you need glasses to read as well?

        • +2

You don't know what you're talking about sir

          • -8

@pauli3will: My brother had sleep apnoea for 3 years changed his diet and gone no more.

            • +1

@Jklaro: So one minute it helped you and now it was your brother?? Lol. Real cool story, bro.

              • -5

@Fredorishi: Thats ok keep using overpriced medical devices till you die because changing for a healthy diet is too hard.
I actually have crohns but i also snored teeth skin issues shoulder pain white tounge. After 3 months not eating processed food all that is fixed. But thats fine everyone keep eating those seed oil potatoe chips the biscuits the icecream and put on ur mask before bed. Or try fix ur diet for just one month and see.

                • @Jklaro: oh so n=2 then. sweet! QED! All apnea is always caused by a poor diet and going carnivore will cure everyone. Alhamdulillah

            • +5

@Jklaro: Yes losing weight can reduce or stop sleep apnea.

That doesn't come close to meaning your diet is causing it or changing your diet will stop it.

There are also many other issues which cause or contribute to sleep apnea besides weight or diet.

          • @pauli3will: That's honestly all it is mate. You've been fed lies.

    • +3

If you need this to sleep and don't use it, the heart attack will probably take care of you. No gun required.

      • -7

If you need this almost guaranteed you eat processed foods high carbs sugars and seed oils. You dont need this you need a proper diet.

        • How many people need to tell you you're speaking rubbish before you stop posting nonsense?

          • -5

@Fredorishi: Because i hate medical advice to bandaid the issue rather then root cause. when people can fix this by stop eating rubbish.

            • +1

@Jklaro: Yawn. You're obviously not qualified and obviously have no idea. Please just stop.

            • @Jklaro: Fact is you will need bandaid to stop bleeding before you address the root cause. Getting healthy and losing weight is a holistic process that does not rely on only one thing. Getting good diets, exercise and getting good sleeping go hand in hand. Only stressing one of these elements and belittling other efforts is moronic.

              • @becku: Sure you need it to get better but one should not rely on it forever. I been on meds for crohns 17 years now i have adopted a carnivore like diet and i will be getting off my meds.

And the thing is my mum needs a machine yet doesnt use it been going on for years. Only need one month diet to really feel the benifit. But it is extreme and need to be mentally stong to choose to not eat garbage.

        • +1

Sir, this is Australia. Please keep your logic elsewhere. The chronically ill wish to tell you you are wrong.

  • +2

I would suggest joining "Sleep HQ" if you haven't already. Often have good deals on all things CPAP as well as tons of good information. The Lowenstein's seem very highly regarded although I haven't read too much about them personally. Sometimes you can get cpap gear wayyyyyy cheaper overseas if you can get around the shipping restrictions which isn't that hard. If you are new to treatment, probs not a bad idea to buy local for local support though. https://www.sleephq.com/

    • +1

Yeah I 2nd joining sleep hq I've found them very helpful.

  • +1

Lowenstein is to Resmed what Mercedes is to Skoda.

    • +1

So overpriced and unreliable once the warranty runs out?

  • Weight loss is a holistic approach, it requires good diets, good exercise and good sleep. CPAP therapy helps with getting good sleep without getting affect by sleep apnea. Go for it if you need it, and get good diets and exercise at the same time, don't listen to someone telling you to only do one magical thing.

I had a Resmed AirSense 10, good machine, worked. Was up for a new one from PHI, had a look at the AirSense 11 and thw Lowenstein Prisma20A, went with the Lowenstein, reviews say pump is much better, and reviews for the Resmed machine weren't great, especially didn't like that it had the same pump as the AirMini.

I love my Prisma20A, but few notes, it is bigger, like a lot. Chunky boi. I took my Airsense 10 on a international flight and powered from a powerbank, I couldn't (comfortably) do that with the Prisma20A. But no regrets getting the Lowenstein.

    • Out of curiousity, what powerbank did you use?

I bought one of the super expensive ones that are designed for the Airsense 10, failed on me during its first use (on a longhaul flight, it sucked). I keep looking into how to use a regular powerbank but I can never seem to find something that works easily with the Airsense 10.

      • +2

A powerbank on it's own wont power the Resmed, because it doesn't just use the 24v power, it also has a 3.3v sense signal, which is assumed it measures what wattage charger is plugged in. So I used one of my 100w powerbanks, but I built my own device for making it work, off instructions I found online.

First one of these to output 20v PD from your power banks, https://core-electronics.com.au/usb-type-c-31-pd-to-55mm-bar…
Then into a 5.5x2.1mm barrel jack connector, surface mount for putting it into an enclosure. Find something at Jaycar, or https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164789674586
Then into this, https://core-electronics.com.au/pololu-24v-step-up-voltage-r… , which will get you to 24v that the Airsense 10 uses.
Then this, https://www.digikey.com.au/en/products/detail/microchip-tech… , to drop from 24v to 3.3v for the sense
A 2.7k ohm, 1/4 watt, 5% resistor, to tell the machine you have a "90w" power supply.
And lastly a power cord, the Airsense 10 uses the same cord as an old HP laptop charger, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265602955777 , break it open and unsolder the cord from the pcb and done.

Simple circuit. Power in via the cable, into the step up voltage regulator for 24v out. Positive and negative go straight to the cord, but also to the MCP1804T-3302I-DB V-in, and the 3.3v that comes out of it goes through the resister, and into the third core of your power cable, which will give you the 3.3v sense telling the machine you are using a 90w PSU. Which a 100w powerbank will do fine, even accounting for loss in the circuit. Which is extremely minimal with the Step up regulator I linked.

Or if you don't know, or want to, make it yourself, this is it done for you, https://www.remsleep.com.au/product/usb-c-cable-for-airsense… , I just prefer to know the quality of products powering my expensive devices.

        • Sweet, thanks for all the info. Not sure I trust the soldering skills I learned in highschool but it gives me a start!

Definitely better than last time, overnight flight where the battery crapped out 10 minutes in and the flight crew came and made me unplug my machine from the powerpoint on the plane after 15 minutes of flight. Not sleeping for over 36 hours wasn't awesome.

          • @[Deactivated]: I believe they don't allow 'medical devices' on the in-flight power supply because they can't guarantee the continuous supply.

So my Airsense 10, I took off the heated hose, removed the humidifier, and used a Humidifier X insert, and my standard 20000mAh powerbank last more than one night. Take 2 powerbanks just in case.

I have had this machine for 4 weeks, been a Resmed person before that. These machines are BRILLIANT - the fant is bigger and better, the unit is quite, auto on/off many many features, but the key is that this machine is top in the class.

if you can afford it get it… if you get a Resmed cheaper and price is an issue, it would be fine, but this machine is in a class above the resmed, NO Disapointment by me. Oh i wouldnt travel with it. bigger unit, but a home unit for sure

  • I have the resmed airmini for travel and I hate it quite a lot. It is very noisy.
