Targeted as not everyone received 15% off code

  • How do people compare / measure performance?
I ask as I'm on note10+ which is an old phone but has 12G ram - does it perform better than the s24(which I doubt)?

  • Bought 1 :)

    • A16?

  • -2

At $600 and with 8GB, probably wait for the next S25 plan deal from JB and the Good Guys due to a big step up in GPU - perhaps more marginal in gaming due to RDNA2 in the Exynos S24 phones - and CPU performance with a slightly better screen. Additionally, 8GB RAM on a phone may run into issues for local AI models.

    • +1, no way i will be buying a 8gb flagship. 12gb is new minimum i guess

      • Mmm, and just quickly looking over, camera results are way better on the S25. Oh and I totally forgot about modem performance on Exynos: it's crap and chews battery, but OneUI 7 has helped with overall efficiency.

    • It's a one year old flagship at less than half price. It's a very cheap price for those who need a phone now.

      • -2

        'Probably wait.'

    • Has anyone used this?
I don't care for AI on my phone so can I turn it off so it doesn't chew up battery and hog RAM?

      • -1

Even setting aside LLMs being used for writing text, or using things image generation models, it helps with everything from battery life, to image searching, to quick translations, to scheduling your day. It will also help with image and video compression.

Turning it off will not improve your battery life or your RAM usage at this stage, and may not help even when it's more deeply integrated into the OS.

        • So why does everyone say AI is ram intensive. Someone in this thread even said 8gb will be insufficient for AI.

But 8gb is more than enough in my current phone.
I don't need AI to manage my day, I'm capable of managing myself.

I simply don't need AI help on my phone, and all the times that I tried Gemini, it always failed spectacularly. It's not where it needs to be at this time.
I disable all my apps from running in the background, hence I get 2 days of battery life. AI constantly active, waiting for my comment will certainly be using recourses to stay active.

          • @YellingIntoTheVoid: You're misunderstanding my comments: it can be more intensive if you are running an app which is deploying its own model. For OS level stuff, it's not a big issue currently, and you're going to benefit from the extra RAM in other ways.

Over time, you will be left behind in terms of functionality that will likely prove very useful for day to day operation of the phone, and the stuff that is loadable via the OS may chew up more RAM, but will save you time in your day, and arguably usage/battery life for the functions you're seeking on the phone (making image searches faster, organising your day faster, translating text faster).

Does that make more sense about the trade-off? Currently the only OneUI AI features the 8GB phones fail to support are natural language searching for your files and the audio eraser function.

  • a 4G phone…..

    • is this A16 5G or 4G…? there's 2 versions….

      • of course it is the 4G version. 197*0.85= $167.45

  • god dam it, just bought the 24 FE 128gb for $600 from last deal - and arrived this morning.

    • Return if you haven't open it.

    • Same but I bought the 256. Arriving today or going to the LPO. Samsung tell me to reject the delivery and it'll return to them. I guess I can tell the PO to return to sender… Otherwise they will send a return satchel, not sure if it will cost anything though…

  • My 15% code is not working. Is this phone definitely eleigible?

    • maybe they removed phones from eligibility…

    • Still working.

  • I'm confused, is the GSMarena entry for this phone wrong saying it has a 256GB/8GB AND a 256GB/12GB version? Or is one the US model and we can't get the 12GB model?

Otherwise this is a very very slight upgrade from my S23, about the only positive is the extra few years of Android support.

i say wait for s25, as 6 years updates with 8gb ram is not a great start

    • S24 with Snapdragon to S24 with Exynos is probably a slight downgrade if anything.

      • Gah, S23 with Snapdragon

I have left my code on the megathread of anyone is looking for a code to use.

  • Damn. I bought a A16 for 197 recently… haha

  • I'm looking for a Samsung phone desperately for a family member that has broken theirs. Do you think I should get the s24 or the s24 fe? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/906018. I can wait a few more weeks but not much because it's the camera that broke and they take a lot of photos. Thanks. I could get something from another brand but I haven't found something that really fits all the needs. I use a pixel 8 pro and the software is buggy af so I don't want to give them a pixel lol. Also idk about Chinese phones

    • s24.

      • Thanks. Any reason why?

        • FE model is always inferior to the flagship series

          • @jedimaster: That's true but fe has a bigger battery.

            • @HaydosK: And bigger display. The expert comparisons show the FE is slightly inferior in battery life with the exception of call time where it's slightly better.

  • How do I get a code for this? Just sign up for mailing? I haven't received one

  • Any code

  • I don't have code, any one can share one? MANY thanks!
