Getting a bit old so have low expectations - but might be good for a specific use eg. onboard storage for music, NFC, specific WearOS app. Best to avoid water from previous comments. Was $250 originally.

      Ok daddy.

  • Just FYI the @ Mobvoi via Amazon AU is shipped via Mobvoi.

Can't complain about the price. Wondering whether to get one for the missus, mainly for the Google Pay. Expecting I'd end up getting never ending complaints about having to recharge so often though (compared to current one that gets up to 2 weeks between charges)

    • Does your wife not carry her phone everywhere to use Google Pay?

      • +1

Sure. Dunno, she was just asking about paying with watch.

Guess depends if the running activity/gps tracking part is any good as to whether getting another watch, as she does go running without phone.

Gone up to $60 now, guess I'll take that as a sign :)

Its a steal for this price, better than fossil i guess

It’s cheaper than a watch battery replacement from Apple.

  • There are a lot of one star reviews.

    • mobvoi screwed their customers. badly. repeatedly.

My review: Shitbox, but kinda does the job for a run here and there.

  • +1

    wow they're still going?

  • Good price if the one you got for free died. Does the job, shit battery though.

  • Worth mentioning it is LCD, not OLED like most smart watches.

Time for a ramble review. TL;DR it's fine as long as you're not expecting anything flashy, fast or fun.

Never really "got" smartwatches but I picked one up from this deal.

For the price, it's not bad I suppose. It's pretty chunky and clearly not a premium product. Update process was a bit fiddly as I had to jump through a couple of apps as it went through WearOS versions, and there's a known issue with the watch getting stuck at a garbled bootloader screen during the update (can be fixed with a few button presses).

I'm not a heavy user- no AOD, power saving watch face turned on, and not really interacting with it much. I do have the sleep tracking and monitoring stuff active. For ease I'd probably charge it every day but I can just about get through two with otherwise light usage.

You can install a bunch of other OEM watch faces from e.g. Fossil, Skagen, Michael Kors. I grabbed this watch face when it was free a few weeks back I think and it's the right mix of information density and design for me (though note the display is an LCD not an OLED so the black levels aren't particularly deep or inky): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amoledwatc…

I'll be honest, I still don't quite "get" the fascination. I guess it's nice to be able to check/dismiss/quick-respond the occasional notification, set an alarm/timer, check my calendar/the weather, and of course check the time without pulling out my phone, and this is fine for those purposes.

No idea how good/accurate the fitness tracking stuff is. It occasionally automatically started tracking runs when I was sitting at my desk. I think I turned that feature off shortly after.

Overall I'd say I'm fairly neutral with it for the $70 I paid. It does what it says it'll do with no particular flair or pizzazz. I don't have anything glowing to report, but no real concept of what would be a deal-breaker at this price either. One of the refurbed Galaxy Watches in a recent deal might have been better? But some of them were also twice or more the price of this deal.

Oh and silicone straps suck. Terrible. I swapped it to a different band I had on hand straight away. Plus points for the stock band having quick disconnect fittings and being a standard size.

    Ramble over.

    • 100% agree with everything here (I also bought recently from a similar deal), including the general 'meh' sentiment towards smartwatches.

      Just two things to add:

      1. I used it on my bike rides to track heart rate but I found it annoying wearing a watch on my wrist - much rather a chest strap. This added to my 'meh' sentiment.

      2. One of the main reasons I was interested was for the NFC to pay for public transport in Victoria. Turns out the MYKI card can't be added - there are only a few transport cards available to add and they are all for American cities.

So I only use the watch occasionally for sleep tracking now, but even then, sometimes I'm too tired/sleepy and just use my phone instead of strapping on the watch…

Another device that needs to be charged almost daily and with a proprietary cable too… Quite annoying.

      • Annoyance with the proprietary cable is a good shout, and I don't think it has any wireless charging support either.

The whole device feels a bit like the epitome of "eventual e-waste, sooner rather than later" to me, though perhaps that's a bit overly negative/cynical on my part. At least it was cheap!

      • So the watch pay thingy is not google wallet/pay? Asking as google pay does work with myki.
