Wi-Fi 5 (2.4GHz & 5GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2 via USB 2.0. Rather old and outdated at this point but still ok if you have a cheap refurb SFF PC that doesn't come with bluetooth/wifi.

Far better to upgrade or install a new card inside the system. Suggest going with Intel chipsets as there have been more problems with others.

    • Depends if you have an available m2 slot of the correct key.

That and you'll need to make sure you don't purchase a cnvio variant if you have a too old Intel or are running AMD.

Still would be a much better experience than this 1x1 USB dongle though.

if you still wanted wifi 6 and bluetooth 5.3, this is the upgrade of OP's post i think. $28, but ATL according to CCC

found one for $19. wifi 6 and bluetooth 5.3 too

      https://www.pccasegear.com/products/66120/simplecom-nw831-ax…

      • for the majority, this deal is not viable as these guys add at least $15 postage for small items.

Only good if you live close by and do pickup

    • No discount at all though

Grab is from Ali for halve this price, very outdated tech too

  • I have one like this, but it's so annoying because it drops out constantly and then can't reconnect. Bloody pain in the ass!!!!

    • I have this exact 1, and it does not drop out for me - my modem is 1m away.

      • i am talking about Bluetooth

        • I may have had this issue or a similar one. It's all about Bluetooth versions on the devices you have and the device your connecting it too. Windows can be a pass in the a$$ with Bluetooth connections - not only drivers but also on boot up.

          • @cobknob: thanks for the reply….I want to have a stable connection. Recently my Bluetooth headphones have been disconnecting randomly, then suddenly reconnecting, and then loosing connection entirely. Must be bloody windows reconfiguring some shit on it's own. Faaaaak me dead!!!!!!

If you're gonna get a USB wifi dongle, at least get one with an antenna… I've always had bad experiences with USB wifi dongles that are this size/regular USB size without external antennae

More like - this for example

Kudos for using the correct plural form of "antenna "

      • +6

correct plural form of "antenna "

The correct word is "antennas". Antennae is used for insects:

        https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/antenna

        1. (countable noun) [usually plural]
The antennae of something such as an insect or crustacean are the two long, thin parts attached to its head that it uses to feel things with.

        2. (countable noun) An antenna is a device that sends and receives television or radio signals.

language note: antennae is the usual plural form for meaning [sense 1] and antennas is the usual plural form for meaning [sense 2].

        • It's funny because I was thinking about it… And was like.. Is this the wrong context for antennae? But I figured someone would correct me if it was wrong… And you did!

          Hehe. My b

    • Yeah I will never go back after getting one with an antenna. So much more reliable and better distance.

  • I use WIFI mesh with Ethernet port to connect my PC without WIFI. It provides both WIFI coverage and wire connection. If you already have it or plan to deploy it gives you another option.

    • what';s that?

so an access point and then ethernet to pc from the acesss point?

For a desktop machine, you can pick up a significantly better unit from Ali for $17 shipped - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006439886497.html
Or https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005061612054.html If you need Bluetooth, etc etc

These are tough going on a mobile device though !

Is this a deal? You may as well buy an AC1300 one with external antenna for $13:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CS6WK6YL

    • Ooo good find, they're probably the same thing right? As the TP Link one I Linked above given TP link is the parent company anyway

    • Hahaha. I just bought that from looking at this deal. Got a USB extender as well for the same price as this deal because my PC is in a cabinet. I know it doesnt have Bluetooth but I already have a dongle.

      • Oh, right, I hadn't noticed that the TP-Link one has BT.

    • -1

I'm looking at this for 20 bucks and thinking it's not a deal.

  • Would this adapter be okay for connecting AirPods to a PC? One of the photos shows what looks like AirPods, but nowadays you can never be too sure.

    • +1

Should be. AirPods are just Bluetooth earphones. I recommend getting an adaptor with an antenna though.

  • Is this good for a laptop that only has 2.4Ghz wireless? Considering using this to extend the life of my old Windows laptop which might not run Windows 11 will stick it with Windows 10

  • +1

I prefer the ones with an antenna sticking out if you are using it for a desktop, only get this if you are using on a laptop, much more stable and better connection with an antenna
