The fan is apparently quiet but some people have put something quieter in. There is a company in the UK who make an adaptor for a generic fan: https://gpuconnect.com/products/unifi-dream-wall-ubiquiti-fa…
Unifi Dream Machine SE (UDM SE)
All-in-one: router, 8-port PoE switch, controller, optional HDD for video recording.
Compact desktop or rack-mountable unit (1U).
8 x PoE+ Ethernet ports + 1 x 10G SFP+ uplink.
Dual WAN support for failover/load balancing.
No built-in WiFi – requires separate UniFi APs.
Great for larger homes with wired networking and multiple access points.
Easier to upgrade WiFi coverage with additional APs.
Unifi Dream Wall (UDW)
All-in-one: router, PoE switch, controller, built-in WiFi 6 AP, optional battery backup.
Wall-mounted design – clean and aesthetic.
Integrated WiFi 6 reduces the need for extra APs.
PoE+ ports and 10G SFP+ uplink.
Optional battery backup keeps it running during power outages.
Best for minimalist setups or where space is limited.
Fixed wall location may limit placement flexibility.
Which One for a House?
UDM SE: Better for wired-heavy setups or homes wanting custom AP placement.
UDW: Great for WiFi-centric homes with limited space and desire for sleek wall-mounted design.
I run a UDM SE and have done a number of installs using them. They are a great machine, but it all depends on your use case.
I run a UDM SE with 6 APs with some PtP links and 5 Mini Flex switches. I also have Failover in use.
Also don’t forget the udm wall only has micro SD card for storage compared to the 3.5” of the SE
BTW There is no battery backup for the dream wall, its an optional redundant power supply, so no UPS or battery.
Yes, thats right, it is optional. I didn't say it was included.
@geekcohen: Sorry, I don't think you understand what I was getting at, the optional option is a "Power Supply", there is no optional "Battery".
Besides the large footprint, the only other thing is would this be a lot louder than the DM SE?
Fan is very quiet. The fan in my Reolink NVR is probably louder.
I've done a few in little server racks and they are very quiet. Had them in offices with no complaints.
I purchased a UDM SE because:
- Large house so need to put a WiFi AP in an optimal place.
- I had 24+ Ethernet ports going to devices (had to also purchase a switch).
- Unifi Protect cameras that need hard drive storage.
- Lockable network cabinet so bad guys can't easily disable my surveillance.
I would get a Dream Wall if:
- I lived in a smaller home/apartment.
- Didn't need camera surveillance.
- If it was around the same price as the UDM SE!
That's a pretty cool form factor. Pricey though
comes with a 512gb card. has tons of ports inc POE which is a bargain. 10gb spf so you can run a 10gb network with a new router if you wanted to.
These things are weird.
The best part of the Unifi eco system is that everything is separate.
When you want to upgrade your Wifi, you just upgrade the Wifi.
When you want to upgrade your Router, you just upgrade your Router.
When you need a better switch, you just add a better switch.
And all the above just seamlessly slot in to your existing setup, replacing the old ones.
This thing ? You can't upgrade anything - when you outgrow the various parts, you can't do anything.
Looks cool though
Great unit - sold and installed one at a client and couldn't be happier. Small business no networking racks can highly recommend.

Just because there isn't a network rack, doesn't mean you cannot put one in.
I generally do a UDM Pro or SE in a 8RU Rack (generally $150) and add a UPS into it. Fits perfectly in the corner somewhere or under a desk.
Racks are 600mm minimum deep mate - this thing is a lot thinner and has a wireless access point built in + 16 ethernet ports including some POE+
I get where you're coming from but for small business admin office hanging one of these on a wall without it sticking out is a no-brainer.
I've done plenty of full 22U installs also don't get me wrong but this is a great little all-in-one unit instead of the Controller + Switch + Access point option.

Wrong. I most of the time use 450mm deep which fits the Dream Machine no problem.
I run a 6RU 450mm deep rack in my cupboard and it fits perfectly. I have my networking stuff and some power rails in it, UPS is then next to it. For my Sheds, I have a shelf for the networking stuff and then the UPS fits in the bottom.

Don't need to be on the wall. I've done a few under a desk in the corner Whilst on the wall is sometime handy, doesn't always have to be that way.
I was looking at Unifi Dream Machine SE - Router
How do the 2 products compare? I’m sure this is overkill but the SE hasn’t been on sale for a while, so they are comparable in price.
Besides the large footprint, the only other thing is would this be a lot louder than the DM SE? It’s just for a house in a pantry so I don’t want to go overkill and suffer excessive background
